Lol they claim the Katie Taylor fight is the ‘second highest pre sales in MSG ever’ - what was the first and what does that even mean anyway?
Sounds like BS - the article is from Feb 8th but I can’t believe that this awful bill has broken any records at MSG

  • This fight is bigger than AJ/Klitschko in terms of eyeballs according to Eddie.

The Liam Smith/Vargas fight would headline any show they would do in any arena.

MSG will sell out (it's sold well at very cheap prices but there are thousands of tickets still available including plenty of whole rows at ringside and lower bowl)

It's an incredible card top to bottom.
All from Eddie's mouth in the ifl interview including the pleas for people to get DAZN.

By the way, Smith/Vargas should be a really decent fight and am looking forward to it. And the Taylor/Serrano fight is a great step forward for women's boxing and could well be good to watch (I have v little interest). But don't insult people's intelligence or pretend anything other than the fact that barely anyone in the UK knows anything about what is happening on Saturday or who Katie Taylor is.

It’s typical promotional talk. Trying to make the fight/show sound much bigger than it is.

Re: the tickets, the bulk of the bowl is sold out (I’d guess around 100 left). It’s the cheap seats in the top tier they’ve added that they’ll struggle with now. I’d imagine they’d close off a couple of parts to then claim a sell out. It’s amazing the disparity in ticket prices $31 to $2,000.

I cant remember how much press AJ/Ruiz got in the US but if the poor US DAZN viewer numbers are to be believed then perhaps it didn’t get much. Ruiz was known in the States but hardly a big name. I’d imagine, in the current woke climate we’re in, non-traditional sports broadcasters/reporters will want to cover the Taylor/Serrano fight. They were on a fairly big non-sports morning show pushing the fight yesterday and are being pushed by WWE too a fair bit on Twitter. I think I remember AJ being on the sports channels (pretty sure he was on ESPN) but don’t remember him being on much outside of that.

Clearly though in the U.K. the AJ fight was far far bigger with the general public and also in terms of coverage.

It’s something they’ve done in pro wrestling in the US for decades - call it a sell out even when an arena is only 70% full because they either don’t make areas of seating available because the demand isn’t there or a few hours before the show they close off certain areas of seating.

I’d guess they’ve done 13,000 or so based on the seating map. Still amazing for a women’s fight and it seems the walk up at US sports is a lot bigger than over here.

He's a big global star though Mickey......

Outside of Fury, Warrington and Joshua, with Eubank, Taylor, Whyte and Brook to a less consistent degree, is there anyone else on their own who could pull a really big crowd these days? Really needs to be a big fight or a packed undercard doesn't there?

Taylor vs Serrano is fine by me. Especially with Smith Vargas.
Yes, it’s women’s - and stoopid 2 min rounds - but get over it.
It’s a good fight and a good card.

Yeah he randomly seemed to get annoyed. Perhaps he couldn't understand Smith's kind remarks and simply assumed Beefy was being rude. It was very unseemly for a weigh in.

I agree, I think he (Beefy) gets the stoppage. Though I won't guess the round as I'm terrible at that. Round 10.

Vargas said he knows he’s hurt someone when they smile, Beef usually smiles cos he just loves fighting. From what I’ve seen, Smith KO6-9. He’s right under his skin.
