I agree Degale has had an above average career, but it has also largely wasted. The Traux saga was one thing, he is shot to pieces now, and dropping a world title to fight an untelevsied 8 rounder......many other boxers would have been slaughtered for that.

In regards to him vs Eubank Jnr being labelled a "superfight", I could not think of a less fitting description. As a huge fanboy for big domestic fights, this doesn't excite me one bit, and will thankfully be the nail in the coffin of Chris Eubank's disastrous career.

It seems like DeGale has been very badly advised. Why rematch Truax and then give the belt up? And then fighting off TV doing 8 rounders? It's crazy.

He had to reclaim the IBF because he shouldn’t have lost it in the first place. On top of that, he’s a 2-time world champion.

He knows his time is nearly up. Why fight his mandatory challenger for less than £1m which is what he’ll get when he can instead fight a potential PPV with a British fighter and be paid millions. His time is up. He knows it. He wants to pursue a big fight. If he wins the big fight, he gets ANOTHER big fight. If he loses. GAME

Waiting for last payday - PPV against Groves/Smith or Eubank.

He wasn’t going to risk a war with Uzcategui for £300k and risk losing chance of £1m plus possibly.

Supposedly this was a warm up fight, and there's a big fight coming in the not-so-distant future. I say supposedly, because at this stage that's just speculation online I've seen, no proper sources.

If he does get a massive fight after relinquishing his belt, fair enough. If not, then I think we can all agree it was rather pointless to drop the belt. It's not like he's a huge draw, is it?

I think Eubank Jr. is the most likely fight. I can see DeGale's team will see Eubank as an easily beatable opponent, with name value enough to the mainstream British fight fans. Whether it is an easy win is another matter, as DeGale is a bit shot nowadays. However, Eubank Jr. isn't much shakes either.

Then again, what with George Grove's recent loss, who says the rematch isn't finally on the cards.

As said above, I think DeGale is more interested in cashing out now, then taking big risks.

I like DeGale but he won the Truax rematch back in April, he could quite easily have fought Uzcategui around September time and then Eubank in a couple of months. And there's really no reason that the Eubank fight HAS to be this December. If he needed more time he could easily have fought Uzcategui last weekend and put the Eubank fight off until early next year. Not like Jr has anything better to do.

I know he did mate, that's what I said. I'm saying he won it in April so should have been able to defend it before fighting Eubank. It's not like he had to make a choice between Uzcategui and Eubank, there was nothing stopping him doing one after the other. Other than, as you say, getting beat by Uzcategui which I agree probably would have happened at this stage.
