Turpin beating the previously almost invincible SRR.

Think Sugar Ray was 132-1 at the time of that loss.. :o

And yes, Lewis was fully expected to beat a Tyson-worn Razor Ruddock, just not so early!

I rate AJ’s stoppage of WKlit over Fury’s decision. Both big though.

Fury win v Klitchsko

These are the best wins by brits in this century so far for me, both decisions away from home,
Against 43 year olds.
43 year olds who still possesed elite skillsets and had accumulated bags of championship experience. I think both Hopkins and Klitchsko were tougher to beat in their early forties than in their twenties and thirties, they both became better with age.

43 year olds who had fitness levels of men young enough to be their kids.

The age debate can be funny sometimes, Hopkins went through most of his career beating blokes a lot younger than him, but the moment he loses it's "oh well he's 40 odd" though being 40 odd was never a problem in all the fights he won.

I don't think Wlad was even 40 when Tyson beat him. Joe Joyce is 36 and considered a prospect.

He wouldn’t be considered a prospect in 1981 or 1991

He wouldn’t be anywhere

I don't recall any Olympic silver medallists in 80 or 88?

Bowe was an olympic silver medalist in 1988

What criteria are we looking at here, though? To me, important factors are:

- winning in the other fighter's back yard
- winning when no-one gave the Brit much of a chance
- beating an apparently undefeatable champion / legend
- possibly getting off the floor to win
- winning by stoppage

On that basis:

Honeyghan-Curry must be up there - no-one was talking beforehand about Curry struggling at the weight - rather, he was going to choose to move up through the weights and reign at middleweight.

Laing-Duran - given Duran's status, one British reporter criticised the fight as he feared Laing might die. No one at all was picking him to win. The "Duran was out of shape" talk is pure hindsight, and ignores the fact that Duran was well over his championship weights for plenty of his non-title fights, and he had plenty of them. No-one had done to him what Laing did. Laing made people realise what was possible.

Stracey-Napoles - people can argue that Napoles was fading, but Stracey still did it overseas, by stoppage, dragging himself off the floor in round 1.

Turpin-Robinson I is also clearly up there given Robinson's status at the time. Had Turpin won the rematch in the US, that would have been the undoubted no. 1. Much as Terry Downes was a great fighter, his win was over a much more shopworn Robinson.

Fury-Klitschko and Fury-Wilder II plainly both rank very highly too. To me, the second Wilder fight is Fury's best given the manner of the performance.

Oddly, given that I like Lennox Lewis as a person and a human being, I find it hard to assess his wins in the US because it sort of feels like he's partly North American so it's not so much of an against-the-odds, crossing-the-pond away fixture for him but a bit of a trip down the road.

Several of Froch's wins would definitely make a British top 40, but hard to see one in the top 10. Ditto with Calzaghe.

And 80 Games were boycotted. A 20 year old Bowe won silver. Not that that’s pro boxing - a completely seperate sport.
