and will be fighting for the BeNeLux(Belgium-Netherlands-Luxembourg) title next week....against a Russian.

in all honesty, I have lost faith that any British fighter who shows any talent is ever going to be put in with any decent opponent again
Once they face a few "name" people and win, they move to fighting in their home town against a succession of fading names and nobodies to pad their records and their pocket books. Great for thier pension but most people do't charge the public £50 a pop to pad out their retirement fund
I think we have the talent here to have a few proper world champs, but without ambition and decent promoters, we are just being milked dry by these saps
I cannot see myself going to "major" fight in the UK again. I would rather sit at home and watch tapes of Conteh, Stracey, Watt etc. I mean, I know the result already, but I did lat night too

I just love British matchmaking at the moment...most aspiring fighters or fighters in general have a soft touch thrown in here and there to keep things ticking and make a bit of money but with our lads it's different. They have a half decent fighter thrown in every now and again amongst a steady stream of soft touches

I wonder what would have happened had this happened in Vegas or anywhere in the US. They would have torn that fornicating place apart. Maybe this is the last straw, Sports Network have outdone themselves this year. Maybe someone from the company is reading this. Come on then, explain yourselves, this is indefensable. 90% of the 3000 Scottish at that fight will never go to watch Harrison again. His celebrating at the end of the fight made it look like he was saying "thanks for your money folks, youve been had".

A Scottish view of the fight
FIRST things first. The one man who was not to blame for Friday night’s fiasco at Braehead Arena was Scott Harrison.
The world champion did his job to his utmost best and took out his opponent in a style which suggests that he really is the most dangerous featherweight in the world.
It is no secret that Harrison had been particularly mean and nasty in preparing for this fight, as his sparring partners and management will testify. Only in the few days before the fight did Harrison appear to lighten up, sensing that he really was about to make history with his fifth successful world title defence, beating Jim Watt’s old record by one.
But he would have preferred to make history in a more satisfying fashion, though his vehemence in battering Kebede was undoubted. It was with a few choice comments and an air of unjustified arrogance that Samuel Kebede got on Harrison’s wrong side. You don’t want to do that, unless you’re suicidal.
In my book, Kebede lost the fight at the first press conference some weeks ago in Glasgow when the Ethiopian looked nervous and totally overwhelmed by the intimidating presence of Harrison. It was clear to seasoned observers that for all his unbeaten record, Kebede was way out of his depth.
Harrison could have "held up" his challenger and made the mismatch look better. Muhammad Ali did it with the likes of Jurgen Blin, Jean-Pierre Coopman, and Britain’s own Richard Dunn, toying with these hapless fighters before clinically despatching them after he got bored.
Harrison is not like that, however. He clearly believes in Frank Bruno’s old adage - stated after he had knocked out yet another bum in the first round - that the promoters "don’t pay no overtime". Only one bookmaker in Glasgow was apparently offering odds of which round Kebede would fall in, and touted 16/1 on the first. What a pity promoter and manager Alex Morrison didn’t tell us that until after the fight...
The immediate reaction after the minute of mayhem was that Kebede had taken a dive. But the Ethiopian was adamant that he had been caught high on the temple by a right hook. He did say that he was not hurt and added that referee Mickey Vann had stepped in too early. But those of us at ringside could see Kebede’s eyes, not to mention his wobbly legs, and Vann made the right decision. Harrison’s next punches might well have been the kind we never want to write about.
There is actually some evidence to believe that Kebede really did have his senses scrambled by that initial blow. In Miami in 1964, a certain young Cassius Clay caught Sonny Liston with exactly the same punch on the temple and the great bad bear bit the canvas.
Earlier this year, Alex Arthur struck Michael Kizza in exactly the same spot and he went wobbly too. It’s not that the punches have to be very hard - though Harrison’s hook was ferocious to say the very least - it’s just that when they hit that small area high on the side of the head, the brain says "time out".
Nevertheless, the outcome left a sour taste in the mouth and the World Boxing Organisation and the British Boxing Board of Control must look at Kebede’s performance and his attitude beforehand to see if he properly fulfilled the role of a professional - the fact that he claimed not to have bothered viewing tapes of Harrison suggests his mental state was not attuned, to say the least.
There’s not much point in withholding his share of the purse, though that has been suggested in some quarters. Kebede is finished in Britain, and probably elsewhere in the world after that shocking display.
Promoter allegedly and Harrison’s manager Frank Maloney must bear some responsibility for what transpired. Someone somewhere along the line should have said "this guy just isn’t up to it" and looked for a more credible opponent. But above all, the WBO is to blame for giving Kebede a number five ranking when no one else rated him in the top 30.
Maloney claimed with some justification that the WBO ranking was what made the match possible. So how did Kebede get to number five when he struggled to beat Jus Wallie, the Sri Lankan who has a world ranking of around 700. The WBO owes it to the Scottish fight fans to say how that happened.
What’s next for Harrison? Probably another voluntary defence before the New Year when his declared aim is to unify the featherweight titles. The problem is that other champions are all committed to fights, so he will have to wait until May or June. He should then take on WBC champion Injin Chi, followed by the winner of the Juan Manuel Marquez-Manny Pacquiao rematch for the IBF/WBA titles in February and lastly the victor of Marco Antonio Barrera’s rematch with Erik Morales next month.
Harrison’s fans will stay with the champion because they know he will deliver. But those who make the fights must deliver first.

A few points I disagree with in the above article.
(1) To say Harrison took the opponent out in style, is a bit much as the punched were just glancing blows, there was no spectacular combinations or devestating one punch KO to rave about.
(2) I may be wrong here but wasn't it Lloyd Honeyghan and not Frank Bruno who first used the "I don't get payed overtime" line?
(3) Calling the fight 'a minute of mayhem' gives a totally wrong impression of what happened.
(4) The sentance
'In Miami in 1964, a certain young Cassius Clay caught Sonny Liston with exactly the same punch on the temple and the great bad bear bit the canvas.' This is so wrong I don't know where to begin? Wrong date, wrong name, different punch, wrong wrong wrong!
(5) Quote
'though Harrison’s hook was ferocious to say the very least' . That's debatable to say the very least.
(6) I don't see the fact that Kebede didn't view video tapes is really a major factor. Many fighters don't, many let their trainers do that. Also this has only been possible since tha video player was widely available. What does that say about all the fighters pre say 1980?

That was a groveling article, he should just tell it like it is. The fans where utterly ripped off. The WBO didn't force Harrison to fight this guy, his team picked him.

I'm not sure I'd call it that Joe, there's generally two types of boxing fan up here: those like Don Kaufmann who are extremely gullable, and those who know the score. 'Journalists' like this guy pander to the insecure former types; I personally find this article embarrasing and nauseating in equal measure.
Sounds like this 'journalist's' knowledge of boxing equates to a Muhammad Ali bio and memories of Bruno on the BBC.

There's great potential here for a juvenile slanging match that would bump up my post count but at the end of the day the quality of this board would suffer, and that's infinitely more important than getting one over some troll. Plus slanging matches on the internet are a bit sad, in my opinion, and I'd probably feel insecure walking about 'in real life' because of it. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about Don, considering how insecure and paranoid you are with that huge chip on your shoulder about your national identity. Enjoy slinging insults and contributing nothing worthwhile to this forum while trying to start your shitty arguments. The best way to make a troll disappear, short of banning, is to simply ignore them, and that's what I'm gonna do from now on with you... so post away your insults and get the last word if it makes you feel better, at the end of the day you are nothing more than a complete waste of space to this forum. All you ever do is post on Scott Harrison threads, and all your posts ever do is try to start trouble. How sad.
