They pretty much split the rounds and what rounds Ward did win weren't by outboxing, they were through getting inside and being physical, going to the body and roughhousing. He took this approach precisely because when he boxed Kov at a distance he had lost most of the rounds and got dropped in the first half of their fight. He adapted and so credit for that.

Hey, fair play if you though Ward won both fights, that to me isn't the issue, but saying he comprehensively outboxed Kovalev isn't true in terms of the competitiveness or how Ward won the fights.

Ward was more of a strong, physical bully than a slick technical boxer. People who loved him just lump him into the latter a lot of the time because he wasn't a puncher and usually won decisions, and even people who don't like him often compare him to guys with totally different styles. A lot of people are lazy when it comes to assessing him.
I had him winning by a point in a fight that he was down 20-17 going into the 3rd. In the second fight, it was Kovalev won 2 or 3 rounds, close.

Doing the math, without looking back at my cards, that is 12-6 or 13-5 in the 18 rounds after round 2 of the first fight, capped with a stoppage. If you get your panties bunched at the word comprehensive being utilized with that type of domination, fine. Call it close (although it wasn’t). Blame it on judges, refs, fouls, whatever.

Ward kicked Kovalev’s ass comprehensively in that 18 rounds, imo.
If anyone’s getting their panties in a bunch about this, it’s you. Not our problem you don’t have functioning eyes.

So you had Ward winning the first fight by a single point, then can see the second being only a 1 point fight till the end. That doesn't really seem anything close to comprehensive 18 rounds of outboxing or whooping. And btw that would equate to you being able to see 8 of 18 rounds for Kov, so 10-8 and not 13-5. My panties aren't really bunched btw, I can see the case for the Ward wins. Clearly you are super emotional about Ward-Kov as has ongoing been shown.

You asked for my score from the first fight. I said I'd have to watch it again, but I know I had it close for Ward. Just saying.

So you are #TeamWard!! USA USA! Now you need to start fighting with people from #TeamKov RUSSIA RUSSIA :yay:

I had Kov winning the first fight 115-112, but can see the close rounds that could swing it.

Technically, he was as close to being comprehensively ruined by Ward as it can get. To his credit, he has rebounded magnificently.

I guess it’s because folks just love this convenient ‘bull vs matador’ storyline. Except kovalev actually had the better skills. Lol

I knew who you were aiming at. There were a couple of rounds that were razor close. I had the second fight pretty close too. Maybe even Kov even or slightly ahead at the time of the stoppage.

Not at all. Just my opinion.

According to many, Ward deserves no credit for anything of note that he did in his entire career. Those are the people who have been stirred, since he busted up Kessler. :OhYes:

He deserves credit mate, great fighter with a top notch resume, but people can think it was a close pairing without having their panties bunched because they didn't see Ward dominating it

I certainly wouldn't be among those who give him NO credit. I rate him as possibly the all time best Super Middleweight or at least 1a with the possible tie being with Calzaghe, I acknowledge all of his other victories as being controversy free in my view.

I never got on board any of the hubbub about the Kessler fight. That was just business as usual to me.

I call 'em like I see 'em. The Ward-Kovalev fights are both tainted.

kovalev would've got the decision if fairly judged in first fight vs. ward.

ward vs. kovalev 2 is one of the stand out examples of total corruption of the sport.

still find it crazy how obvious the shit was they pulled off, not giving a fvck about the fact that everyone with an ounce of brain is aware of the corruption.

That was the whole point. Ward dominated post the 2nd round KD. I did not say that he dominated that fight.

The second fight was relatively close, except for the fact that Ward made him quit. Kovalev was done. The ref should have given him five minutes to continue lobbying for a DQ, but the Russian wanted no more of Ward. If it would have continued, Kovalev would have been even more comprehensively crushed.

Whatever.

The first fight was very close. It could have gone either way but my card happened to agree with the judges.

The second fight Kovalev talked a heap of trash, including classic Russian style bigoted arrogance about how he was going to finish the job. The job got finished alright. Ward finished it.

Funny thing is even if that fight was close, which I don't think it was, Ward has fought with a bad shoulder most of his career so he practically beat Froch with one hand. Very impressive even if he had to be dirty to do it.

I can appreciate people who didn't enjoy his style BUT calling it cheating is sour sour grapes.

You don't win an olympic gold against the best crop of amateurs by being a cheat personally felt Ward was never appreciate enough for his accomplishments!
