, least Cotto was honest

To be fair they offered Harris twice as much as he got in his next fight so it was a serious offer for once for once

Beating N'Dou was impressive, but it was still a close fight after scoring two knockdowns, just like all other N'Dou fights! Witter may also freeze up again, just like he did when he fought Judah and if he does that with Gatti, he's in big trouble!

Witter is a totally different fighter now than he was 5 years ago.
As I keep saying he only had 2 weeks notice for this one. If he gets 8 weeks to prepare for a Gatti fight he wins by stoppage, Gatti is protected at the moment his team are doing wonders keeping him up there.
Branco is pretty average and he had life and death with him. Watch Witter walk right through Branco if they meet.

If Witter couldn't stop N'Dou, he isn't going to stop Gatti. It's Gatti that has been doing a wonderful job, more so than he team and he has certainly been in there with and beaten a lot better competition than Witter!

I have said elsewhere Witter is on his way up, Gatti has been fighting has beens and never weres since the DLH whooping and is on the slip. We'll see how much when he gets in with a live opponent.
Witter broke his hand in round 4, and only had 2 weeks notice which would explain why he lost his intensity in the middle rounds.
I'll bet any money you like Witter to win if the fights comes off.

Problem is, Witter will probably freeze up when he gets in with another world class opponent, just like he did in his only go at the top, maybe not...but he will probably injure a hand, or some other excuse will be made after Gatti demolishes him, but like I said, he has to face a top ranked fighter to deserve a shot and he'll be lucky to get by a top contender!

Witter is the mandatory now. What top contenders has Gatti beaten at 140 recently?
Leija was old, Dorin a small lightweight, Branco is average, Ward was barely top 10 and lost to all the top guys he faced yet beat Gatti once in 3 fights. That is not true championship class, Witter deserves a shot at Gatti as much as Branco, Dorin or Leija did.

Every fighter that you mentioned, whom Gatti fought and beat, were not only rated by organizations, but also in the top ten by Ring magazine! Now name one fighter, other than the loss to Judah, who Witter has fought that has been in the top ten...none, but thanks to the corruption and jokabilty of how a fighter earns a ranking nowadays, he probably is ranked mandatory by the WBC!

Oh right, so a few years back when Gatti fought Ward, the sanctioning bodies were paragons of virtue, and their rankings were pristine and untainted by the desire for sanctioning fees.
Grow up mate.
The rankings are largely meaningless they are a guage of who is the most profitable fighter to move toward a shot at the title, nothing more, they are fornicate all to do with merit.

Read my earlier post, I said Witter is on the up. Witter would beat Leija, Branco and Dorin those guys are not genuine top 10 at 140.
The reason Witter has a high ranking with the WBC is because of the european title - are you aware that Euro champs get a high WBC rankings because of an affilliation with the EBU??

Mccdonnell,
Grow up??? Learn how to read! Just because I said nowadays, it doesn't mean that I think rankings was honest two years ago and if you had ever read any of my posts on the subject you would see how much I detest all of the sanctioning organizations! Besides, when Gatti fought Ward, the fight wasn't about rating at all, it was ameans for two old warriors to get a decent payday, for their years of satisifiying performances over the years, win, or lose...and neither, to my recollection, ever froze up against anybody the faced! Ward retired, Gatti reinvented himself and has proved it, Witter hasn't and he won't until he fights someoine worthy, but when he does that, that will probably be all we hear from Witter! So before attacking me about something you know nothing about, learn it!

Well it was kind of implied because of the way your statement is worded, and what precisely is it I 'know nothing about?'

>>>I 'know nothing about<<<
Just about my views of sanctioning bodies and how rankings are merited! Nothing about boxing in general!

Lets hope the fight happens I think Witter wins you think Gatti we'll see!
Like I keep saying you have to give Gatti's people credit they are doing wonders with him, he looked finished after the DLH fight. I still think the first big puncher with some ambition will beat him, he's there for the taking as far as I am concerned.

I agree, I think McGirt has done absolute wonders with Gatti, but Gatti could always box intelligently...he just ditched it for trench warfare for several years. I don't think he will beat Mayweather, but he has a chance because of his size compared to Mayweather. Witter has a lot of knockouts since Judah, against some fighters that had never been stopped before, and he decked N'Dou, which had never been done before, but he faded, or said he injured his hand. Therein lies the difference between Witter and Gatti! Witter almost loses because of an inju7ry, Gatti sucked it up when he has had broken bones and still did his thing without ever once, that I remember, givi8ng any excuses...even when he lost!

Witter still turned the tide though, that left hook in the 10th must have hurt that was his broken hand so I dont think you can question his heart throwing shots like that with a mashed fist!
McGirt has done great, I am also talking Gatti's promoters they have got him to a title and some defences without really being in a tough fight. I think the majority of the Boxrec top 10 beat him the only ones I wouldnt pick are Leija and Mitchell of this list.
Tszyu
Mayweather
Hatton
Cotto
Freitas
Harris
Gatti
Mitchell
Witter
Leija

Tszyu is the only one that I have little doubt about annilating Gatti.
Mayweather has the talent, but his life out side the ring could very easily hamper his in the ring performance. I really like Cotto, but I still need to see him get tagged by a wolrd class punchers, which Randall Bailey was, but I didn't see that fight. Harris looked like a middleweight the last time I saw him, but he still hasn't been overly impressive! Freitas doesn't need to try and move up to jr. welter, he'll have a hell of enough problems competeing with the very top lightweights! As to Gatti's title, I don't consider him a champion, Tszyu is the only champ at 140 and until someone defeats him, all others are just pretenders to the crown!

True. I just think Gatti is a little protected at the moment and although he's looked good the guy's he has been fighting have made him look better than he is.

Not really, Witter has been working his way up the rankings and winning British, Commonwealth and European belts so he's building towards a world title shot.
This is Gatti's last hurrah and they're stringing it out as long as possible. Next time he takes a pounding its all over I guess.
I just think the timing is right for Witter to beat him and take the title.
re

But it would be a bogus title even if he did beat Gatti, just like the belt that Harris is holding. Witter holding the three UK titles doesn't make his standing more important, even if Gatti is on his last hurrah, Gatti has been facing fighters who are at least ranked by Ring, who most people take more serious than any other rankings, which Witter has not. He has been moving up, but so has Gatti. Gatti isn't the top dog of the division, he just one of the top contenders, which he has earned by fighting other contenders and now he is suppose to be fighting Mayweather, who many call the P4P best. When Witter moves up to top ten competition and wins, then I won't argue, because he will have earned a spot by doing so!

Tszyu being out all that time didnt help matters, I think that was part of the reason they were compelled to fragment the belts. And extra sanctioning fees of course!!
What the hell happens if Tszyu moves up to welter? Does Harris stay WBA champ and the WBA Super Champ simply disappears or is Harris then super champ and someone gets to fight for his vacant belt??
