I'm not sure about your stats, gregregegg :maybe:

Lee McGregor got turned over IMO in recent weeks.

lee's obviously an exception......happened in charlo-harrison 1 in the usa too for example. i also remember years ago teddy atlas doing one of his big rants when a canadian fighter lost a very questionable decision to a colombian in canada.

not literally 100 percent of poor decisions go to the a-side over the b-side, but it's very very heavily weighted toward them, far too much for it all just to be chance of simply incompetence. that's pretty much a global thing tbf

Maybe, maybe not (and perhaps I'm more inclined to your argument) but I still think the UK does offer as fair a place as anywhere.

It's going back a few years but Brodie-Jorrin :maybe: Surely Brodie won that that fair & square in most people's eyes ?

The UK isn't the corrupt boxing board that's being put out there. It's a subjective sport.

in this instance i was using 99% as a figure of speech. I clearly havent been out and crunched the numbers. But, there is a strong bias. as a rule these arnt each way variations.

Didnt see Lees, but ill take your word on it, they do go the other way, just much much rarer. Lee mcgregors was a ref decision. dont get me started on them. Its outragouse that televised bouts in england will have the ref doing the scoring. I understand on the smallest of hall shows, the money just isnt there. but fornicate me i hate that on decent shows ... (that card had 1 fight with judges and it didnt even go to the cards).

So the board are going to talk to themselves ???

How does it work with rob smith. Who elected him and why is he in a role that doesn’t have to be re-elected ???

I don't think the board is corrupt per se, and I don't actually think many are suggesting that either.

A bit like Carl Frampton said on Saturday night (he's invited to Taylor's wedding, but didn't sit on the fence with his verdict), I don't believe brown envelopes are being slipped into anyone's pockets.

I believe comes down to either sheer incompetence or being easily influenced by crowd/surroundings. IJL has shown himself to be unfit for purpose as both a judge and a referee on many occasions over the years, yet is still allowed to officiate at the highest level. This is a man who came up with a mathematically impossible score in a three round Prizefighter contest.

Even if we are on a level with other countries (and I think the level of officiating/scoring in the UK has been getting gradually worse over the last 20-30 years), why can't we aspire to be better?

Going "oh well, these things happen" is not good enough.

We don't know what is going on behind the scenes. Some results are just too incompetent to be corrupt. In my opinion, nobody can say with a straight face that the Mimoune McKenna decision was not corrupt for example. In that case a fight between Ohara Davies and McKenna was more financially viable and the decision went that way.

Official Judging
Marcus McDonnell 96 - 94
Kieran McCann 96 - 94
Chas Coakley 97 - 93

These cards were all for McKenna. This was the worst decision in boxing history.

Remember when Smith was interviewed after the Ritson robbery, he had a bad attitude. Not sure if he was nursing a hangover or something else.

Said he didn't care what people who had a beer had to say or anyone on social media i.e the fans.

Ironically his own judges have judged fights like drunks.

yep, it was so bad the ref had to double check with the mc that the result had been announced right :o

the commentators were already talking about how the mimoune-davies final would go.....even they expected the result was a foregone conclusion. i guess it was, just not the right way....

when everyone else in the world can see that mimoune won like 8 rounds out of 10, its not just some random incompetence that all 3 judges go the otheer way. those judges are going in there looking to score it mkenna

yep, smith is the typical 'stupid fans, never boxed, dont know a thing' type

the only time ive seen him remotely stirred to do anything about a judge is when that old american guy had burnett and haskins mixed up. that judge had only judged 1 other uk fight (aj-martin) in the previous decade, retired shortly after the mix up, and would probably have never judged in the uk again anyway, so going after him hardly meant a thing

but when it comes to judges who turn in crap repeatedly here, he holds no one to account, it's clearly an old bois club made of guys who have no shame

He’s just been on talkSPORT. Said he thought the fight was close but confirmed the Board will investigate.

Like I said on another thread, I’ll save us the wait. Here’s a sneak preview of the Press Release:

‘We have conducted an extensive investigation into the scoring of the Josh Taylor - Jack Catterall contest for the undisputed light welterweight world championship.

‘After calling the judges in to explain their scorecards, we have found no irregularities and stand by their decisions.

‘Our judges are highly trained and experienced and interpreted the fight within the scope of the rules.

‘We remind everyone that boxing is extremely subjective and can be seen very differently according to a number of factors.’

I agree with you on lack of corruption and on the point about aspiring to be better. If I were a ref, I'd want to be the very best ref I could be. And like any skilled profession, I'd want regular training and regular feedback to help me achieve that.

One small thing re your the Prizefighter point - if you are referring to the 30-28 scorecard in favour of a boxer who was knocked down in one round, that's entirely OK. If the boxer wins the round in which he was knocked down, that would have been 10-9 but for the KD, a one point adjustment for the KD makes it 10-10. It's in the (unpublished) Referees Guide. We've had some threads on it before - see viewtopic.php?p=5015483 and viewtopic.php?f=9&t=245924&start=50 . So if that is how IJL saw that round, he scored it correctly.

It would help if I could remember what fight it was. In my memory it was an impossible score, but I could be wrong. It was certainly the wrong score, in what I think was IJL's prime for fornicate ups.

Not being funny but after what happened with Burnett and that scorecard where the judge mixed up the fighters I thought to myself that can’t be the first and only time that’s happened. How surprised would people be if they found out the 114_111 card was actually meant for Caterall but the judge was too embarrassed to admit it and came up with some cock and ball story in front of Robert Smith.

Semantics. The magazines I read spoke of him as if he were in charge and the discussion to this day always seems to be about 'What is Rob Smith going to do about such-and-such?' so excuse me if I interpreted this as Rob Smith being in charge.
