Decent effort but the Cuban was a level above

Think the Cuban just had his number in a 3 round format, so hard to hit clean and punishes you for every miss.

Excited for McCormack in the pros, hope they get the matching and activity right!

Look forward to seeing the McCormack twins In the pro game. Both exceptional amateurs with styles that will suit the pros

Yeah Cuban was a level above - thought Woodhall's commentary was way off. Cuban bossed that and McCormack couldn't answer his speed.

well ben took his silver with less grace

gets very arguable decisions in the 1/4 and 1/2 that easily could've gone the other way, then clearly loses the final, then just shoves the silver medal in his pocket during the ceremony and sulks. obviously emotions high for him

gal yafai now the only men's hope for gold?

Are there any GB women left in the boxing?

He didn't congratulate the victor after the fight either, just stalked off.

Frazer Clark - class act.
Ben Whittaker - well...

ya, i know it's disappointing and all but a bit immature there. pat also took his silver a lot better than ben did

ben easily couldve lost the decision in his quarterfinal and not got a medal at all. he easily couldve had the semi final go against him too. and he clearly lost the final.

The Kazakh got robbed.

No way was that a robbery. I thought Yafai just did enough but it could have gone either way.

Been really impressed with the judging, I’ve barely disagreed with a verdict this time round yet there were loads I disagreed with in London & Rio.

Yafai’s doing incredibly well. The Cuban & Kazakh he beat looked top class fighters to me. You wouldn’t be surprised if either of them won gold in 3 years time.

agree on the judging when it comes to winner vs loser, but the judges obsessions with split decision has been weird though......have been way too many of them in fights where 1 guy obviously won. kick the sh!t out of a guy? here's a 4-1 for you! put on a boxing lesson? 3-2 coming right up!

but havent been too many outright robberies

Yafai won the 1st round only. Kazakh clearly outgunned Yafai in the 2nd and in the 3rd. They gave the 2nd to Kazakh 3:2, but the 3rd was even better for him. Yafai was awarded a dec. Hopefully he gets battered next.

His commentary in the Whitaker final was also poor. He kept raving about Whitaker's jab even though he was flicking out jabs which didn't land. Woodhall is too close to these guys to speak rationally.

Maybe he was tired after all that singing and dancing on his ringwalk.

Thought Yafais fight was a great watch. No problem with the scoring, reflected how tight it was. Could of went either way, yafai invests in the body more than most, doesn't seem to always get scored as much.

Terrific win from Yafai, razor tight & thought he might’ve been pipped at the post, but obviously no problem with the judges giving it to the brummie lad, no hint of home cookin as he’s a lonnnng way from home. The way he comes out like a whirling dervish reminds me of another flyweight Olympian of ours from days gone by, Charlie Magri. He’s got a hard as nails opponent awaiting him ….

Ben didn’t cover himself in glory with that almighty sulk over the silver medal

Great fight with Yafai. If he could have kept his volume up in the second round just a little bit more I think he'd have swept the second round to make the third more comfortable.

Whilst Woodhall does mention 'He needs to move the head' for every GB fight, he is also great at picking things out like the lead uppercut that Yafai was throwing, and it was great to hear him get excited in the last 30 seconds "Go on Yafai".

Good start to the morning.

Not been too many i've thought were robbed ,, couple i thought were unlucky , but defo not robbed been a few where to be honest i would off hated to have been a judge just could,t seperate them ..what has stood out to me is the better more succesfull have just got down to it and threw leather , , the Aussie kid Harry Garside was very very lucky in his 1/4 final , and showed if the Aussies carry on with that style there being made to do , that ever elusive gold in boxing will be a long way off still ,

I remember watching Charlie's disastrous first bout at the Montreal Olympics in the stinking hot summer of 1976. The African nations pulled out at the very last minute, which meant that Charlie, who was drawn against a Ghanaian, got a bye to the second round. The same applied to Canada's Ian Clyde, who had been scheduled to face the Zambian Charm Chiteule (later to give Barry McGuigan a scare) and was then lined up against Magri.
Both men had to wait a week before they met and Charlie looked out of sorts from the start. His usual aggression was missing and he struggled to pin down the slippery Clyde, a southpaw with plenty of home support in the Olympic arena (later to stage the Duran-Leonard superfight). Charlie's nerves were clearly affecting him but the fight was still up for grabs in the third round when Charlie began taking risks and suddenly walked on to a big right hook and down he crashed. He beat the count but glanced up at the clock over the ring and stumbled backwards. This prompted the referee to wave it off.
That was it for Magri's Olympic campaign. Clyde didn't last much longer himself, dropping a 5:0 decision to a Cuban in his next bout. America's largely forgotten Leo Randolph won the flyweight gold and joined Ray Leonard and the Spinks brothers in winning a world title in the pros when he stopped Colombia's Ricardo Cardona in the 15th round in Seattle in 1980. Charlie, of course, won a world title himself by stopping Eleoncio Mercedes in seven rounds in 1983. He was linked to that man Clyde several times as a pro but Terry Lawless, who agonized over every match for his fighters, just wouldn't take the risk, which is a shame.

I'd say, he's a one of the worst medalists.

Great recall bennie, 76 olympics was before I started following the boxing and Charlie wasn’t on my radar until he lost his unbeaten record in the pros, in that huge upset that made the back pages - that really caught my eye & the unpredictability of the sport hooked me.
I remember throughout his career that loss to Ian Clyde was always referenced with Charlie, it must’ve annoyed him no end …

Ian Clyde fought for the world title himself, getting KO'd inside 10 rounds for the IBF flyweight title. I always thought Scottie Olson should have fought for a legit world title - he was a good fighter who was always on Eurosport!
