Let me translate the above from Kathy at Main Events: "Instead of letting Kovalev make life changing money by fighting the biggest star in boxing coming up two weight classes we'll instead insist on doing PPV's like we had when two of them were botched with RocNation against Andre Ward. Remember Kovalev not making much money for the Ward rematch because we were on a revenue split? We obviously don't! This way Kovalev, who was just knocked out two fights ago, can continue making a fraction of the money he would have gotten for Canelo by fighting other light heavyweights that are younger power punchers. What could possibly go wrong?!"

When you're not a draw yourself and you're offered multi millions to fight Canelo YOU TAKE IT.

No matter what the offer was I'm sure it is still 5 times what he can make against anyone else

Evidently it was well less than half of what Jacobs received. Close to the same money for yarde. Dazn has these guaranteed loss contracts with the a sides, the b sides are going to mainly be mismatches. Tough break for canelo, he would stop kovalev.

I'm not sure if he would, but it's not out of the question. If Kovalev fought him with the attitude of "he's the smaller man, I'm gonna knock him out" then yeah he might get stopped.

Kovalev would actually be better off to be fearful of him, and try to outbox him like he did Eleider in the rematch.

... Or Hopkins or Ward in their first fight.

Both Kovalev and Andrade "offers" are PR campaign. There is no time left to promote a big fight. Instead, Canelo will fight a no hopper like Munguia or somebody on or below that level.

not quite sure of that, if it really is significantly less then half of what jacobs got. kovs got a high enough standing in the sport to at least try for more if canelo does actually really want to fight him

This.

Munguia may be next for Canelo.

Munguia would be a blowout for canelo I think he should fight Andrade for undisputed or smith if kovalev and ggg can’t be made

As some people said there is not enough time to properly promote a big fight for Canelo. Also Munguia may want to cash in based on how he looked in his last fight. Probably Munguia would last a little bit longer than Liam Smith against Canelo. Also it would be like a soft touch-fight for Canelo after he fought Jacobs. Just like he fought Fielding after GGG.

Time is tissue for Canelo’s September opponent. Whoever it may be, am sure is already training. A good boxer will always be training between fights and keeping their weight healthy. No need to wait for the next fight to be announced.

It's not ppv anymore. 9 weeks is more than enough time for promotion.

Why in the world would anyone consider "cashing in" a 22 year old unbeaten world champion?

It's a huge money fight for Munguia. A chance for superstar status if he upsets the Face of Boxing.

And a defeat? It would be expected. Wouldn't harm the kid in the least. Plenty time to bounce back. Losing to a top P4P champion is hardly going to do any lasting damage. Just a learning experience.

It's a no-brainer for Munguia to take this fight. The world would watch 2 Mexican stars clash on that country's Independence Day. It can only help his career.

It sounds like DAZN is letting Canelo know who is the boss now (remove underscore between boxing and scene):

https://www.boxing_scene.com/dazn-narrows-field-canelo-914-opponent-selection--140666
With less than three months to market the targeted September 14 fight date, the team who inked Alvarez to a record-breaking multi-million dollar contract has now limited the field to acceptable next opponents—Golovkin or light heavyweight titlist Sergey Kovalev.

Now let's see what Oscar has to say. This could be interesting

why not callum smith, not known enough in us?

also, presumably if canelo doesnt want to ever fight ggg again like rumored, and its just kov, theyd up the offer to him. ppl were trashing kov earlier for not accepting well less then half what dj got

It'll probably be Andrade. Munguia is a dark horse to get the call.

Kovalev looks set for Yarde in August.

And GBP has no intention of appeasing drama queen Golovkin. His childish, greed-fillled behavior last year and subsequent loss of the title means he's hardly in the driver's seat.

GBP will see to it that there are consequences for Golovkin's ongoing petulance and prima donna antics.

When push comes to shove with DAZN, Canelo's $365 million contract and recognition as the Face of Boxing easily trumps anything Golovkin can bring to the table.

i dont really understanad that point, how would canelos 365 contract point toward it not being ggg? if anything it would suggest dazn want the biggest fights to happen for canelo on dazn, and gggs far bigger then andrade still

Because when you pay a guy that much money, he's your star.

And just like in any other profession, you don't want to antagonize your star. You don't issue ultimatums.

Because down the road, that star might walk if he's dissatisfied by the bosses demands. Or even suggestions.

There's truth to that cliche: It's good to be the King.

Well, GBP is not calling the shots anymore. If Canelo wants to get money from DAZN, he will have to fight one of the two Russians (excuse my geography).

you pay someone that much because you want something big out of them, its business not charity

gggs still bigger fight then a guy like andrade, and apparently dazn barely even have andrade in the mix, its ggg or kov

canelo has plenty of reason to take there orders, they pay him huge and have him on contract, with backers far more powerful then him and oscar
