Getting KO’d within 4-5 rounds is safer than taking 10-12 beatings.

The Povetkin KO was horrific.

I was ringside and I feared the worst for a few seconds.
I’m happy for him to stay at domestic level. He’s a nice guy.

It’s on him when he wants to retire. He may well pay for it in later life but then again he may not (see Jake LaMotta and countless others whose later lives were not really affected by such punishing careers). End of the day it’s his choice to make. He has dedicated his whole life to this sport and still carries undeniable power. Stranger things have happened in this sport than Big Pricey going on a run. He’s a level above Dave Allen for a f**king start and Allen is no mug so who are we to say he should knock it on the head?

Good luck to the man. He’s a cracking lad and if there’s any justice there’s an Indian Summer in this for him.

I'd say a Helenius v Price match would be 90 - 10. Helenius has world class power and is far tougher than Price. No contest and a big KO ending.

There must be a few durable plodders knocking about in europe that Price can navigate to steer him towards a Euro shot.

Aye Helenius would smash Price imo. Good luck to Pricey but he looks done to me. He’s entitled to make his own mind up but he I wouldn’t give him much of a prayer of winning at British level now far in less any better

I saw an interview where Helenius was talking about Price vs Teper. He was saying that Price is a lot better than that. I get the feeling he respects Price enough to formulate a good gameplan to beat him. He's also tougher than Price by miles. He did put in a shocker vs Whyte though. He came to stink the joint out that night and got done by Washington of all people. Good win over Kownocki last time out

He took the Whyte fight on 2 weeks notice he apologised on Social media for his poor performance he needed the money so took it despite being in poor shape.

He was buzzing Whyte early but then just pulled down his shorts and decided to turn the fight into diaherria. Still, I can't imagine Price going the distance with Whyte no matter what approach

He needs a confidence builder. Throwing him straight in against someone half decent is not the way to go.

Someone mentioned rematch with Ali that could work it would sell.

What about Nick Webb, obviously stopped by Allen but won that tournament and just as KTFO prone as Pricey

That's a good English title fight. I think both could do with either a win over undemanding opposition to polish up the match.

I wouldn't personally like to see the Kash Ali rematch after Ali's behaviour last time when the going got too tough for him.

Medically it is. Price took that huge shot and he became unconscious which is the body’s safety mechanism. He took no more punches after that so his brain could recover. Someone like whyte or chisora on the other hand will take that same shot again and again with their brain rattling for 12 rounds, smashing constantly against the skull. That’s what causes long term damage

I tend to think it's the long hard battles that are more harmful, but the Povetkin knockout looked very unhealthy at the time.

Feared the worst at the time.
Usually agree with the long battles but he must surely of suffered some damage from the Povetkin one.

This gets banded around but is it really true? I don't necessarily think it's safer to take a one punch KO than a sustained beating. When Price gets flattened the part of his brainstem that is responsible for consciousness shut off due to his brain moving violently in his skull. He's concussed, losing brain cells and circuits and so on. A fighter who has a good chin and absorbs shots like Eubank Sr for example might not be having the same violent movement of the brain in his skull. I think a lot of it comes down to genetics. I'm not a doctor though.

Due to no two human beings being absolutely 100% identical, there will always be anomalies to the science, but if you think of the injuries to boxer's brains and very sadly, deaths, I'm sure they have arisen after tough fights that have tended to last until the later rounds.

I can't think of many instances when an early'ish KO, no matter how violent it appears, resulted in serious injury ?? Not saying it hasn't happened or can't happen, but the balance I'd suggest is very much towards the longer tougher fights & also where weight making is involved (but not exclusively). Good grief, I've put a lot in caveats in there
