Ya that's fair, but I agree with the guy about the punch stats, of course Floyd landed more, but I don't think either landed as much as reported

148-81 sounds more like total punches thrown....maybe with a few extras counted

I want to preface this by saying I thought at the time and still do that Mayweather won overall, he landed the cleaner (definitely more eye-catching punches), and controlled space and had the better defence.

BUT to be fair the punch stars were extremely controversial.

Here are the stats from a breakdown of the fight by the daily mail website in the UK.



Pacquiao landed a hell of a lot of punches around or through Mayweathers guard. In response Mayweather would then shake his head to suggest nothing got through. Gamesmanship...
But at the same time Pacquiao quite often was reaching to connect, whilst Mayweather had his feet set and would punch through the target.

Having said that, as can be seen above Mayweather was outlanded by wide margins in a number of rounds. But again in the tight rounds I think it goes to Mayweather by looking at other factors such as ring generalship, effective aggression, and superior defence.

The punch stats as counted in the heat of the night are profoundly suspect (one US commentator who had Pacquaio winning asked if they were compiled by ‘kids from the HBO and Showtime offices’ and was told ‘Yes.’)

But on your final point - whilst I recognize you are perhaps being conciliatory - if you compare compubox to those stats above (and others compiled after the fact) it looks more like the HBO/Compubox guys were eager to count Mayweather's shots whilst discounting Pacquiao's

And Pac lost, move on.

Ruiz lost to a guy who lost wide to AJ but then he beat AJ. A loss don't mean you can't beat guys better than the guy who beat you. We have seen tons of fighters take losses but then rebound at the same or even a higher level. Josh has some serious fire power and could still pull out a win over anyone though ya hard to rank him still at the top for the moment. Let's see how he does next week and go from there.
