The Audley era was when Bunce really jumped the shark.
His opinion went from respected to ridicule very quickly.
Prior to that he was approachable. He contacted me through this site when he was a regular here, and was generous enough to do a book review of someone I was involved with in the IBRO.

Ah right. That was good of him. Although based on some of the stories he may have just mis-read your request and thought it was BIRO rather than IBRO.

I used to really like Bunce - particularly when he was with Setanta. Even looked at getting tickets for one of his live events until I realised zero of mates were interested in going.

I just think his opinions now have lost a lot of credibility because of all of his different paymasters. Can you really believe his thoughts on BT/ch5 fighters when they’re the networks paying him?

I find I have to work hard to separate Bunce the writer from Bunce the 'boxing personality.

So here's the thing, I LOVE his Boxing News column - the passion, the knowledge, the prose... I honestly think it's gold dust and one of the reasons I subscribe to BN. There's no doubt he loves the game and has great historical knowledge and insights.

However, when it comes to his public persona, I end up feeling a bit embarrassed for him in all honesty. He shows a staggering lack of emotional maturity considering his age and experience, his latest spat on twitter unfortunately being a prime example of that. His fragile ego also leads to self-inflicted wounds such as trying to claim he 'tells it like it is', when we all know that's simply impossible to reconcile with some of his professional obligations.

I wish he'd spend more time raising others up rather than putting them down, but it's clearly never going to happen...

His boxing knowledge in print is polarised by his boxing knowledge in person .. when you have time to research facts its quite easy to come across as knowledgeable; this leads to his fragile ego when pulled on things he spouts off the top of his head.

As said; he is the Colin Hart of today. Someone who was initially respected as knowledgeable, but gradually disappeared up their own @rse and developed into nothing more than a token `boxing expert` by those who didn`t actually know anything about boxing.

That useless "boxing" presenter on Channel 5 would be absolutely lost without Buncey.

I think you summed him up perfectly imo

I've said it before and I'll say it again....Buncey & Lillis on B0xnati0n were superb, a joy to hear

Put into context, when it was an early hours show from the States and time to kill between fights, the pair of them would slip into gear and give the boxing fan all the food for thought they needed :salut:

Only Alex Steadman is capable of doing likewise :TU:

Anyone remember him asking Chisora what his evening plans were before the Klit fight.

DC - “I hear a couple of brothers have a restaurant close by; I’ll go there”
SB - “What… a couple of Caribbean guys or black Brits?”
DC - “No, the Klitschko brothers”

I used to be an unapologetic Buncey fan in the halcyon days of allegedly when he and Steve would sit on the sofa rambling on for hours before a Kovalev or GGG fight. He was engaging, insightful and most of all natural.

Now he’s just a parody of himself, exaggerating his character traits to try to give himself the air of a larger than life personality. Maybe it fools the casuals but anyone who remembers the old Bunce would find him a little cringeworthy and boring now I imagine.

Always amuses me on Bunce threads that (presumably) the same guy but with various different user profiles has managed to somehow keep the obviously invented biro story alive for all these years. I always wonder if he has a genuine gripe with Bunce or if he just finds it funny.

That link explains it all. Having school fees to pay will make even the best of men toe the company line.

He does look everything the stereotype bully anyways.
According to that article other parents confirmed what the kid said - total lack of arrogance; basically what we know is Bunce
