Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2018
Props to Garcia. He's daring to be great but I think this is just a calculated risk. If he loses, he loses to arguably the best welter atm and of course to a much bigger man. M.G should make good money from this fight and after this fight he has the big fight with Loma(if he'd be able to make 135 again). The big question is how M.G will look against E.S?
Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 2018?
Crawford has a 30% chance vs Spence. Mikey has 0%.jamamb wrote: ↑08 Nov 2018, 06:29 mikey is good, but hes not some masterful boxer. hes not particularly fast either. he got bullied late to the body by broner and i thought lost 4 rounds to lipinits. imo 140 was already pushing it a bit.
i think 30 percent to beat spence is very generous, personally i think best case is maybe mikey takes some early rounds if spence doesnt really do much early, but cant see mikey winning. just too physically overwhelmed, and spence is hardly some totally unskilled fighter whose useless aside from being strong
Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2018
It's interesting how many different takes we have on this fight. Some make sense, some spot on, some barely good for a laugh. The reasons Mikey chose this fight are simple. 1. He needs the biggest challenge possible at this late career stage because that motivation is paramount to his success. 2. He wants that 5th division title, maybe beating that club fighter for a 140lb title created some overconfidence it sure appears that way. 3. He has a built in excuse when he loses, daring to be great and reaching too far, the size gap was just too much. 4. The push and hype this fight will get is going to create much more revenue than either guy is used to. It also doesn't hurt that even in Spence's backyard Mikey will have a large contingent of fans supporting him. I'll be there, but much like those kids in Stand by Me, I just want to see the body. To be fair, I think I know at least one of the things Garcia might see that he likes. And a reason Spence and his team didn't jump on the Cotto opportunity. The left hook, I think Spence has a harder time seeing or defending that shot than any other. Maybe that sliding style can be timed and that shot make a difference. But it won't be on March 16 or thrown by Mikey Garcia. Mikey's ring IQ is top notch, yet it hasn't had to work under duress much. It's gonna take a helluva lot more than a great 1-2 to overcome the significant damage coming. TBH I think Mikey might win a round at most, maybe the first. He's getting stopped no later than 7. It's boxing, anything can happen I could be wrong, but the only thing I fully expect is Spence will get little to no credit and every second or moment he struggles will be magnified.

lol some of the stuff ive read on various forums about mikey being some mystic who magically sees these easily explotable flaws no one else can really elaborate on is funny

Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2018
Mikey Garcia probably realises the amount of kudos and massive paydays that Kell Brook and Amir Khan received when they “dared to be great” whilst competing well outside their natural habitats when they both faced much bigger men that were considered genuine top-ten pound-for-pound talent.
By the time he steps foot inside the ring against Errol Spence Jr., Mikey Garcia will be 31 years of age, which means that (in the context of being a lightweight), he should be regarded as a veteran.
Garcia is unbeaten, has emerged victorious in all seven world title fights, a four-weight world champion, a former Ring Magazine champion and a universally regarded top-ten pound-for-pounder, which means he has every right to be confident and have belief in his own ability to defy the betting odds to defeat Errol Spence Jr.
It’s highly-unlikely that Mikey’s career will suffer any adverse effects from incurring an expected loss to a much bigger man that is also regarded as fellow pound-for-pounder.
Let’s face it, it’s a “win-win” situation for Mikey Garcia, because he’s going to receive a career-best payday, gain a lot of exposure from competing in a PPV event in what will inevitably be one of 2019’s biggest bouts and he’ll also receive a hell of a lot of praise and respect from both his fellow pros and fight fans in general for having the sheer audacity (or bravery) for “daring to be great” whilst competing well outside his natural habitat.
And let’s not pretend that upsets don’t happen in the sport of boxing, because if Mikey Garcia somehow manages to land a “lottery winning” punch that shocks us all and stops Errol Spence Jr, even though it’s admittedly unlikely, he’ll automatically be considered a future dead-cert first-ballot “Hall-of-Famer”.
I’ve read comments in this thread for the bout between Garcia and Spence Jr. being a “stupid fight” with people hoping the PPV “fails”, which I find kind of astonishing considering so many people persistently moan about “ducking” and “cherry picking”, so when we finally see big name fighters taking risks with their unblemished records… the very same set of individuals continue to complain! FFS!

Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2018
its just not that good of a fight imo, i think its quite the mismatch, both have more interesting opponents closer to there weight. i dont think either are really huge names either, interesting to me that its getting 'mega' fight hype
really very little risk at all for spence imo. mismatches always have one side with one guy hardly facing risk, and the other side very likely to lose. i dont think this is exactly the type of fight that satisfies a desire for high level guys to engage in tough fights, because this one is too lopsided and one guy clearly is not taking much of a risk imo
i think ppl are more so after mutually risky fights like loma-mikey, rather then this and canelo-khan/ggg-brook etc

For sure, there’s a clear favourite in this fight, but it’s not a complete mismatch. I expect Garcia to survive until the second half of the bout and may even win two or three rounds in the process.jamamb wrote: ↑14 Nov 2018, 07:48 its just not that good of a fight imo, i think its quite the mismatch, both have more interesting opponents closer to there weight. i dont think either are really huge names either, interesting to me that its getting 'mega' fight hype

It’s a far more competitive bout than those we witnessed between the likes of Gennady Golovkin and Vanes Martirosyan; Conor McGregor versus Floyd Mayweather; or Mike Tyson's bout against Peter McNeeley. Those were "real" mismatches and Garcia-Spence Jr. is nowhere near as bad as any of them.
For the record, I don’t feel that your opinion is unreasonable, but it seems we don’t quite see eye-to-eye with the level of competitiveness we're expecting when Mikey Garcia eventually steps foot inside the ring against Errol Spence Jr.
Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2018
Going against the grain here but I think Garcia will cause Spence plenty of problems in the first half of the fight, Spence size and strength will likely see him take over in the latter rounds though. Fair play to Garcia.
Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2018
I'm not much impressed with this announcement. It's a big fight, but very likely not to be a competetive one. I'd rather see Loma vs Garcia.
Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2018
He has some balls on him for sure. I think he's going to get pummelled though- i wouldn't pick him over Spence even if they were the same size. With Spence being big at the weight, he's effectively 3 weight classes higher.

I may actually attend this fight.
Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2018
Personally I think Garcia has better skills than Spence mate so if they were the same size I'd bet on Mikey. Spence is shít hot and a beast so I fancy him to ware Garcia down after a shaky start....

It sounds like Spence is refusing to do VADA testing. I am wondering why.

