Those prices are a bit ambitious to say the least - it's a case of people listing them at silly prices but no-one buying them. The typical price for a second-hand copy on ebay seems to be about £50 or so. I only did a limited print run (1200 copies) which sold out, so they are fairly rare these days. It's kind of appropriate that a book about Kirk should be hard to track down.

I've got one. Probably the most in depth book I've ever read. Even a bit much at times. A casual I lent it to couldn't get through it.

Every bloke remembers Kirkland Laing on Grandstand or Sportsnight with his hands dangling, dreads dangling.

Thanks Mickey. To hear "A casual I lent it to couldn't get through it" is a relief - I would have been positively offended if a casual had enjoyed it :OhYes:

Think there’s been some beef between Bunce and Chris Sr that has left Steve a bit shaken.

According to rumour and innuendo, Sr has been trying to get Steve sacked from the BBC for misinformation or something.

Kirk's younger brother, Tony, was also British champion but he lacked Kirkland's boxing skills and, quite frankly, looked lucky to get the nod over Clinton McKenzie to win the vacant British light-welterweight title at the Albert Hall back in 1986. Tony could whack with the right hand, though.

Lloyd Christie was always overshadowed by his brother too (Errol), but actually had a more successful career.

fornicate me that’s some talent. Errol Christie, Kirkland Laing. You don’t see talent like that today in British boxing.

They certainly were far better talents than Tyson fornicating Fury.

Even off his nut on crack you wouldn’t see Kirk uppercut himself in the face.

The 7ft maestro is a clumsy sack of shit who can move about well for his height.

Taylor is very good, very tough and very dedicated. Christie and Laing were one-offs in the talent department.

Yeah, Lloyd was a puncher like his brother but turned pro with rent-a-stiff Mike Sendell and was thrown in with everyone, including Terry Marsh whom he held to a draw. It wasn't until Lloyd linked up with the Lynch brothers in Birmingham that his career took shape and he won the British light-welterweight title with a barnstorming three-round stoppage of Tony McKenzie, a title he retained twice to win a Lonsdale Belt outright. He lost momentum after that and his career ultimately fizzled out but he at least fulfilled his early potential, unlike Errol.

Lloyd also scored a stunning KO over Winston Spencer.

You can see that on youtube. Christie nails Spencer with a left hook and Spencer is 'gone'. Spencer was a good fighter but Lloyd was really hitting hard at light-welterweight, after the Lynch brothers dropped him down a weight.

Lloyd was as good an example of proving records are for DJ's (as Peter MacDonagh would say) !
