He should be more respectful of DeGale. Degale did something that Froch didn't manage to do -he beat Dirrell. As far as I am concerned, Dirrell beat Foch; outboxed him.

Froch got beat 3 times and in 3 different ways:

1. Outboxed by Dirrell
2. Outgunned by Kessler in the first fight
3. Had his pockets picked and was roughed up by Ward.

Yet, in his head, he is invincible. Amazing.

He definitely lost to Dirrell that's why he was on his knees praying he got the decision.

I scored it 8-4 to Dirrell with the sound down..
Apparently there was a hell of an atmosphere in Notingham that night and I think the judges were swayed due to wild cheers for every Froch punch thrown despite him missing with pretty much all of them.

I'll never forget the way the crowd turned on him when he was talking after the first Groves fight, that must still hurt but he deserved it.

dirrell fight his accruacy was woeful but so many rounds dirrell threw next to nothing, i honestly think you can make a case for froch, he at least had dirrell looking very uncomfortable and flighty, even though if u pick the best shots from the fight they on the whole were for dirrel

When the Chavez Jr fight never happened then he retired.

He did what he slated Calzaghe off for. Except Calzaghe moved up to fight for the Lineal Title at LHW.

Carl was a great fighter but I've grown to dislike him since his retirement.

He is still bitter over the Andre Ward schooling. A great fighter just can't accept he was never "The Man" at Super Middle.
No. Joe ducked a mandatory before moving up. Carl (to his credit) took care of his in groves before retiring. He in no way "ducked" degale, and to accuse a man with Carl's record of that is just nonsense. There is always another name, and by that logic every fighter who ever retired has 'ducked' someone. I fail to recall ANYONE clamouring for froch vs degale at the time. I get people don't like him personally, but Carl ducked no one, his record speaks for itself.

A duck is what degale did in order to fight Eubank ie vacate rather than fight his mandatory

Naandrew is my bestmate irl and we regularly breach this subject. Froch is a world class twat, but was a world classfighter too. I refuse to sanction the idea that he ducked Degale.

There comes a time in any fighters career where they know they can’t get up for a fight, Degale offered no real change to his legacy, I’ve no problem with him not fighting him. Though I also believe Calzaghe felt the same way about Carl, Calzaghe was in the upper echelons of boxing when he chose to fight Jones Jr, why would a fight against a guy who just became the mandatory for a belt at a weight you’d just left turn you on?

They were just two fighters from different eras, they’re careers didn’t really cross.

I was there, it was an brilliant atmosphere. Froch won it, very close but he did.
Saying he missed all night is wrong. Can just as easily say Dirrell ran all night and wouldn't engage.

Calzaghe was left with two choices.

Do you want to bow out against Froch for peanuts at a weight you've just moved up from?

Or do you want to bow out against Roy Jones for good money at Madison Square Garden?

People need to stop the lazy accusation that Calzaghe ducked Froch. It didn't happen. Calzaghe was done with super middle weight and wanted a last big pay day in a high profile fight in the states.

The ships just never passed in the night
Not only was Calzaghe smart but he was a shrewd fighter made good decisions at the correct time - miss him!

My only criticism of Calzaghe is that he should have tested himself against the American guys when he was younger

Not just the Americans but all the other guys floating around the Super Middleweight division during his WBO reign of terror, Beyer, Ottke, Green, Mundine and Lucas, he could have unified that division years before he actually did.

Yeah he was miles better than all of those listed.

Getting a decision against Ottke in Germany would have taken some doing though!

Beyer, Ottke and Hopkins wouldn't fight him. Mundane and Lucas were no better than Bika.
Roy Jones had moved up in weight, but I don't know what efforts were made to get that fight done. Jones at his peak seemed nearly unbeatable.

The only one I think would have beaten Calzaghe out of those was a peak Jones.

Jones spent more time at light heavy during that period if my memory is working

Mundine and Lucas were briefly champions though during his career so there was something to be gained by fighting them.

Jones moved up to LH in 1996 almost a year before Calzaghe defeated Eubank.

I saw him standing around ringside at a match room Birmingham show, way before sky went on air (wanted to watch some of the early fights on the show ) I walked up with my ex mises and asked for a quick photo with him , he looked at me as if to say who do you think you are bothering me... and said no I’m busy . I just thought what a prick and walked away .

Don’t get me wrong time and place and all that but he was at a boxing show and stood alone . I was polite and respectful.

Slightly off topic, I think Froch would have lost to the RJJ that Calzaghe beat. Roy would have old manned him.

I seem to recall bika being a really tough nights work for joe, do I remember that fight wrong as I'm getting older? I mean joe won clearly enough, but I'm sure he got in the ring after enzos fight with a head shaped like a fornicating melon. I remember thinking 'fornicate earning a living doing that'. Wasn't bika useful with the noggin?

Yep. Joe said Bika was one tough dude. The injuries rather spoiled Joe's photo opportunity with Sugar Ray the day after.

fornicate no. Froch would have connected and had him on Queer Street. Froch was a great finisher, and at that stage joes hands hampered his ability to drop fighters. Just cos he lasted 12 with a retiring joe (who admits he cut corners for that fight) doesn't mean he could compete with the young hungry dangerous lions. And froch was starving at the point.

I spoke to him and his missus when they were on a night out round my way, he was a gent and happy to have a chat.
He also was happy to do a load of pics at my mates lads birthday party at a pizza place when he was with his own family.
