John Wischhusen will be the new head of boxing on Sky and will have the ability to pick and choose which shows they take and promoters they work with.

Not sure what that means for Adam Smith - perhaps he’ll be kept on as purely on air talent (

).

Will be interesting to see which promoters get the first few slots. Several of those you might think would be looking for it (Hobson, Wood) have FightZone now, Mick is tied in with ch5, Wasserman are yet to make waves other than signing Eubank Jr and not sure if they’ll be wanting to do shows with the obvious answer - MTK.

It would be awesome to see Smith get his marching orders. I suspect the redundancy payment may be too big for Sky however... so Smith will be wheeled out for lower darts games whilst Andy gets the big showdowns. Kind of ironic in so many ways....

I’d never find pleasure in someone losing their job. He’s certainly not the best commentator but there have been several worse over the years.

He’s in a tricky position. Given that Eddie put all of the cards together and there was no quality control from Sky (as seen by a lack of replacement for the Harper fight that was meant to headline their recent show) so I’m not quite sure what he did. Saying that, he could be telling his bosses that’s he’s overseen a period of boxing booming with the most of the biggest PPVs happening in recent years and shows moving from leisure centres to arenas and football stadiums. Sounds good on a CV.

He seems like a company man so maybe he’ll become the head of Netball and then just be parachuted in for the boxing as a commentator.

I dont mind Bean as a presenter, he's a boxing man so i wouldn't mind if Sky kept him on doing that

That actually sounds like more cuts to budget from Sky again like all other sports as well. The odd token show with mainly PPV thrown in.

Boxing makes Sky money but the lack of investment back is sub-standard.

I’d never find pleasure in someone losing their job.

Myself and 3 other mates have decided to book a holiday when Smith gets his marching orders or retires. We are all in 100% so it's definitely happening. We are all going to celebrate in style. It will probably only be a weekend holiday but we will enjoy every moment of it. I am really looking forward to having some pints in a bar and explaining why we are there to a few locals.

I’m not too sure but they’ve got deep pockets. Based on the interviews post with Joe Markovski and Eddie over recent weeks their numbers are (taken with a pinch of salt of course) really strong post Canelo/Billy Joe.

These kind of business models amaze me. Netflix has been cashflow negative only up to this year I think. DAZN losing $1.4bn is serious but they would have forecast heavy losses initially.

As long as the top man keeps bank rolling it and still believe he has vision to eventually make streaming model work (which some say is the future) but who knows on that score.

You could say same for Sky with prices increasing 2-3 times a year who’s going to keep paying £100 plus a month for entire packages.

Sky’s cutting their offering year on year and giving the Sports less monies but increasing now twice a year.

Yeah maybe netball it is. Along with boxing another sport Smith knows nothing about and will growl his way through a match vomiting his preprepared cliches. But yes Smith can make a good case to his bosses financially. In some ways Sky has been awful for boxing and in some ways good. I won't miss them.

Me neither, but I’ll make an exception for that f*cking numbskull - never has anyone deserved losing their job more than Adam Smith. As for tricky position, he’s the idiot who agreed to matchroom exclusivity, putting the fox in the chicken house with zero quality control.

Anyway, I heard on Twitter that he might somehow be keeping his current job under this new boss.. I really hope not, but generally, with IPTV, I dont have to listen to the mook anymore.

Won’t miss Sky Boxing? If Sky had backed out 15 years ago when other channels did then where would we be now? Again, not everything’s been good but they’ve been the only channel to consistently put on shows and promote boxing.

It’s not like the domestic competition have been hammering them either. No shows from BT in May and then one crap one this weekend in June and that’s it to July.

Yes but the landscape is different now. Streaming will explode. I won't need Sky to watch boxing. Amd I won't have to listen to Adam Smith talk about rugged, tough Irish sensation Katie Taylor, tell us what a great advert for womens boxing EVERY women's fight is, and remind us of the respect at the end of every fight.... Morales Barrera..... Tony Bellew's tattoo is in no way insensitive to Ariana Grande concert "Manchester will never forget"... I think I won't miss it

It’ll be interesting how long it takes for fighters to start leaving Matchroom for Sky Sports.

I think the first 3 will be Joshua, Okolie, Buatsi plus anyone else in their management team. That Sky profile & Box Office money will be tempting & Okolie & Buatsi will want what Joshua has now.

So it looks like Sky have done a deal with Top Rank whereby Sky will show all of Top Rank’s US cards (except fighters co promoted by FW) on Sky Sports for the next 4 years.

Good move if true as it’ll mean those who subscribe to Sky will no longer have to pay extra for Fite TV to watch those fights.

Starts this weekend with Shakur Stevenson’s fight apparently.
