Castano was rocked at one stage. Castano was aggressive but Charlo was scoring well and controlling distance. Nice jab, straights.
I don't think it was a robbery by any means. Just my opinion.

i thought for the most part charlo was doing powder puff stuff at distance. pulled, tentative punches. throwing air shots from too far out. hitting the high guard of castano. very superficial stuff that may on the surface appear like he was outboxing castano, but in reality was a lot of ineffective boxing.

it was only the last 3 that he really put his foot down and scored consistently imo, and he had a good 2nd when he fought aggressively. i think in a rematch he needs to cede less ground and be more aggressive

Judging The Judges

The three judges agreed on eight of the twelve rounds scored, with Vazquez on his own for three of the four remaining rounds. Judge Cheatham was in agreement with at least one other judge on all twelve rounds.

Charlo (34-1-1, 18KOs) swept the final three rounds, along with claiming rounds two and five on all three scorecards. Buenos Aires’ Castano (17-0-2, 12KOs) won rounds three, seven and nine in the eyes of all three judges.

Judges Cheatham and Weisfeld agreed on every round but the sixth, one of several early swing frames in the fight. Charlo won the round on the scorecards of Vazquez and Cheatham, while it served as the first of four consecutive rounds that Weisfeld would award to Castano.

Judge Weisfeld was also the lone of the three ringside officials to award Charlo with a 10-8 round in the tenth, by far the best of the fight for the reigning lineal/WBC/WBA/IBF junior middleweight champion. Castano—the reigning WBO titlist—was badly hurt on at least two occasions during the round, the first time he showed signs of truly feeling the power of Charlo since round two—with both of those sessions scored unanimously for Charlo.

Interestingly, the fight was already out of reach for Charlo by that point, as Weisfeld awarded seven of the first nine rounds to Castano. Charlo never led on Weisfeld’s scorecard and was only even at one point, when the fight was 19-19 after two rounds in the eyes of the New Jersey judge.

Charlo pulled even on the scorecard of judge Cheatham after rounds two (19-19), six (57-57) and at the end with his strong surge producing the final 114-114 tally. He never led at any point on that scorecard.

That appeared to be the reality in the eyes of most, and in line with the final round instructions from head trainer Derrick James who urged Charlo to go for the knockout.

The scorecard turned in by Vazquez was all the more baffling in that regard. The Puerto Rican judge never had Charlo trailing at any point in the fight, scoring the first two rounds for the Texan along with rounds four, five and six to give him a commanding 59-55 lead by the midway point. Vazquez was on his own in scoring rounds one, four and eight in favor of Charlo—none of the three which were embraced by home viewers.

Castano officially needed a clean sweep on Vazquez’s card through eight rounds, and the verdict officially off the table after round ten where he trailed 97-93 at a point where most observers had the fight scored in the opposite direction. The final 117-111 card is the second stinker in less than a month for Vazquez, who was the lone judge to score in favor of Efetobor Apochi in his Fight of the Year-level split decision loss to Brandon Glanton on June 27 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Vazquez had the bout 96-93 in favor of Apochi, while Glanton—who scored a sixth-round knockdown—deservedly won by matching scores of 95-94 on the cards of judges John Mariano and Mike Fitzgerald.

The stalemate leaves the junior middleweight division without its first-ever undisputed champion in the four-belt era. The high level of action and skill provided in Saturday’s bout lends the suggestion of Charlo and Castano running it back sometime in the near future, as long as mandatory challengers don’t get in the way.

Whenever that day comes to do it all again, it’s far to reason that they can do it without the services of Nelson Vazquez.

Is that for real? In what other sport would you be rewarded with one of the top fights in the world when you had a major fornicate up earlier in the month.

Judged a fight completely wrong? You sir have just qualified for involvement in an Undisputed Title fight.

Just got around to watching this, quality fight but not the greatest video quality, i agreed with the draw but i always struggle to score fights when i know result, especially in controversial circumstances, Charlo started off busier with the jab, rocked Castano with a left in the 2nd then got hurt from a Castano left in the 3rd, Charlo looked better when using the jab, wasn't the bsst jab ive seen but at least it kept Castsno at bay


I had Castano sweeping a lot of the middle rounds with his pressure and workrate, getting up close and banging Charlo to head and body, it kept Charlo from working and he backpeddled a lot in those rounds, i think it was the 10th he hurt Castano and he finished strong to salvage a draw on my card, either man could've edged it i suppose, would've preferred it was Castano, especially after Jermell's " I'll see what Al say" when questioned about rematch

I had it 115~113 to Castano but was a very close fight. I can see the same scores for Charlo.
117~111 Castano is ridiculous to the highest degree and so is the 10~8 for round 10.

Charlo-Castano Showtime's Most-Watched Live Boxing Match Since December 2019

Jermell Charlo-Brian Castano was Showtime’s most-watched live boxing match since December 2019.

Nielsen Media Research released viewership figures Tuesday that indicated an average of 422,000 watched the highly competitive, thoroughly entertaining battle between Castano and Charlo on Saturday night from AT&T Center in San Antonio. Showtime’s audience peaked at 536,000 toward the end of a 154-pound title unification fight that resulted in a controversial split draw.

