I'd be shocked if Benn was getting £100,000, not as much as you think. The money is not there for these shows
Eddie wouldn’t have gone over unless he was getting large funds for the fights. They also turned down £500k plus PPV upside for Avanesyan as it wasn’t nearly enough (Conor himself said that he earns that kind of money now) whilst Eddie said they needed 3 times that and Conor needed more experience.
Warren could have offered £3m + upside and Eddie would have still said it wasn’t enough- that’s just his stock response on the few occasions that Frank has sent an other for one of his kids.

Eddie said, he needs one more and than he would look at Avanesyan…well they had that now, and strangely enough there was no talk about it.

Instead, they will probably claim in the coming days that they have gone past Avanesyan after beating up an old, feather fisted Algeri.

Next will be somebody like Josseito Lopez, or Eddie will dig up Corey Spinks or Devin Alexander.
Conor said similar in that they needed to up their offer as it wasn’t too dissimilar to what he was currently being paid.

Conor will probably fight anyone. Avanesyan is fairly high risk/little reward as there are fights that are probably easier (Broner) that will generate far more global/U.K. interest and money.

They haven’t really mentioned Avanesyan much themselves - it’s FW and Marsh have as it’s a big fight for them that they’d do on BT PpV. It’s a good, tough fight for Benn but it’s not bigger really than Algeiri. Might be bigger in the U.K. but globally it wouldn’t.

Say what? :maybe:
Was this on DAZN?
Advertising of other things besides what is coming up on DAZN?
I left the service a few months back, just because it was underperforming for someone who only wants boxing matches and not other garbage.
There was no advertising back then.
Seems a bit of cheek.
Ye mate, should be just highlights or corner work no fckin William Hill or Ladbroke or whatever other betting sites they fleece money from.
Aww, that does suck. Thanks for the response G.
I love to listen to the corner work, especially if it's a coach I respect, also highlights even if it isn't a KD are good if well edited. That minute isn't spare, it's vital.
Well screw DAZN then.
You pay for a subscription, then they put the price up, then they pester you with advertising, then they start going to ppv all the big fights...
Glad I left, and I encourage others to do the same, citing the above reasons. They only way they will learn is a swift, hard kick in the wallet. :OhYes:

Not sure. She’s doing this ITV dance show which started tonight and runs across this coming week so may be spread too thin.

Laura Woods is better though and the guy doing the post fight interviews is fine too so Jama won’t be missed too much.

Always felt Maya would be a short term thing - without meaning disrespect she's no boxing fan and is too "mainstream" and ambitious for a streaming channel slot.

yeh, I saw her on an ITV show..

She's probably bigger than being on an app.

Laura is better to look at IMO and has suited the role better.

Just cancelled DAZN as nothing scheduled for a while and in the Sunday paper yesterday they said any deal with BT won't be done till the New Year as lots of contract issues and Discovery + in there.
I wonder how long DAZN carries on if they don't get the BT channels ?

There’s no sign of DAZN stopping. They’re a worldwide company and are doing deals for more content all of the time.

For the U.K. and the US it’s pretty much just about the boxing so having a period now with no shows scheduled isn’t good at all for them and will cause people to cancel.

I think it's hard for some to get their head around the fact that this isn't allegedly financed allegedly but a worldwide company owned by the richest man in Britain who appears to be getting richer and richer by the year. DAZN is probably also a very useful tool when you're a Russian Billionaire and you want to make your money ' work for you '.

Yeah. In the grand scheme of things buying rights off BT isn’t too big a deal for them. They bought the Spanish La Liga rights for the next 5 seasons. Their spend on U.K. boxing will be a drop in the ocean compared to some of their other deals.

I think the US and U.K. markets are very different when it comes to PPV.

In the U.K., a PPV is more affordable and we have 4/5 a year. I don’t remember (but I could be wrong) Eddie ever saying that PPV was dead over here or that AJ should be free to view on DAZN. In reality both AJ and Fury will likely always be on PPV over here and I’m not sure many would disagree with that. The risk they have in the U.K. is putting other fights on DAZN PPV. A good example is the recent Wallin/Whyte fight that was meant to happen. Clearly that would have been PPV on Sky but it shouldn’t ever be PPV on DAZN. If that changes then Eddie/DAZN deserve criticism.

In the US PPVs are far more frequent, the price is usually 3 times more than the U.K. price ($80/£60 vs £20) and now the quality of the PPV shows has massively gone done hill. The result of this is that the majority of US PPVs now lose money and not many people see them. It was reported Crawford/Porter did 135k buys, the Charlo PPV did 100k and Davis/Cruz did less than 100k buys. In a country the size of the US those numbers are awful and I’m not surprised anyone saying the PPV market in the US is dead.

Yeah. My point was that if they had looked to put it on DAZN PPV then it would have been a joke and they should be rightly criticised.

Apart from the fact that the world's most famous boxer cut short a DAZN deal to get himself back on US PPV.

He cut short his DAZN deal and then had his next 3 fights on DAZN! Then went to PPV as, if the reports were to be believed, PBC would only allow the fight on their terms. One of the big advantages of Canelo being a free agent but also shows PBC’s issues.

PPV can still work in the US if it’s saved for mega fights but when barely a hundred thousand buy the Ppv of Terrance Crawford in his toughest fight yet against a known fighter in Porter it shows the market has been abused and isn’t there any more.

Every Canelo fight since he left his contract with DAZN has been shown on PPV in the US.

The Wilder/Fury fights happened because of PPV.

Davis/Cruz didn't do 'less than 100k' according to Espinoza.

UFC is still invested in PPV.

The PPV model is still very much alive. Which isn't great for boxing but it is what it is.

The post Golden Boy DAZN Canelo fights have been available to buy on PPV but they weren’t marketed that way. Just for people too lazy to sort DAZN on their TV so pay well over the odds for it. I would imagine that 95%+ of people who watched it, watched through DAZN.

The second Wilder/Fury reportedly fight didn’t recoup the massive costs of purses and publicity whilst the third one did ok.

I’m not surprised Espinoza said it did more than the reported numbers. He’s hardly going to come out and saying it did poorly. The same people who reported his last fights doing 200k buys are saying this one didn’t get close to that or are quiet. If 200k buys is considered a success then that’s half of the problem.

Bob was saying before Crawford/Porter that it could do 2m buys. Top Rank/ESPN would have lost a fortune on that.

UFC should be invested in PPV because it’s a model that still works really well for them because their fights and shows are well matched and people feel they get value for money from them. I’ve been to c.20 UFC shows over the years and have always felt I’ve had value for money and competitive fights.

Might be good news for us. They're going to have to come up with the goods if they want people to re-subscribe.

On the other hand, there could be major issues with shows clashing.

FW has just stated he wants to do 3 big shows in March. That's before anything is announced for DAZN, Boxxer, Probellum and Hennessy.

Yeah. PPV certainly isn’t dead but people, namely PBC, are doing their best to kill it in the US through short term greed.

Not sure how having no U.K. shows for 2 months could be good for us. It’s not like DAZN’s output has been bad recently - their shows over the last 5/6 weeks have been great.

Eddie may look to pivot into having more shows abroad, particularly in the US, and more of those fights involving Brits.

I think it’s stupid having any period of time where no fights and properly signed and scheduled like we’ve got now. I know covid doesn’t help but you would have thought they’d have had January shows announced a few weeks back.
