In terms of money generated - then yes Fury v Joshua would prob be the biggest fight in UK boxing history.

In terms of UK public awareness and anticipation - i very much doubt it. Lennox v Bruno would have been bigger .. and probably a couple of Nigel Benn fights too.

Boxing is not as mainstream as back in the day; Fury and Joshua are a victim of that.

It was for a title unrecognised at the time. This is the undisputed heavyweight championship of the world. They're not even on the same planet.

Lewis-Bruno got nowhere near even selling out.

Its a question of what you feel is the factor making it the biggest fight in UK boxing history.

Me personally I`d identify what gained the biggest UK public interest - in which case there was far more public interest and anticipation of Benn v Eubank.
Back in the day huge numbers were tuning in for the Saturday night fights. That unfortunately shows my age .. it was probably 25 years since then.

Surlely Eubank Benn 2 was bigger than the 1st?

IMO Fury AJ is bigger than Bruno Lewis, both bring a belt to the table, well all the belts and this would be for the lineal/undisputed championship.

Don’t get me wrong Benn Eubank (both fights) were massive but the big boys are always more attractive and generate more interest so that just pips it for me (and I do prefer Eubank/Benn over Fury and AJ as personalities and boxers).

I do agree about the ITV comment though, the general public did have more interest back in the day

What other all British fights would you class as massive:-

Bruno Lewis
Froch Groves 2
Eubank/Benn/Watson
AJ Fury
Watt Buchanan

Any more .............

Benn v Eubank 2 was massive. Far bigger than the first fight.

Lewis v Bruno was also gigantic in terms of the national interest.

All before social media too.

Haye/Chisora

Going back further, I’ve read that Mills vs Harvey was a huge deal at the time (30k at White Heart Lane)

Ive been following boxing since the late 70s and the biggest fights in the uk in terms of national interest etc were

Bruno -Witherspoon
Mcguigan - Pedroza
Benn - Eubank 2

None of the others come close.. Bruno - Lewis i remember was only half full and Benn vs embank 1 wasn't really that big of a deal as eubank was unknown on the street at the time and benn had lost to watson. the second fight was absolutely enormous though.

This fight would defo have sat with the three i mention. Huge interest praying aj beats u and fury beats wilder.Wilder is a total twat btw not taking step aside money.

And before box office. Neither sold out. Getting a ticket for Fury-AJ would be like pulling teeth. Bruno-Witherspoon didn't even nearly half fill Wembley. Watt-Buchannan was on a dinner show!

So? It wasn’t a big thing to go to a boxing match back then - there was no O2 arena or new Wembley Stadium, no giant screens, and finding out how to even buy a ticket was too much hassle. Just watch it on telly like (literally) everyone else.

We’ll never see anything remotely close to those days again. And certainly hadn’t previously.

It was a peak or zenith
