Any more than a tenner and I'm dicking this off .
Do the right thing DAZN and keep it sensible .
Everything in the UK has gone up price wise and it's costing substantially more to live here and it ain't high on my essential list .

It won’t go up to more than £4 or £5 initially. This is a total loss leader.

Fight Camp is going to to be brilliant. It’s what follows that will be interesting...

100% .. and we here are boxing fans.
Its really not too difficult to watch the fights on a stream or next day on Youtube.
For me; £10 is reasonable .. £15 is something I would be looking at each month and evaluating; £20 is at least 2 good fight shows a month or quickly getting cancelled ... £25 and above is not even get considered.

They didn’t have many. Haye/Chisora and Billy Joe/Eubank Jr were the only ones that stand out. Also had Clev/Kovalev although that didn’t cross over at all as not many people really knew who Kovalev was beforehand. Were there many other big ones that I’m forgetting about?

They also didn’t do loads of promotion for their channel and whilst they would have sold specific fights to US broadcasters, DAZN has the advantage in that good U.K. shows can still drive subscribers and money outside of the U.K.

I think we used to pay £10 a mth for Noxbation so I’d be prepared to pay something similar for DAZN if we’re getting 2 or 3 good cards each month.

What I don’t want is the insidious creep of women’s boxing spoiling the cards. Let them have their own platform with a separate subscription - we’ll see how that works out for them.

That won’t happen. They’ll continue to be part of Matchroom’s shows which is fine by me aslong as they’re in addition to, not instead of, good make fights.

In fairness some of the better domestic fights of the last 12 months have been women’s.

You get the occasional half interesting fight but let’s be honest it’s circus freak interesting. The talent pool is so shallow as to make genuinely good quality fights an absolute rarity. Adam Smith can compare Katie Taylor to Ray Leonard as much as he wants but it doesn’t make it true.

The majority of the women seem to want to challenge themselves and given the lack of depth end up in title fights quickly. Neither Courtney or Bridges are great or should be fighting for a world title but it was a good well matched fight. As was Harper/Jonas, Taylor/Persoon, Taylor/Jonas. Certainly not circus freak show.

I was more thinking international. Canelo, Floyd, Pac plus near enough every big name of the early 10's. Clev-Bellew 1 on freeview.

Whilst `circus freak show` is a tad strong .. i think the general assumption is correct. I think the vast majority of viewers will initially watch it to see how good they physically look, rather than how skilful they look. I have tried to watch a Katie Taylor fight from start to finish .. and failed each time; its just not interesting me. So if she is as good as womens boxing gets then its a very low bar.

Yeah - they did have loads of big US names on the channel in the first 3-4 years of being on air. They would have outbid Sky for the rights but didn’t have the ability (or potentially money) to market the fights properly.

Yeah - Clev/Bellew 1 was on there but Tony wasn’t that well known then - just a couple of wins against McKenzie (the second being a ‘masterclass’).

They marketed quite well. I think the writing was on the wall when Bill Ives died. He must have spent a fortune on that channel.

I disagree re: marketing. There were c.30,000 at Haye/Chisora and given how hot that fight was and that Haye could shift 20,000 tickets on his own against Ruiz and Audley they should have done more. It was only 2 years later when Eddie/Sky had 80,000 at Wembley.

Literally none of my casual boxing mates subscribed to the channel (although they did go to Haye/Chisora and BJS/Eubank). I just don’t think they did enough to get themselves outside of the traditional boxing bubble hence making losses year after year.

Agree though re: Bill Ives. The allegedly losses were a drop in the ocean for him but wouldn’t be for FW.

The 80,000 fight was hugely marketed by fight one and that is the only reason it ended up there. It was national news.

Yeah it was but Haye/Chisora was big national news when it kicked off in Germany and then had the narrative of not being licensed by the BBBC. It could/should have been bigger than it was. They were set for 40,000 and came 10,000 short and it was in both of theirs home city.

Hearn said just over 30 fight nights a year.

16 of those are uk so with the other markets, looks like Matchrom USA being scaled back?

We’ll see. Like I’ve said I think Fight Camp will be brilliant. After that they are planning only two shows in September (Warrington) and October (Liverpool boys). So let’s judge it all in a years time.

