I saw him the day after he lost the third fight to Harding. He was at McKenzie v Soto & looked as fresh as a daisy.
He & Harding fought on Wednesday (Hammersmith) , McKenzie on Thursday (Battersea). Both 'World' title bouts.
Different times.

Amazing !!
After you posted this I was curious to see what venues the fights were at.
Andries fought at Hammersmith odeon (known now as the Hammersmith eventim Apollo and Duke fought at the Latchmere Leisure centre.
Two venues I know well and would have never thought they would have hosted world title fights! Especially the Latchmere, I have been there for children’s birthday parties haha

I saw a rare recent photo of Dennis today. Andries hands are absolutely huge! Still looks like you wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of him even at 71
I was with him at The London Ex Boxers LEBA on Sunday, YES his hands and knuckles are massive!
If anyone would want to come and Join LEBA let me know

The Latchmere fight was packed with boxers. And others. Frank McAvennie (West Ham) was there with two Page 3 birds. Billy Schwere was there. I think he'd fought the night before and had a black eye, but I could be wrong. Alan Minter stumbled on me at the bar upstairs. He was HUGE.
Before the main event they introduced all the boxers in attendance and one by one they all stood up to cheers. Except Minter, after calling him a couple of times they realised he was still at the bar looking down at us (it was behind a large glass wall)
John Mugabe fought that night.

Nice one, I think it was a photo from that LEBA meeting I saw. Does he talk much about his career or say why he keeps away from the boxing media? Is he involved in boxing in anyway?
Re LEBA, can anyone join, I always assumed it was only for ex-fighters

How do you mean? I guess if he’s always been the same he’s unlikely to change character as he gets older.
At 71 and best days now in the past. I would like to talk about my achievements in life, especially if I had been involved with the Kronk gym and the legends that had passed through there.
I'm sure Denis has a boat load of stories that would make a great autobiography
Yeah I’m sure he has some great stories, we are all different though so I guess he isn’t interested in talking about it publicly for whatever reason.
It's sad in a way to take those stories and memories to the grave with you, especially when boxing fans paid money to support Dennis.

Nice to see a 'what happened to...' thread and it not be about Kevin Lear.

he may well have shared them plenty with family and friends, not everyone wants to be in the public spotlight. boxing fans paid to watch him and they got to see him while he was active, after he hung them up what are they paying him now

Hahaha, how weird, I was actually there that night, I’d forgotten - a friend of mine was fighting on the undercard, Akash D Paul, who was good mates with Duke ( Duke is a lovely guy ) and got us tickets.
I don’t recall much about the Mugabi fight that night, but I do a few weeks later, vividly, when I was at the Royal Albert Hall and I swear on the way to the ring his legs were unsteady with Mickey Duff guiding him along, to his execution….shot to hell. And no surprise at all as Gerald McClellan iced him inside a few minutes.
I remember the Andries fight being at the Hammersmith Odeon, it was so odd, I was away at the time, otherwise, I might have gone. The only time I ever saw boxing there was on the big screen, closed circuit for ……Larry Holmes Gerry Cooney!

Anyone can join mate, I haven't been since they left Old Street, but you'll be made to feel welcome, I'd highly recommend.

He didn't look good against a journeyman. I don't think he hurt Whalley El during the fight & it was a '
British Stoppage'.
