I think Danny will be ok as long as he doesn't stand and pose, which he didn't do against Tyson. He's got to be putting Vitali under pressure to win.
Although Lewis was sluggish, he hit Vitali with an uppercut which made the whole auditorium gasp, and recovered well. Had Lewis been in his prime, that shot would have been followed and preceded by several other punches and I think Lewis would have destroyed Vitali.
Danny is in much better nick than Lewis was at that point, and his destruction of Tyson shows he can hit, because Tyson has a great chin. Punch for punch Lewis hit harder than Danny, but Danny's handspeed is far greater than Lewis' was by the time Vitali got him.
I think you're over-rating Willams a tad James, even that aging out of shape Lewis was better in every department than Williams. You say his handspeed is far greater but that's measured against who exactly? A shot Tyson and a lumbering Sprott? As for being in better shape, don't forget Danny weighed like 100 stone against Tyson. Who knows how much Williams would have had left had Tyson survived that 4th round onslaught.
Danny threw more shots in that fight, than Lewis did in his fight with Vitali.
I don't give a bollock what anyone says, for the first couple of rounds, Tyson looked sharper than he had in a long time, a lot of the American writers, who weren't exactly rooting for Danny, said the same thing after he beat Tyson.
Mike looked good until Danny started panning him back and he's always reacted badly to being chinned repeatedly.
Danny is a very big man. Despite being only 6'1 6'2", he is very solid, and although he may have had a little podge around the middle, his arms, shoulders and back muscles were solid. Danny is very good at around 245, I don't think he can weight less than this and be effective at his age.
I also don't think he is unfit, not judging by his punch output against Tyson anyhow.
Sprott is hardly a lumbering fighter either, one thing he does have is good handspeed, so that's just plain untrue.
How is it good for the division if Danny loses, what bollocks.
If Vitali gets beat, then he obviously isn't the dominant champ, and is danny really worse than John Ruiz? What about Lamon Brewster? Byrd is on the slide, Vitali has shown he can be hit and hurt and that he has no defence to speak of,
Tell me, is Danny really worse than these men, I'm not convinced anyone out there right now is anything special.
I also believe that a fighter's career can change dramatically after the kind of victory Danny had over Tyson.
Everyone's saying Danny is overrated based on his Tyson victory, well Vitali is overrated based on his loss to Lewis, battering human slug Johnson who had no business being in a boxing ring in that shape, and hammering a 38 semi-retired fighter, who made his name battering his robotic brother.
Tracers work both ways, Vitali has yet to convince me he's going to dominate the division, his skills are very mediocre, and without his chin and size, he'd be at the mercy of many fighters. For now that may be enough to dominate for a little while, we shall see.
