It was formed in 1988. I went to their site. I don't see how it appeared out of nowhere for that fight. There's nothing before it for Holyfield or Lewis winning it. I've never really held that belt very high.

A lot of Hearn fighters won it, Colin Lynes, Jason Cook, Charles Shepherd off the top of my head

Prior to Lennox Lewis there were 5 previous IBO heavyweight champions:
Pinklon Thomas, Lionel Butler, Danell Nicholson, Jimmy Thunder and Brian Nielsen.

A cavalcade of stars. Although Thomas was tough in his day.

I think the fact that Hearn never mentions any ibo mandatory commitments for Joshua tells its own story.

I wouldn't be surprised if certain fighters are paid to wear the ibo belt along with their other belts.

Nah I don’t think so.
They may waive fees to get a boxer to hold the belt or have done in the past but the only reason to do that would be to create a halo effect so that lower level boxers would be encouraged to pay the sanction fees. The sanction fees are not high enough that it would work out. Wladimir Klitschko or GGG for example we’re making a lot of money. The amount they would need to be paid would be too high to be worthwhile in order to collect the quite modest sanction fees that lower level contests pay.
Also if that were the case one would imagine that they would want their belt on the WBSS Champion so would be happy to pay or waive fees, yet the title became vacant because Groves declined to pay the sanction fee.

Don’t think they enforce mandatories.. also there rankings include other org champions.

Also other orgs include IBO champions because they don’t recognise it as a true world title.

Well, there you have it. They are a non-threat posing as window dressing.

Remember when the IBF belt was considered to be a Mickey Mouse belt?

Remember when a corset was more prestigious than the WBO belt?

Now they're part of the so-called mainstream and something a fighter has to have in order to be considered undisputed.

Give it 20 years and the IBO belt will join them; in fact, a so-called undisputed champion of about 2040 will need to hire a crane in order to lift all their belts into the arena.

Very true. I remember when the IBF came around, I was like, Sheesh!! Just what we need...a third sanctioning body! LMAO!

So lets imagine a fighter has the chance to fight for the WBA REGULAR WORLD TITLE or the IBO WORLD TITLE which one would they prefer

easily the wba regular, as much as we dont like those belts they still matter, hw contenders like whyte , miller, etc still talk about manuel charr just because he has the belt. pretty much never will you get the big players in a diviison honing in on a guy just because he has the ibo

Both titles are worthless. The WBA made the regular title worthless by making a title above it. The IBO is also worthless and would generate a lot less money by winning it.

On a positive note for a IBO title the challenger who has a record of lets say 4 wins 6 losses would possibly get an opponent with a record of 1 win 120 losses. But at least he can go home and get into his local news paper and turn on the Christmas lights at Christmas.

Just asked a mate who works at York Hall, they don't tend to run boxing events in January, mainly due to the heavy demand on the gym/swimming facilities after the new year break. The next event they have is Wrestling in February. The first boxing event of the year is March

So I don't quite know who you are or who you scheduled/booked the date with. Maybe it was George Agdgdgwngo

Not a legitimate world championship...

When have 2 top-class boxers ever faced off for the IBO title alone?

My point exactly....

Chad Dawson v Glenn Johnson was, neither out of place holding any world title.

Breidis v Huck (although I think that was defending IBO and also for a vacant WBA or WBC)

Hatton v Malignaggi

Hatton v Pacquiao

Hopkins v Tarver

Ndou v Ndou maybe?

Tarver v RJJ

Tarver v Glenn Johnson twice

Maybe Carl Thompson v Haye

Maybe Carl Thompson v Rothmann

Its quite possible the IBO actually gave money to some of these boxers just to fight for the title, giving the IBO exposure.
