Brother Mike had same tragic ending if memory serves.

That's right. They both had the same condition which caused their brains to be especially susceptible to dementia brought on by the impact of punches. There were four brothers. Jerry and Mike were world level, a third brother was a journeyman and the fourth didn't box.

I don't know if the third brother suffered the same fate. Presumably the non-boxing brother was ok but that's just an assumption.

The division is certainly at It's most intriguing since the 90s HW Silver age.
May I ask what the Gold and Bronze Age are in Boxing?

I sort of made it up.

The 70s is widely regarded as the golden era of HW boxing.

If this is the case, then the 90s are arguably the second best era, therefore silver age.

If this current crop of top HWs keep fighting each other, we might well experience the 3rd best era, bronze age.

The only problem is once we happen upon another great HW era in the future, I don't know what medal based appendage I can give that.

Is anything pre-70s the stone age of heavyweight boxing? :maybe:

Before Tunney emerged, it had been sorta The Stone Age.

Fury was just lucky that Klitschko had his worst performance in well over a decade that night, Fury knows that very well. This is the reason why Fury never gave Klitschko a rematch, and in fact still doesn't dare to do that.
Those stories about luck are just another excuses. Fury won, cause Klitschko had never faced such opponent before and was totally disoriented.
Klitschko was in an emotional roller coaster because his wife was sick and Fury managed to abuse that and knows he will never succeed again. That's why Fury till the day of today doesn't dare to give him the rematch. Fury can easely give a rematch on the undercard of AJ vs Wilder, so there's no excuse left for that either. Klitschko is better then Fury and Fury just met him at a lucky moment and he knows that very well. If anyone lost a match against Fury, it's Wilder. Wilder lost with a far bigger margine then Klitschko did.
Yeah... And also Klitschko's dog ate his heavy bag and sparring partners, so it was really impossible for Wlad to prepare for Fury bout.

There are so many variables to a prize fight. So many opportunities for excuses. The only aspect that matters is the result. If a fighter is not 100%, for whatever the reason, but still participates, then none of that matters. Only the result as I mentioned. A win is a win is a win.

Fury in kind of reasonable condition would beat any version of Wlad any time. Does that mean that Fury is a better fighter than Wlad? No it doesn't, and he isn't, but he does have the combination of attributes for which even a prime Wlad has no antidote.

In my not terribly humble opinion obviously.

Styles make fights and Fury isn't going to make anyone look good ever. He could be beat, but there'll be a lot of frustration and awkwardness during the fight. He's a unique individual. Sort of a Jimmy Young at 6'9". Not an insult. Just makes you look bad.

He was a good body puncher. I met him when I was a kid so I cheered for him. Oddly, he'd be an action fighter today!

For sure, but I guarantee he threw a lot more punches than fury or wilder on average. To be fair, the Ali fight was all time abysmal.

Young should've been warned and then penalized for slipping between the ropes to get away from shots. I couldn't stand that shite.

Now, there's a potential match-up that never occurred back in the '70s that could have but didn't. Jerry Quarry vs Jimmy Young.
Unfortunately, by the time that such a bout would have been in demand in 1975 or so, Jerry was past his best & Young was just beginning his short-lived prime so I'd have to give it to Jimmy via a 12 round decision. Maybe even a late rounds cuts TKO.
