'Enjoyed' that article, thanks for posting. I remember this period in British Boxing and watching Gomez progress. Of course it is sad to hear his affliction now ; most likely a combination of lifestyle factors and punches to the head while not being 'fit' (by his own admission' - hope things turn out as well as can be for him.

I don't see how you can box and not have at least some damage.
You are regularly get punched in the head by folk who are experts at punching in the head!
Add on to that your hands and back

Boxing certainly is not good for the brain; anything which results in your brain hitting the inside of your skull at force is not good.
Add to that alcohol which is toxic to the brain - and heavy use well known as causing atrophy, the frontal lobes really absorb the damage.
As part of my job I regularly see the consequences of frontal lobe injuries. It's a terrible thing.

Is his son still boxing?
He last had a fight just before the coronavirus started.
Having said that, despite 6 years as a pro he has been matched very carefully.
I don’t think he’s with Denzil Browne since he got out. Then again, Denzil Jr is still in jail. He’s got another son turning over soon so maybe he’ll be back.
Young Gomez is back with Denzil and Denzil’s son Levi who is turning over.

Gomez Vs Arthur is another fight where the ref should of stopped it 3 times but doesn't because of the home fighter is the one being hurt
