on the topic of marv frazier, was he actually that bad, or just failed badly vs two hw greats
because i had a look over his record and he has wins over bonecrusher smith, james tillis, and bugner. also cruiser champ bernard benton. thats decent. he was also a good amateur and won the world juniors and national usa golden gloves.
tbh ive never seen him fight aside from his icings, but i get the sense he may have actually been a decent fighter whose most memorable moments were unfortuntely very grizzly. and of course he couldnt come close to his fathers career.

I would fancy him against the likes of Miller and Stirvene. Wouldn't beat the likes of Joyce. But nevertheless, especially today, he is a top 20 fighter.
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Anthony Crolla - 12 April 2019
I saw him several times. Most in him getting ko'd, but...if he were to fight today, he may have been a successful CW. He wasn't horrible, but he was grossly undersized (small build) and lacked the power to contend at HW, IMHO.jamamb wrote: ↑25 Feb 2019, 13:32 on the topic of marv frazier, was he actually that bad, or just failed badly vs two hw greats

Dickens vs Rigo
Clarke vs Vargas.
At least Crolla won a version of the title and beat some fringe contenders. He warrants a world title shot... and a normal champion he might have half a shout....but Loma is no ordinary champ.

Frazier was a really good amateur and used a completely different style. He was a boxer and mover and had success.
Unfortunately as a PRO he changed his style to be more fan friendly (And fight like his father did).
He under-achieved Marvis. Good fighter and by all-accounts a good fella.

Was just gonna say.. I don’t think Loma has been on Sky in a while..
They did hype him at Usyk-Bellew, mostly due to Crolla fighting that eliminator

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Anthony Crolla - 12 April 2019
Anthony Crolla is acutely aware of Vasyl Lomachenko's reputation as one of the best fighters on the planet but is intent on causing an almighty upset against the unified world lightweight champion.
The Mancunian said: 'It's a very difficult challenge. I'm not stupid, I'm not deluded, it's a very, very tough fight and it's a very big ask.
'I've got nowhere near as much ability as him. He does almost everything better than me. I'm fighting one of the best pound-for-pound fighters on the planet but I'm excited by all that, I'm not scared in any way by that.
'I'm in a great place and one advantage I have got that night is I believe I am the natural lightweight between us both.
'I think that's an advantage. I don't think he's a 135lber, I think he could still make 130.
'I go in there with a game plan, I always have belief in myself, I'll be in great condition physically and mentally. I genuinely believe I can go in there and find a shot to shock the world.
'It's going to take a career-best performance or punch, I'm a huge underdog. But I'm not going over there for the experience, I'm going over there to shock the world.
'There are very, very few people expecting me to go there and pull off one of the biggest shocks in British boxing history, so I've got nothing to lose in that sense.
'But I have my own expectations and I go over there with the motivation to do that so I want to do everyone around me proud. I want to be remembered forever by doing this.'

He was tiny. He’d have made a good cruiser weight. His dad pushed him far far too hard too soon.

