This tournament was an open tournament. All the best super middleweights got an invite. The better the fighters, the better the tournament. Some decided not to enter. Zurdo in particular, if he thinks he’s the best 168’er out there, he should be entering the tournament and winning.tobyh5 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 14:25 I hate to break up the party Stu and return to the thread but I was just on insta looking at pics of Smith with the Ring belt and I just had this feeling that it was a bloody cheap way to get a Ring belt. I do not consider him quite there yet and dont think the belt should have been on the line.
Why punish the "rest of them" because they decided to not enter a tournament run by a commercial company who just because they call it "world series" does not actually make it that. It is not like an amateur world championship or olympic games. and part of the system and structure. it is a made up name by a bunch of guys trying to make themselves a few million quid.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 14:34
Why punish Smith, Groves and the rest of them if the likes of Zurdo, DeGale and the other world champion(s) don’t want
It depends who is in the tournament. The Ring for example have gone more strict with their vacant belts. Before it was if anyone of the 2 top 5 ranked fought each other, the belt could be at stake. They made an exception here. I think Smith was #4 and Groves was #1.. i don’t see an issue with that.tobyh5 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 14:43Why punish the "rest of them" because they decided to not enter a tournament run by a commercial company who just because they call it "world series" does not actually make it that. If they made it at Heavyweight and AJ and Wilder told them to fck off, do you think the winner should leapfrog them to claim the Ring belt?
Be nice if you actually replied to the point I was making, which was a reply to your logic that Smith should not be punished because others did not enter a made up, not official, commercial tournamentRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 14:55It depends who is in the tournament. Has Zurdo fought, never mind beat a top 5 ranked SMW apart from Abraham.
I have nothing against Zurdo. He’s a top boxer.
A tournament where other top fighters will enter and you can prove yourself. I guess it worked better for Usyk because the best CW’s entered.tobyh5 wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 15:10Be nice if you actually replied to the point I was making, which was a reply to your logic that Smith should not be punished because others did not enter a made up, not official, commercial tournamentRuthless-RKO wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 14:55It depends who is in the tournament. Yeh, I’m aware of Arum’s tactics..jamamb wrote: ↑29 Sep 2018, 15:11 zurdo didnt enter because top rank doesnt let there guys into the wbss because top rank wants full control and in house fights. same reason saucedo and ramirez arnt in at 140
now that uzcategui seems top rank affiliated i dont have my hopes up for callum vs zurdo or uzcategui. the other belt holder is david benavidez, but as a 21 year old i feel like he may be taken more slowly
Not tonight mate! I've got my two oldest kids who are wide awake and I'm waiting on match of the day coming on