The IBF doesn’t have a clean boxing program with VADA and Spence Jr. is that governing bodies champ. There’s no need to assume that VADA should have any involvement in this bout, since there are other anti-doping organisations in the US that fulfil the same role in the sport of boxing.boxing_rocks wrote: ↑15 Nov 2018, 19:17 It sounds like Spence is refusing to do VADA testing. Victor Conte is a co-founder of VADA and has close ties with Dr. Margaret Goodman, as well as being a strong critic of any rival drug testing organisations that operate strictly under the WADA protocol, such as USADA.
Just because Garcia and Spence Jr. aren’t being tested by VADA that doesn’t necessarily mean their is no PED testing for this fight.
A criminal like Victor Conte has a vested interest in VADA and is clearly trying to promote that organisation by strongly insinuating that anyone that doesn’t use it must be “dirty”.
Conte’s borderline slanderous comments have been carefully phrased to avoid legal liability from being on the receiving end of lawsuits.
Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2018
Speaking of scandalous statements, that’s all you did yet again with this rubbish which is once again all wrong. Conte is not a co-founder of VADA. He’s the founder of BALCO , you dope. 2 very different organizations. He has been called by VADA in a consultatory role to discuss the loopholes he was able to navigate through being the most successful steroid provider to major sport stars in history. No different than the FBI does with hiring criminals like Frank Abagnale (Catch Me If You Can-Movie) to help detect check fraud.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑16 Nov 2018, 01:13The IBF doesn’t have a clean boxing program with VADA and Spence Jr. is that governing bodies champ. Victor Conte Launching Anti-Doping Task Force VADA; WADA Aims to Develop Advanced EPO and HGH Testing
He was once the center of federal investigation and served a jail term for providing professional athletes with performance enhancing drugs. Considered as one of America’s top sports scientist, Victor Conte will again plunge himself into the sports industry by sharing his expertise in performance enhancers. But this time it is not about providing athletes with designer steroids. Conte will be launching a new anti-doping agency together with other health experts in the country.
Conte told Dennis Guillermo of Boxing Scene that a new anti-doping task force will soon become operational. Its goal is to provide athletes with the most comprehensive drug testing. Conte calls this VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency.) “We’ve been working on this since September of last year and we hope to implement it in the near future,” Conte said. However, a definite date has not been set. “How soon that can be, whether it’s going to be in days, weeks or months, I can’t tell you. But it’s going to be in the near future.”
What is VADA?
VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency) is an organization that will provide comprehensive drug testing to professional athletes who agreed to be tested voluntarily. According to Conte, sponsors will shoulder the cost of testing so that athletes will not worry about the expenses. VADA will adopt an Olympic-style drug testing to make it more effective in catching doping athletes.
Most State athletic commissions and other professional sport leagues do not follow the WADA recommended drug testing because of the cost. However, the problem with this program is if there will be players or athletes who are willing to submit themselves to stringent drug testing. Most athletes are not in favor of blood testing and unannounced tests.
There are prominent people behind VADA according to Conte. Dr. Margaret Goodman, the former ringside physician and Medical Advisory Board Chairman for the Nevada State Athletic Commission and Dr. Flip Hamonsky, a former Nevada commissioner will be some of the key people in VADA. There’s another very high profile anti-doping world renowned expert involved. We’ll reveal who this is shortly, but he is one of the most credible people in the world of anti-doping,” added Conte.
Conte Learned From His Past Mistakes
Conte vowed that he will never engage into designer steroids again. He also partnered with the USADA to help the agency catch cheating athletes.
After the BALCO investigation, Conte put up SNAC (Scientific Nutrition for Advanced Conditioning), a supplement company providing elite athletes with top of the line nutritional supplements. Right now, many professional athletes are using these supplements and the other services provided by Conte. British sprinter Dwain Chambers and WBO/WBC bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr. are just some of the athletes that gave Conte another chance to prove he’s not doing something illegal.
WADA Researching For Advanced Doping Detection Method
Meanwhile, the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) discussed in its recent meeting in Italy that they will continuously search for more advanced detection methods to catch cheating athletes. Anti-doping officials noted that manufacturers were able to produce several variations of anabolic steroids and other performance enhancing drugs. This makes it more difficult for anti-doping scientists to detect these drugs on athletes. For example, the EPO, which is a popular PED for professional cyclists, has 120 different types today.
The current test for human growth hormone is also a problem of WADA. The current method can only detect HGH within 1 or 2 days. The agency is now planning to develop tests that can detect HGH for up to 10 days.

Re: Errol Spence Jr. vs. Mikey Garcia - March 16, 2018
Just to rub even more salt into the wounds, I thought I’d supply another article detailing Victor Conte’s launching of VADA, based on a Boxing Scene article published in 2011.
"Conte Aims To Clean Up Boxing With His Team, VADA"
According to Victor Conte, none of the current blood testing is “fool proof” and that a more stringent drug testing program is needed to truly clean up sports such as boxing. Conte revealed to me today in an interview, that he is part of an anti-doping task force he calls VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency) that will soon be launched to provide athletes the most comprehensive drug testing.
Among fighters that have expressed their interest in submitting themselves to the program are IBF jr. welterweight champ Zab Judah, WBA Super World super middleweight champ Andre Ward and WBC and WBO bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr.
“I'm going to tell you something that we've never disclosed to anybody before. And we've been working on this and I'll tell you some of the names, because this has been written about in some boxing magazines. Dr. Margaret Goodman (former ringside physician and Medical Advisory Board Chairman for the Nevada State Athletic Commission), Dr. Flip Hamonsky (Former Nevada commissioner), I'm involved, and there's another very high profile anti-doping world renowned expert involved. We'll reveal who this is shortly, but he is one of the most credible people in the world of anti-doping,” Conte told me.
The program is structured so that athletes can voluntarily submit themselves to Olympic-style random drug testing which will be paid for by sponsors to alleviate worries about cost for fighters willing to step forward to show their desire to clean up the sport of boxing.
“It's called VADA (Voluntary Anti-Doping Agency). You're probably reading between the lines here on what have I been talking to Zab (Judah) about, what have I been talking to Nonito (Donaire) about, what have I been talking to Virgil Hunter about (Andre Ward's trainer)," Conte further explained to me. "We've been working on this since September of last year and we hope to implement it in the near future. How soon that can be, whether it's going to be in days, weeks or months, I can't tell you. But it's going to be in the near future.”

Not sure where you get your fraudulent news but you should really check the source. Margaret Goodman is the founder of VADA. Don't know how else to explain that so go shove your head back in your ars.
