the hof win, putting the rest to shame
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz - PBC PPV?
Really intriguing as there is still some mystery about how to rank Andy Ruiz, a guy who KO'ed Anthony Joshua, but narrowly lost to Joshua Parker (not necessarily in Ruiz's prime). A fight with Ortiz will help a lot in revealing where Ruiz is at. Although, hard to be sure what Ortiz has left at his age, and not having received a very reliable test in a few years that could indicate if he's getting old.
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz - PBC PPV?
Yes, 6 rounds is where he ran out of steam in the Wilder fight, and he trained hard for that - well, as hard as his heart meds would allow him.

Ruizs prime seems to be one night in New york... His loss to parker is by far his best performance outside of the first AJ fight.Lackeos wrote: ↑20 Jun 2021, 17:28 Really intriguing as there is still some mystery about how to rank Andy Ruiz, a guy who KO'ed Anthony Joshua, but narrowly lost to Joshua Parker (not necessarily in Ruiz's prime). thats exactly it -- he had one excellent but totally anomalous showing. the arreola , parker, and aj 2 fights are much more in line with his general performancesgregregegg wrote: ↑20 Jun 2021, 23:19Ruizs prime seems to be one night in New york... Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz - PBC PPV?
Its actualy even more extreme, ruizs prime is about 30 seconds of round 3 in the first AJ fight. Ruiz lost round 1, then round 2, then got spanked round 3 but got up (fair play), and When AJ was reckless got him with a perfffect equilibrium shot... But then honestly he wasn't that convincing against AJ who was doing his best Bambi impersonation for the next 3 rounds. Got it done, cant take that away from him, but so did Rahman, and his next 4 fights didnt make him out to be a killer...margaret thatcher wrote: ↑21 Jun 2021, 02:48thats exactly it -- he had one excellent but totally anomalous showing. the arreola , parker, and aj 2 fights are much more in line with his general performancesgregregegg wrote: ↑20 Jun 2021, 23:19Ruizs prime seems to be one night in New york... Got Ortiz by KO if this happens even though Ruiz might be favourite.

Another odd fight to predict
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz - PBC PPV?
Has this fight been even scheduled? I'd be surprised if he took on Ortiz, who is the same age as Manny Pac. Even at his age, he's the best boxer skill wise in my opinion in the hwt division.

Ortiz has quality footwork and accuracy. He has some power
He is also 50, has stamina issues, and hasnt beat a solid hw outside of bryamt jennings 6 years ago

Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz - PBC PPV?
On the basis that he outboxed Wilder ... until he didn't, rather like Gerald Washington or even Artur Szpilka? Or on the basis that he defeated the mighty Bryant Jennings? Or how about his previous fairly notable win against Tony Thompson way back when Ortiz was in his late thirties?
I don't think Ortiz is technically poor but his achievements don't compare to those of Povetkin, and most likely neither does his skillset. Usyk is even better than Povetkin in terms of pure boxing skill. You must be a Wilder fan. It is they who continually exaggerate Ortiz's ability because he's the only one of Deontay's victims who could make a decent case for being in the top ten at the time when they fought, since the first Stiverne fight. Stiverne was a decent fighter despite his previous knockout defeat to journeyman Demetrice King. It's heavyweight boxing, sh1t happens. Having said that there were better fighters around then and now and he was probably lower half top ten even then
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz - PBC PPV?
I'm a fan of Wilder's power, but that's as far as it goes. Ortiz is technically light years ahead on skill level. I'd just like to see him vs a top ten guy to see what he has left.candyslim wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 04:33On the basis that he outboxed Wilder ... until he didn't, rather like Gerald Washington or even Artur Szpilka? draw seems a distinct possibility
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz - PBC PPV?
I think it is pretty hilarious for so many to pick the Old man Ortiz over a guy that KO'd Joshua! For years, people have denigrated him and his abilities. "Who has he fought and beat?!!!. Now, 42 yrs old, he is favored to beat a guy that beat AJ? It's not the fickle fan thing that bothers me, it is the hate and stupidity.

you go on all the time about manny and peds, aren't you gonna ask about your boi luis, the actual 2x ped failure? the man whose failed more tests than manny? WILL THE FIGHT HAVE RANDOM TESTING? WILL LUIS BE ABLE TO JAM NEEDLES IN HIS BIG ASS AGAIN?
Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz - PBC PPV?
I do too and that goes for both of them. I have no desire to see Fury v Wilder III, not because I think it's a gimme, but because we've been there twice before and I want to see Wilder test his mettle against the calibre of opponent he should have been facing his whole reign as champ. Whyte might be a good place to start, the way that man has been treated by the WBC on Wilder's behalf is f*cking shameful.Bandog wrote: ↑27 Jun 2021, 09:07I'm a fan of Wilder's power, but that's as far as it goes. Ortiz has probably left it too late to try to justify his inflated reputation, but I would welcome the Ruiz fight. One might wonder how Ortiz, Povetkin and Pulev managed to share a place in everyone's top ten rankings for the best part of a decade uninterrupted, without once facing one of the others. Some might suggest a whole lotta ducking going on, but l would bet my bollocks that the innocent one of the three would be Povetkin. He'd fight anyone but those other two were to put it politely, way more circumspect. "If there's no title involved why would i fight anyone remotely threatening?" would seem to be their guiding principle.

Re: Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz - PBC PPV?
I'm surprised about the amount of people favouring Luis Ortiz over Andy Ruiz Jr.
The Cuban might enjoy some early success, but the Mexican-American will probably score a late stoppage, when 'King Kong' falls from the skyscraper due to exhaustion from being worn down from Ruiz Jr's biplane combos and high work-rate.