Its a big leap of faith for Eddie. Fwank previously convinced himself b ox n ation was the way forward, but it didn't break out to the casual sports fans, will an app be able to do that, even with all the bells and whistles on ? Stepping away from the undoubted sky platform is a gamble. Suppose the money was too good to turn down and as long as the money tap doesn't get turned off, they should all get very rich trying to take over the sport globally.

an app reaches the fans who use it, whereas the sky platform reached all its customer base, and tapped into that. and the "press the red button to purchase" and the cost being added onto next months's sky direct debit was very convenient. i know dazn is currently two quid but we all know dazn will end up with PPV at some point and am not sure there will be an exodus from sky to dazn.

GGG, given his age, has one foot in retirement, and canelo can't really go on forever. as Fwank found out the hard way, when you are a niche channel you can't create a break out star as the exposure on the way up is too narrow. so yes dazn can throw money at canelo and treat him as a loss leader to bring in boxing fans but will future boxing stars have that mass appeal ?

A lot of casual fans follow Hearn on Facebook, Twitter and IG. You can absolutely tell they are from their comments.

But those same people are probably football or rugby fans way before they are boxing fans. They probably have Sky sub for the football and watch boxing as a bonus.

Will DAZN appeal to them?

Good thing with DAZN app, I have push notifications on my iPhone, to let me know when somethings on, set reminders.

I don’t know if you can do that if it’s an app ok your smart tv.

I think a decent (hypothetical) litmus test would be, could Dazn get six digit PPV sales for Delboy vs whoever. It is arguably more of an achievement than getting into 7 digits for an AJ world title fight. Sky have the platform and the ability to push a relatively meaningless heavyweight fight into PPV success territory, in that he gives a Usyk or Parker a tough scrap over 12 rounds before losing and even if he won nobody would see Delboy (with the greatest of respect to him) as a legit challenger for AJ or Fury. Sky are able to turn a show based on that sort of fight into a PPV success, not sure that Dazn would be able to achieve that. Not that they'd put it onto PPV at this stage but PPV will be a part of their output at some point and they might be hard pressed to get say a couple of hundred thousand UK fans to cough up twenty quid to watch that sort of thing.

I think the other big gamble is the "global" idea matchroom....Having a british prospect on the undercard of Canelo yes might drive subscribers....but when it is someone like Andrade vs his next mandatory, ...its not going to be drive new subscribers.

Then you have matchroom Italy and the like....is a non Italian speaking promoter going to drive a very much minority sport of boxing to sign up for the app in Italy....especially if most of the card doesnt comprise of Italians....likewise is it going to drive uk subscribers if the main event is sone Italian for the EBU title.

Likewise who really is going to watch live boxing at 11 o clock in the morning from Australia from the uk.

I do note that hearn likes to mention how Smith vs Canelo, Campbell vs Garcia and Canelo vs Bjs did well. ...less vocal about Andrade vs Williams

I think the quality is getting slightly better though, no? You still get hideous mismatches, granted, but in general, the more women that box, w should be getting better matchups. The cream should perhaps rise to the top more so with women because maybe it's not about shifting tickets as much?

Miranda Carter used to put womens bouts on her Sunday show, and while they were usually mismatches, as least she had a go. Can't of been easy. I found them very difficult to watch. I didn't like to see women hitting each other. But I've got over that, and Ive actually enjoyed a couple of fights recently - Shannon Courtney v Rachel Ball was a good fight, and Katie Taylor v Natasha Jonas was good too - I was expecting a huge gulf in class, but Jonas did very well.

How many actual current fights are you guys geting a month?
I'm on month 2 of my subscription to DuZN, the NZ version, and there is bugger all happening per month. Maybe 2 shows, the rest is historical matches, some documentary series about a soccer poof, and a chat show I wouldn't give the steam off my piss on a winter's morning.
No small hall stuff either.
Not even sure I will be renewing the subscription next month because even at £1.20 a month, it's barely worth it.

In the U.K. we’re getting the same as I expect you are. Will be worth sticking with it given the 3 Fight Camp shows planned at the end of July/early August.
