Not keen on Algieri. He's way past his best and beating him doesn't prove a great deal. If Benn really is 'PPV baby', maybe he needs a bigger test than a pillow fisted 37 year old with one fight in over two years.
After all, there's plenty of decent tests out there for him...

Benn is a prime example of a fighter who bypasses the domestic route and gets fed sub-standard foreign opposition and over the hill veterans for crappy intercontinental titles, gets ranked and then farts about avoiding anyone decent.
He's not alone in this but it's a problem that blights modern boxing.
If he's that good, put him in with Avanesyan and have him win a legitimate belt. If not STFU with this over-hyping.

December 2017 when he got gifted the decision in the first Peynaud fight because of his name. That's when you should have begun to root against him, when his name got in the way of a loss he deserved.

I've never liked Benn since they asked to see my friends amateur card before agreeing a bout, which they didn't take

Benn gets plus points for me after his cameo in the new film Rise of the Footsoldier 5. Love those films.

He played Nigel in it. Think he may have been in the previous one also.

Benn was in tremendous trouble in that fight but I have him stealing it or a draw with those late KDs.
I certainly wouldn’t use that fight to judge him anymore.
But these fights against +35 vets are annoying.

Personaly i find its not only his fights annoying , but he himself is doubly annoying , with his hard man act

Algieri has one foot in retirement, is knocking on in years and is light hitting. Yep, perfect Benn opponent.

It's not like he needs any confidence boosters - He oozes it.

There is zero confidence in his chin in my opinion. and seeing him lunge around in his last fight I don't think there is much confidence in his boxing ability either,

eh, its okay but not really that interesting. algeiri is a tough guy but a division smaller and was already unpowerered there. he went through a retirement too didnt he?

lopez was my pick, someone who could give benn a firefight. they seem weary of matching been with anyone offensively dangerous

there's clearly a focus on putting him in with low power guys who are limited offensively. obviously they are a bit nervous about him still. tbh i think he looks good enough to be let out the cage more. continually fighting low power guys more defensively geared might get him complacent

algeiri 9 in 28 and mostly fought at 140
formella 11 stoppages in 25 fights
vargas 14 stoppages in 40 fights
koivula 9 in 35
steve jamoye 5 stoppages in 35 fights

and the biggest stoppage any of those guys have might by algieri over tommy coyle. granados had a decent stoppage rate but that was built up almost entirely on cans (though tbf he did give decent fights to a lot of good opposition, but hardly ever hurting them)

Conor Benn will close out a productive 2021 campaign with his biggest name—and perhaps toughest test—to date.

Former junior welterweight titlist Chris Algieri has been confirmed as the opponent of choice for the unbeaten Benn, Matchroom Boxing confirmed Sunday. The bout will headline a DAZN telecast December 11 from M&S Bank Arena in Liverpool, England.

“To headline in a city like Liverpool you need to be in the ring against a world class operator," Benn said following the confirmation. "Chris has done it all, a former World Champion and exactly the opponent I need to gain experience from.

"We expect Algieri to bring his best, but I want him deep in the trenches with me, I want to use this opportunity to display my skills and ability against a quality fighter to prepare me and take another step closer to a World Title. A former world champ versus a very, very hungry contender, I can’t wait for December 11."

Benn (19-0, 12KOs) has scored two wins this year, both coming versus elevated competition. The second-generation boxer from Ilford, Essex—whose father Nigel was a former two-division titlist in the 1990s—opened the year with an 80-second blitzing of Samuel Vargas this past April at Copper Box Arena. The demand to secure a tougher opponent led to the sturdy Adrian Granados extending Benn the ten-round distance, where the unbeaten Brit claimed a well-earned unanimous decision this past September in Leeds, England.

The fight with Algieri represents the first former major titlist on Benn’s resume.

Algieri (25-3, 9KOs) is coming off a ten-round decision over former title challenger Mikkel LesPierre this past August at Hulu Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The win ended a two-year layoff for the 37-year-old from the Huntington section of Long Island, New York who has won his last four starts.

The win streak comes after having last three of four bouts—all to former or current world champions—following his twelve-round split decision win over Ruslan Provodnikov in June 2014 to win the WBO junior welterweight title. The feat paved the way for a lucrative showdown with Manny Pacquiao, where Algieri lost a lopsided decision in a failed bid to win the WBO welterweight title. Algieri then came up just short versus former 140-pound titlist Amir Khan before suffering his lone stoppage the defeat at the hands of Errol Spence prior to the unbeaten Texan’s current unified welterweight title status.

Four wins followed, though the last of which came following a 26-month ring absence. The fight with Benn will mark his first in the United Kingdom and just second overall outside the U.S.

“This has a big fight feel to it and I’m thrilled to be back on this type of stage," said Algieri. "The UK has brilliant fans and I’m looking forward to performing in front of those legendary crowds. December 11 with be a masterclass with me utilizing my deep bag of skills and experience.

This is a total bollocks fight.

Basically in against a semi-retired, semi-known name, who has 1 KO to his name in the last 9 years, and gets knocked down a bit.

Sell it as a step up and part of the journey to a carefully managed vacant world title shot.

And I quite like watching Connor Benn btw. But let's see him in a 60/40 at least, especially if he's headlining an arena show.

Would have much preferred Lopez.

Algeria has seen far better days a is basically a commentator these days.

He has a chin, but not much else. This is a poor fight when you look at who is around domestically. He's being fed guys who are way past their prime.

Typical Hearn. This card is basically more pish being served up as something it's not.

Like I said before it’s not as good as the Lopez fight but I don’t think it’s awful either as he’ll still be Benn’s best opponent.

The issue Matchroom/Benn have is that they’re almost promoting him too hard. Talk of Broner, Porter etc. and then fighting Algeri.

I get it that they tried to go domestic but Jenkins didn’t accept it whilst team Benn didn’t want to waste time on purse bids so I’m ok with them bypassing it but they need to reign it in with OTT stuff.

I would watch it later on YouTube if I found out Benn got out boxed and lost a decision. I dont think Algeri has it left in the tank, nor do I think he can dent Benn, nor do I expect judging to be fair, but we live in hope
