Brant looked like a shell. It could have been stopped earlier. Brant failed to throw back, failed to tie up, failed to move.

Final punch stats

Code: Select all

Fighter Total Jabs Power
Brant 42 of 143 (29%) 6 of 44 (14%) 36 of 99 (36%)
Murata 98 of 211 (46%) 5 of 38 (18%) 93 of 173 (54%)
Of Murata's 98 connects, an astonishing 95 were power shots (meaning anything other than a jab). He landed 64 of them in a near-historic second round. That is the most power punches landed in a single middleweight round in CompuBox's 34 years or tracking fights.

Anybody knows what PED testing they were doing for this fight and if it was different from the first fight?

You reckon Murata took something?

Agree, he looked spent in the end of the 1st round. Looked pretty drained.

Wonder how Brant could've performed SO badly after damn near shutting out Murata the 1st time. Maybe he overtrained? Tough loss for him. Good for Murata though. I'm sure the Japanese fans are over the moon about it.

Wow! I'm surprised at the result. What a turnaround.

Brant looked poor vs Breahmer so maybe the trip took something from him. He's been in Japan for a long time though, like 2 weeks

Yeah, quite surprising. The stoppage seemed a bit early though.

Brant was just taking incoming. He went a score of seconds between thrown punches.

He looked drained. Maybe he just got caught and could not satisfactorily recover. Maybe he ate some bad sushi. :maybe:

You reckon Murata took something?
Such a drastic change in a short period could involve Murata taking something or Brant not taking something he took before.

Could also be home comfort, fighting based on being the ubders-dog/with pressure, and about a dozen other things...and that's ignoring the fact Murata didn't win the opening round here, and it could just simply be a case of catching a guy and not letting him recover

Or it could be that Brant isn't as good as he looked the first time. And Murata is nowhere near as bad as he looked back then.

Let's not forget that Murata was a heavy favorite in Las Vegas. Brant was not that highly regarded and he returned to his real level today.

Just watched the fight. Shocking result. Maybe Murata just had a bad night the first time around?

This result just washed away Brant's great performance that night. It was an Ippesque match

It seemed like Brant just got completely overwhelmed early. Murata did not allow Brant to set the pace.

He did pretty much admit to not wanting to fight Brant and wanted a bigger name opponent, so could well be a case of over looking him
