..I wonder what his next project might be: boxing in octagon against 200 pounds heavy 20-year-old chess-player? ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)
I can't think of any fighter that would turn down this type of money for basically a sparring session.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑31 Dec 2018, 15:59 To be fair, Manny Pacquiao would have almost certainly agreed to face Tenshin Nasukawa for the sort of money Floyd received.
People like to take the moral high-ground and criticise certain business decisions, but many fighters that criticised Floyd for facing Conor McGregor also openly admitted that they’d agreed do the very same thing.
Forget about morality, money is the only thing that really matters for most professional fighters.
I really can’t help thinking that Floyd enjoys his nortoriety, because it’s the main reason why he’s enjoyed such a financially lucrative career.
People are generally jealous of him, even thoufh he tries his upmost to portray himself as a distinctly unlikable character. It works for him.
Yup, looks easy does boxing, it isn’t!Impractical Poster wrote: ↑31 Dec 2018, 19:58 The dude thought he could win. They paid Mayweather a lot of money for the opportunity. They found out he couldn't win. I don't see the issue.
I’m glad we agree on this. Manny would definitely take it and run to the bank to cash it before the ink dried

If he was paid at least $10m, then he probably woud be willing to undertake a project like the one you describe... in fact, most fighters would do so also, if they received a sizeable pay cheque.
First of all, I don’t agree with Dan Rafael’s criticism of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s exhibition bout against Tenshin Nasukawa, since the vast majority of fighters would have done the same thing and it’s novelty events such as this one that attracts widespread interest from the mainstream casuals.
At least they were boxers and around the same weight as GGG at the time. That Tenshin fight was a joke. Hagler, who many rate as one of the greatest MWs in history, his best opponents were Hearns (welterweight), SRL (welterweight) and Duran (lightweight).Enlightened-One wrote: ↑02 Jan 2019, 06:01First of all, I don’t agree with Dan Rafael’s criticism of Floyd Mayweather Jr’s exhibition bout against Tenshin Nasukawa, since the vast majority of fighters would have done the same thing and it’s novelty events such as this one that attracts widespread interest from the mainstream casuals.
And I feel that Andre Ward’s comments about so-called “boogiemen” to be a tad inappropriate assuming he’s referring to the likes of GGG, even though he is technically correct.
I know I’m going to get aggressively ridiculed for having the sheer audacity for bothering to fact-check Ward’s claim, even though it is almost certainly correct.
We know for certain that GGG has been competing at 165lbs as an amateur and 160lbs as a pro for more than sixteen years.
It’s also a statistical fact that 16 of Golovkin’s 22 world title bouts were against men that competed in lower weight classes prior to their bout against the Kazakh:
• Kell Brook (welterweight)
• David Lemieux (light middleweight)
• Willie Monroe Jr. (light middleweight)
• Marco Antonio Rubio (welterweight)
• Osumanu Adama (light middleweight)
• Matthew Macklin (welterweight)
• Nobuhiro Ishida (light middleweight)
• Gabriel Rosado (light middleweight)
• Grzegorz Proksa (light middleweight)
• Makoto Fuchigami (light middleweight)
• Kassim Ouma (welterweight)
• Nilson Julio Tapia (light middleweight)
• Canelo (light welterweight)
• Vanes Martirosyan (light middleweight)
• Milton Nunez (light middleweight)
For the record, I feel that the comments made by Dan Rafael and Andre Ward were unnecessary, but I was admittedly very surprised about the accuracy of the SOG’s claim!
Floyd's bout was only ever advertised as an exhibition. There was no pretence for it to represent anything other than that.Controversial wrote: ↑02 Jan 2019, 06:10At least they were boxers and around the same weight as GGG at the time. I know, I was more commenting on the comparison to GGG and Hagler. FMM is just milking stupid people of their money, if he wants a competitive exhibition maybe he should let them fight at their chosen martial art.Enlightened-One wrote: ↑02 Jan 2019, 06:24 Floyd's bout was only ever advertised as an exhibition.
