Tennis is a really expensive sport. If you’re exceptional then you’ll get funding but if not then you need money.

There aren’t many places where it’s free to play in parks but you then needs racquets and balls.

If you want to play properly then you need to join a club. I was paying £70 a year as a kid which is pretty cheap. Group coaching cost £4 an hour, £18 an hour for 1on1 coaching, £15 every time you break a string, at least £120 for a new racquet if needed, paying to get to/enter tournaments. I started playing for my county at 14/15 so it was 70 mile round trip for that every week. It’s not like it is for boxing where you may have several kids fighting at the same place so can take a mini bus or load a car up.

To get any better than fairly good then it’s more expensive. One of my mates is now a head coach at a US university. He paid (his wealthy dad paid) for hitting sessions each morning before school where he literally paid a guy better than him £15/hour just to rally with him, he had at least 6 hours of 1-2-1 coaching at £24/hour and then paid for the other stuff on top of that.

It’s the most elitist mainstream sport I’d say.

Again, must be different here. Loads of free tennis courts. Usually with dogs getting walked on them.

I do believe that some very well established boxing gyms like York or Joe Gallagher scheme also sideline as alternative skills centres .. offering qualifications and other skills ... Mickey and others have shown me proof of that.

What I found surprising was there were basic gyms teaching kids '"not to be little shits" as you were best able to explain it, with funding streams.

Hence why I asked for details - which you unsurprisingly were unable to provide

As previously written. I am fully aware of enterprises offering skills to kids. Whether they are based in boxing gym premises, workman halls, churches .. it's not new.

I'm unable to provide (any further) details because it would be a breach of confidentiality. I have given outline figures as examples from my direct experience EG i literally see the bank statements and invoices showing this income. Believe it or not, that's up to you

It’s called enrichment.
These kids,are never going to get GCSE’s, so we have a tutor come in the gym and teach them basic maths and English, how to fill forms in etc.
Like I said previously, it’s more about life skills. And working with positive people or strong male role models does it have lots of benefits.
It pays well too
