I think he's gonna be more like a Rahman than a Douglas. He'll only have the one marquee win to hang his hat on, but he may hang around a while and lose to several big names instead of just one more big fight, and gone.

Also there has been a lot of sparring, you don't go through all that if you really don't want to improve

Good point. It's all there for him even in defeat. Just depends on what he wants to do. He has a nice retirement egg from this fight already.

No. That coming in heavy is a mind game.

AJ has lost 10lbs, and in reality, Ruiz Jr. has only really gained 10lbs (because the Mexican’s clothes and Sombrero must weigh at least 5lbs).

So we’re basically left with two questions:

• Now that AJ has shifted some muscle, will it adversely affect his punching power and punch resistance?

• Now that Ruiz Jr. might have gained some fat, will it adversely affect his footwork and cardio?

As long as an individual trains correctly, it’s fairly obvious that gaining fat is less detrimental to general athleticism than losing muscle.

And let's not get carried away and become obsessed with weight, because we’re talking about heavyweight fighters here, where 10lbs gain or loss isn’t going to have a huge impact on their performance levels inside the ring.

We’re talking about boxing, not bodybuilding! And Andy Ruiz Jr. has always been morbidly obese, but he’s never been a Butterbean novelty act, because the man can fight.

please look up 'morbidly obese', doesn't apply to ruiz whatsoever.

Douglas achieved one great victory and had also gained several decent (or "worthy") scalps. Most heavyweights competing today would be flattered to be compared to James ‘Buster’ Douglas, since most of their resumes' are nowehere near as good as his.

You could argue that Ruiz Jr. has already beaten two world-champions, with his loss against Joseph Parker on the Kiwi's home turf being considered highly contentious. Whether he’s capable of more notable victories, only time will tell.
