It's very true that management and promoters avoid or turn down fights simply because it will be more marketable and lucrative in the future.
Angelo Dundee recalled that in the late 70s Ray Leonard was offered $500,000 to fight Hearns. This was before either had won a championship.
Dundee and Trainor discussed it and passed.
Word went around that Team Sugar Ray was frightened of Hearns.
Years afterward Dundee said that there was no fear. It was strictly a matter of economics.
"Why fight today for a half million dollars when I knew that if we waited for a few years, the fight would be worth 10 times as much?" Dundee said.
Sharp boxing minds let potential blockbusters marinate to whet the appetite and increase the revenue.
Nothing wrong with thst thinking.
Nothing wrong for promoters, definitely.
Wrong for us - boxing fans.
But often when you wait, you get a better fight.
The boxers develop their skills further, and can put on an elite level classic.

In this situation you wait until the money is big enough for rival promoters to think about it.

He's a fighter. No reason why he shouldn't. If he loses, so what? That's what's wrong with boxers today. What if Tommy Hearns thought it was too soon to face Sugar Ray Leonard?
Hearns and Leonard was a pickum unification super fight for 10 times the money. Not the best example. I completely agree about the fights but there was always a ton of fights among the best that didn't happen. It's just more glaring because they fight once or twice a year and there isn't nearly as many 'best'.
Even so, we shouldn't be giving the best athletes of their sport excuses not to challenge themselves against.....the best athletes of their sports. This only happens in boxing. Imagine if Magic could opt out of playing against Larry Bird in the early 80s simply because "he wasn't ready."

Difference is both Leonard and Hearns were contenders and as you said "before either had won a championship"
Both Davis and Loma are champions. Both are number one in their weight class.

No.
While Mayweather and Pacquiao made more money waiting, neither developed their skills further. Neither did Leonard and Hagler.
It's like if De La Hoya waited for Trinidad to become bigger.

Oh, I don't disagree with your point at all. Just like comparing apples to mudslides. Tommy got equal money in that fight.

Where did you read that? According to Wiki (which isn't always credible) Leonard got 11 mil and Hearns got 5 mil. Whatever the case, Davis would get a career high payday as of right now if he fought Loma right now. The problem isn't just taking on Loma. Davis won't even fight Farmer and won't even consider undersized Russell or Santa Cruz who are also PBC.

I always go on memory but I thought they got 10 million each. Could be wrong, either way the point remains.

Sure the point is valid. I just think the guy Davis won't even fight Farmer and won't even consider smaller better fighters than he's been fighting like Santa Cruz or Russell.

Don't agree with that. He'll fight them. Floyd and arum aren't putting two of there top guys together for a million each. Both of the fighters would.

Davis is a super talent and a potential ATG. But he'll never be as good as Lomachenko. Though he might beat an older version when the time comes.

I think that's an absurd statement.
Davis has every chance to beat Loma, and to become a better champion.
