So you are saying AJ should spend the few short months leading to the rematch working on his firepower?
I say that would be foolish and a waste of precious time.
He dropped a guy who had never been dropped before with the first and only meaningful punch he landed that Ruiz didn't see coming. That does not suggest a firepower problem. Quite the opposite.
I said that he has to overcome the psychological effect of what happened in the 3rd round. He caught TFKoB with a helluva lot more than one “meaningful punch.” AJ has stopped opponents like Povetkin with less.
He is absolutely doubting his ability to hurt The Fat King of Boxing at this time.
Furthermore, AJ generally does his damage with thudding howitzers that do damage seen or not. The new King of the Boxing Hill is the one with the surprise attacks, which is another facet of AJ’s current psychological hurdles.

I agree. I've been saying that his biggest hurdle will be the psychological effect. Ruiz walked through a perfect straight right after being knocked down and put AJ to the canvass.

he did drop ruiz pretty good without really landing much, ruiz took that good right but was just on his ass seconds before, not seriously hurt but defo hurt. i think he waited on a knee for a bit and looked up to the ref while down, watching the count. the sign of a guy who is in control of himself but defo felt it

yeah his eyes and his legs were fine it seemed to me even though it was a decent shot pretty much bang on the jaw

I reckon he needs to drop some weight, work on his stamina and take the fight to Ruiz using his longer reach and utilise the uppercut more. If he fights the same way he is likely to lose again.

Call in Lennox Lewis to teach him how to use his jab and know when to attack and when not to attack, dont throw single jabs and single right hands to the body,he is 6,6 and ruiz is 6,2 there shouldnt be any reason to go that low to the body. Use his strengths dont go into the danger area where Ruiz has the upper hand.

I R ember David Price calling in Lewis. Lewis was super talented, but you can't teach talent.

Ye i remember that mate, didnt he call him in as a trainer tho? I would have him teaching AJ how to use the jab rather than training him. AJ should be able to control a fight just by his jab being 6,6,similar to W. Klitschko used to do

I think AJ can already do that, he just needs not to get caught! After round 3 he was all over the shop.
I don't think he should be afraid to close the distance in taking a step forward to tie Ruiz up either then he misses with the jab.

I don't think Lewis can be bothered with the hassle of training someone full time.

That would be suicide by boredom.

I think so too. He came in light against Parker, was able to control range, was fit enough to keep it up, and had a friendly ref who kept Parker from coming in close. The perfect combination for a boring points decision.

Find an engine from somewhere, see if he can fight in a head guard, stop asking rob McCracken “what punches will work”
