There's a reason Moore was the favourite at the time and no-one was talking about him making a massive step up in class. The Duran you're referring to was coming off the back of recent losses to Benitez and Laing, and a couple of underwhelming wins, as well as fighting above his natural weight and being urged to retire by many. If you follow your logic of looking at level and class as being fixed, you could throw so many in here as to make it meaningless - you'd talk about Spinks beating Ali, McBride beating Tyson etc.

You are right and you beat me to putting Spinks-Ali 1 here. Just like no one in Spinks' record was in Ali's (previous at least) class and no one in McBride's record was in Tyson's p;revious class either.
I do agree with your point however, that obviously by then in Ali's and Tyson's case they were nowhere near who they used to be thus they were of a somewhat lowered status then..

Lennox Lewis v Gary Mason.
Mason was 35-0, ranked in the top 5 of the WBC.
Lewis 14-0 and beating the standard trial horses.
Lennox Lewis v Razor Ruddock.
Ruddock was being portrayed as the dangerman of the division based on his 2 scraps (albeit losses) with Iron Mike.
It's one of my most favourite performances ever. Punch perfect, Lewis had absolutely no doubt about what he was going to do.
Mason was 35-0, ranked in the top 5 of the WBC.

Fielding had no chance against Canelo but I would imagine it was life changing money. You roll the dice, take your lumps and cash the big cheque.
The Welborn one is a mystery though. Not only did he have no business mixing it at that level, but apparently he was paid poorly for the privilege.
