That’s a very quick turnaround for the rescheduled date, because the media are reporting that Povetkin has been hospitalised.

They're saying he was literally rushed to hospital due to the severity of his symptoms.

Oh well, if that's the new date they're working to, then perhaps Povetkin isn't a ill as the media articles I've been reading.

They can always postpone again.. many will say this works well in Whyte’s favour as he was taking the rematch too soon after the KO loss.

It's shocking that even in today's cyber-speed world all that we know, many hours later, is that Povetkin has been hospitalised.

Then where, and how severe are his symptoms?

If it is true, and not just another Eddie Hearn Matchroom stunt, then Povetkin may not be returning to the ring in the forseable future.

You cannot box at this level with even slight residual lung damage that a stay in hospital would suggest.

If, on the other hand, it's just another Hearn stunt to see if he can eke out a few more safe dollars before he lines up Whyte against the winner of next summer's big one (Joshua v Fury), then it looks like Hearn has been rubbing shoulders with his US counterparts a little too much both for his, and certainly our good.

Pov looked pretty shot out against Whyte. Punch drunk from the get go, and his legs were gone. He could fight mid-level guys, make a good gatekeeper for the top ten of the division for a few years. I’d hate to see him reduced to that and take the beatings from the young guys he would.

Eddie Hearn has openly conceded that Dillian Whyte isn’t going to receive his long-overdue world title shot until mid-2022.

So the Brit will need opponents to face during the interim.

Therefore, I’d expect Povetkin to engage in a couple of stay-busy bouts as part of a reputation rebuilding exercise, possibly appearing on Matchroom fight cards, with a view to marketing/justifying the third bout of the Whyte trilogy.

Povetkin is still very dangerous, at least against fringe contenders.

It’s likely that he’s still good enough to beat Dereck Chisora, Charles Martin, Zhilei Zhang, Robert Helenius and Gerald Washington.

And there’s even a possibility that there’s enough remaining in the Russian’s tank to beat the likes of Kubrat Pulev and Luis Ortiz, since they’re around his age group.

I do feel that Dillian Whyte is likely to engage in at least one more dangerous marquee bout before he faces the winner of Joshua-Fury, perhaps towards the tail end of 2021 (against Wilder or Ruiz Jr.), but this will be sandwiched by two stay-busy bouts, with the concluding chapter of the Povetkin trilogy being one of them (sometime during the first quarter of 2022?).

I hope he retires now.

Povetkin may still have a few noteworthy fights in him, that being said if he's saved his money he should probably go on and hang 'em up. You gotta stop sometime, and I'm sure his biggest achievements have come and gone by now. He's had a solid career.

being 41 and with 2x covid hospitalizations, coming off 3kds in his last 2 fights......call it a day man, very solid career

Sure he made in region of £5m for fighting AJ, £5m for fighting Wlad and around £3m per fight against Whyte.

If he wants to fight on it should be as the A side of the card in Russia as a couple of swan song fights.

No desire to see him in with the top guys again.

He wobbled from the first Whyte's good shot and was wobbling around all night long. Chisora will overwhelm the current Povetkin. Helenius will KO him early on too. I won't pick Povetkin over Martin and Zhang either. Maybe he can handle soft and hesitant Washington, but not someone threatening.

Povetkin is shot. Of course, he can earn some money for being a gatekeeper now, but he'll spend them on doctors, if he tries to continue his career. He's a nearly 42 year old man with post-covid syndrome, whose chin is gone. He must retire to save his heath.

Povetkin won Olympic gold in 2004. He had a long and successful career, he should retire now.

I definitely would like to see him retire. He’s had a great career and goes down as a fighter who always came to fight in addition to having an absolutely brutal KO highlight reel.

I'll miss him when he retires. He has been a real warrior not frightened to face anyone. There are too many highly ranked heavyweights you cannot say that about.

He has a good resume.. One of the best for a non-world champion.. Fought everyone.. and mostly in their primes (near)..

Far enough, he held the Regular belt, for me, holding that belt, just means you're mandatory to the true champion.

Fought everyone willing to fight him that is. I'd love to have seen him fight Pulev, Ortiz, Ruiz, Parker or Wilder. What a fight that would have been, Wilder v Povetkin back when it was scheduled to happen.

well, he is going into a full on, pages of posts back and forth with some other dood about how ortiz is a far superior fighter and has the superior accomplishments, so i dont think so