Nielsen’s numbers for Charlo-Castano include only viewers that watched live on Showtime’s linear channel because Nielsen doesn’t track streaming services. ViacomCBS, which owns Showtime and BS.com, doesn’t release figures for those that stream Showtime live.

The average and peak audiences for Charlo-Castano were the highest for a live boxing match on Showtime since Gervonta Davis’ 12th-round stoppage of Yuriorkis Gamboa nearly 19 months ago. Davis-Gamboa, a WBA lightweight title fight at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, drew an average audience of 577,000 and a peak audience of 604,000.

Before Saturday night, Jermall Charlo, Jermell’s twin brother, was primarily responsible for Showtime’s largest audience for live boxing since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020. Jermall Charlo, the WBC middleweight champion, helped draw an average of audience of 333,000 and a peak audience of 379,000 for his 12-round, unanimous-decision defeat of Mexico’s Juan Macias Montiel on June 19 at Toyota Center in Houston.

Charlo-Castano, meanwhile, was a back-and-forth fight in which each champion had his moments.

An average audience of 249,000 watched Showtime’s co-feature, Rolando Romero’s seventh-round knockout of Anthony Yigit. Viewership for Romero-Yigit peaked at 256,000.

The hard-hitting Romero (14-0, 12 KOs), of North Las Vegas, Nevada, dropped Sweden’s Yigit (24-2-1, 8 KOs) once late in the fifth round and twice during the seventh round. Their scheduled 12-round fight was contested at the 140-pound limit because Yigit came in 5.2 pounds overweight Friday for what was supposed to be a 135-pound fight for Romero’s WBA interim lightweight title.

The opener of Showtime’s telecast, an action-packed bout between Amilcar Vidal and Immanuwel Aleem, drew an average audience of 202,000 and a peak audience of 220,000. Uruguay’s Vidal (13-0, 11 KOs) edged Aleem (18-3-2, 11 KOs), of Richmond, Virginia, by majority decision in their fan-friendly, 10-round super middleweight match.

Judges Ruben Carrion (97-93) and Glen Crocker (97-93) scored their fight for Vidal. Judge Anthony De Los Santos scored Vidal-Aleem a draw, 95-95.

i think brian won it , i had bri about 8 rds to jermell 1 coming in to the 10th ,yea good rd10 for charlo had brian rocking and not throwing back if he could off connected clean maybe the reff would have stopped it but didnt ,but in the 11th charlo started well but gassed which led bri back in to the rd he found his feet again and recoverd could of been 10 10 but lets say charlo won it 12 th bri though i thought was winning huge in to the 12th came out firing trading no bike for him and charlo gave both barrles to another possible 10 10 , charlo had a decent 2nd wobbled bri which i gave him clear still it looked better watch the replay mostly gloves and misses, brian was on the front foot aggressive which gave him the opportunity to throw plenty off shots which he did and lanned he wobbled charlo early on .i dont think charlo was hurt in the fight but he was on the back foot till the 10th with his philly shell like stance more like philly hermit crab , i thought castano boxed well has a great engine , start to the finish he was on charlo no let up. it isnt the worst decision in boxing shame you have to say that at all but you like to a fighter get the right result

I think these two could fight 10 times and they’d never be a clear winner.
This could be the start of a 4/5 fight series of SD, MD, split draw escapade.
Two styles that gel sexually. I like it.

thats how i saw it aswell mags ,i would say i dont think jermell would be able to box bri on front foot he is not good enough

patronizing comment also admitting he lost , bet castano aint saying that, the argentina boy came out from the first bell till the 12th bell and stood and traded with charlo in the 12th when i thought he was a least 4 up how is that not enough to go and take a world title , jermell has always had that problem he isnt active enough and he isnt as good as his brother its life twins sell i think thats why the mcdonnell had some close fights go there way its interesting

but the thing is if castano didnt win that fight what can he do to win the rematch , unless he ko jermell he cant win it no way he can up that performance he boxed well and at high tempo , i havent seen the shots thrown lanned stats i know that doesnt always show the full story but

How many gifts is this charlo going to get? On that showing Eubank Jr has a decent chance getting to him. Eubanks chin will hold up, it's just a matter of whether or not him and Roy will come in with the right tactics. They probably won't since he's trying to become a boxer and he wouldn't be able to outbox charlo. Is Roy smart enough to devise the right gameplan?

eubank doesnt fight at 154, that's kinda a random matchup isnt it

i hear way way more about how eubank would beat good fighters than i actually see him do it anyway

I thought I read somewhere that both charlo are going to be ruling 160. Not going to happen. I would pick Jermall to beat Eubank though.

they are both good, but neither looked like overlords in their most recent fights , that's for sure

mall a bit hurt and gassed vs a guy munguia had ko'd in 2, mell IMO a bit fortunate to get a draw vs castano.

I don't rate Jermell at all. He's just Deontay Wilder in there. Jermall has more to his game and tougher to beat.