Undefeated super lightweight Arnold Barboza Jr. is a young contender closing in on a world title shot. Mike Alvarado wants another taste of world championship glory. Barboza, from South El Monte, California, will take on former 140-pound world champion Alvarado in a 10-round super lightweight bout on Friday, April 12 at Staples Center as part of the Vasiliy Lomachenko-Anthony Crolla undercard.
Also on the card:
Top welterweight contender Alexander Besputin (12-0, 9 KOs) will defend his USBA title against Alfredo Blanco (20-7, 11 KOs) in a 10-rounder. Besputin is currently ranked No. 1 by the WBA.
“I am a top welterweight, and now that I’m ranked No. 1 by the WBA, I can’t be avoided by the champions for long,” Besputin said. “I am ready to put the welterweight division on notice.”
Janibek Alimkhanuly (5-0, 2 KOs), a former amateur standout from Kazakhstan, will face the rugged Cristian Olivas (16-4, 13 KOs) in a 10-rounder for the vacant WBO Global and WBC Continental Americas middleweight belts. Two of Olivas’ four losses have come via split decision, and he has never been knocked out as a pro.
“I am training hard with Buddy McGirt, and I know that Olivas is a tough customer who will come forward and make for a great fight,” Alimkhanuly said. “It is a dream come true to fight at Staples Center, and I want to give all of the great fans in Los Angeles a spectacular show. I will show everyone what Qazaq boxing style is all about.”
Super middleweight contender and three-time Indian Olympian Vijender Singh (10-0, 7 KOs) will make his United States debut against Calvin Metcalf (9-1-1, 2 KOs) in an eight-rounder. Singh captured a bronze medal at the 2008 Olympics, becoming the first Indian boxer to claim an Olympic medal.
Italian heavyweight Guido “The Gladiator” Vianello (2-0, 2 KOs), who represented his homeland at the 2016 Rio Olympics, will fight Lawrence Gabriel (3-1-1, 2 KOs) in a six-rounder.
Los Angeles native Chris “The Boy” Zavala (3-0, 2 KOs) will face Sergio Gonzales (2-2, 1 KO) in a four-rounder at super featherweight.
Dominican-born bantamweight prospect Elvis Rodriguez (1-0, 1 KO) will take on Kevin Luna (1-2, 1 KO) in a four-rounder.

I hope joe Gallagher has tweaked Crollas style for Loma. His normal hands high and get in close and work the body will have no effect on Loma, his ability to judge distance and footwork are second to none. It could end up being a early bath for Crolla if he boxes how we normally see him

I must remind myself this is one of the reasons I love Boxing anything can happen in a fight and the UNDERDOG does win sometimes I hope Million Dollar gets payed that or there abouts he will certainly earn it I would love to see the UPSET but this time it will be asking to much Loma needs to fight Mikey and Tank those type of test will cement his legacy. ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)

Out of all of them, I like Davis' chances best.ClivePatrickLyons wrote: ↑02 Apr 2019, 21:20 I must remind myself this is one of the reasons I love Boxing anything can happen in a fight and the UNDERDOG does win sometimes I hope Million Dollar gets payed that or there abouts he will certainly earn it I would love to see the UPSET but this time it will be asking to much Loma needs to fight Mikey and Tank those type of test will cement his legacy.![]()

I agree after this fight the Loma v Tank fight should be demanded by team Loma I think Mikey could be damaged goods that fight should have been made before the ill-advised fight with Spence Jr after that mismatch im not nearly as keen to see Garcia v Loma.
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Anthony Crolla - 12 April 2019
davis side openly said there waiting loma out, plus davis matchmaking had no ambition lately, sucks cus i think hed have a great chance to beat loma

I think Davis would get battered. Mikey would be a real test though if the spence fight ain't taken to much out of him

Yup the money team seem to think this too as they’ve avoided Lomachenko like he plague. Agree also that Garcia has the best chance but he took a beating in the Spence fight. It will take some time for him to recover from that.
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Anthony Crolla - 12 April 2019
Yeah, Garcia needs to get back on the winning track before he would fight Loma.ClivePatrickLyons wrote: ↑02 Apr 2019, 21:29 I agree after this fight the Loma v Tank fight should be demanded by team Loma I think Mikey could be damaged goods that fight should have been made before the ill-advised fight with Spence Jr after that mismatch im not nearly as keen to see Garcia v Loma.
Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Anthony Crolla - 12 April 2019
My guess is that Loma will be forced into higher weight classes...and Davis will definitely wait for him to blow out into old age.
Loma is as good as anyone I've seen in my time following the sport but he's already past his prime and needs to be at 130.

Re: Vasyl Lomachenko vs. Anthony Crolla - 12 April 2019
Off course I don't give Anthony a chance, but I've actually never been sold at him being a fully fledged Lightweight. I've always seen him as a bulked up Super Feather. At least he seems to have the size over Lomachenko - and its not often he has that.
