He lost a close fight with cleverly then beat him in a rematch at cruiser weight ( Cleverly should of never gone to CW). He moved to CW cos Stevenson battered him and he weren't gonna do anything at the weight. Yeah he struggled to make weight but most fighters do. the first time he boxed Haye he was losing until the injury. Haye was a shell of his former self and was yet still fancied by many in the rematch down to the fact that Bellew just wasn't world class. He talked himself into big fights and fair play he's earnt a lot of money but he will not be remembered as anything other than a average fighter with a big Character

Average fighters don’t have that kind of success.

Still a great career, not everyone can be Floyd Mayweather. If I went into boxing and achieved what Bellew done I'd be very happy with myself. Even the greatest fighters on the planet have their critics so you can't please everyone no matter who you beat or how many titles you win.

thats a pretty good record imo. obviously not an elite record or anything, but pretty good. he was a world lower top 10 lhw for a bit and prob top 5 at cruiser for a bit. a few publications also ranked him top 10 hw for a spell. he won commonwealth, brit, ebu , and world titles. thats a solid career.

also, i think he was a lot better then often credited with. ppl would often say stuff like 'accomplished a lot for a guy with his limits', but he was actually pretty talented....good power, solid hand speed, had a full range of punches, could move and box a bit.

he was a 3x aba champ with some big knockouts too remember, not just some half decent amateur who decided to give the pros a go and did way beyond anything hed every shown

i think its pretty clear that really the only major honour bellew missed out on was a prizefighter title

Second fight was rubbish. One of the worst I've ever seen. Cleverly seem incapacitated. I'm surprised he actually came back after that. He seemed to have a bad arm injury.

I thought he accepted the fight as a late replacement but the board weren't happy with the amount of weight he had to shift in a short time. When they eventually fought I think they both got a proper camp. I could be wrong though

Sure, all of those at times, but I always got the impression he was winding himself up to 'hate' his opponents, because spite didn't come naturally to him. That makes him even more lovable in my eyes.

He won every prize there is to win, and gave us fans some great fights - and all without being especially talented.
He reminded us we should all cherish our grandmothers too.

I think he was a good fighter who made the most of his abilities. No he wasn't elite but was definitely world class and the haye wins were excellent. I think him taking that first fight was impressive as most pundits thought he'd get koed early.

Fair to say too he was pretty good in creed. Very natural unlike many other sportsmen who try and act. I like him and I'm pleased he had such a good later part of his career.
