Perhaps instead of pushing him off he should have hit him again? I think Fury actually went easy on him there, considering he could have caused him permanent brain damage by punching a vulnerable KO'd fighter out on his feet again with a free shot?

I've never liked Lewis' KO of Mike Tyson, where he stopped him but then put his full weight on Mike to make sure he went down. This wasn't anywhere near as bad. Whyte is an abnormally strong huge man. The fact he went over so hard after a push-off meant he was totally done.

If it get's him back in the ring again and another payday I'm fine with it. But he was f*cked there and should just be dignified there and admit he lost to the better man.

Spot on. Be a man, hate all these fannies who try to make excuses for losing. He showed nothing during that fight other than he is slow and limited. It would have ended like it did, push or not.

What a load of bollox.

What he really needs to question is why he boxed so terribly.

He was literally stood square on when he got knocked out…. And at other times during the fight.

I've got a long post in me about it mate, but not tonight. I'll write something about it mid week and post it. Let's just say that it was entirely what I was expecting, and I wasn't expecting it to be a great night as a spectator just something I wanted to be at for historical reasons, and that all of those predicting it to be a violent nightmare kick off were all hysterical fannies that have only ever been to be big boxing event in their imaginations!

People say "if he didnt push him he would of hit him again and would of won" which is true, but hitting him again is legal. pushing is not.

but Even though it was a blatant foul, i dont think there was anything that could be done about it. even if you give whyte a couple of mins to recover, he shouldent be sent back in.

Indeed. Btw I just watched it again for first time since watching it live and the push is worse than i remembered. It was a full on shove across the ring. I've seen NC's given for much less (Chad vs Hopkins comes to mind). I don't think Whyte was ever recovering from that shot, and that seems to be discrediting his argument, but like the Cunningham fight, this one also ended with a foul.

People are obsessing over what would of happened if fury didn't push Whyte. But that's impossible to know.

Fact is he did, and it's a foul. And rethinking it in my opinion not a knock down.

So different question, what would of happen if fury pushed Whyte but ref didn't call it a knockdown?

My guess is Whyte takes 30 seconds to clear his head and get up. Ref warns fury for the push, and fight gets restarted nearly a minuet after the punch with Whyte partially recovered only having to survive 10 seconds to end the round and make it back to his corner.

Now, here's where my opinion gets weird, although that's what I think would have happened, I think in the above hypothetical Whytes corner should throw the towl (don't think they would)...

So while I think they got it wrong, I don't dislike the outcome.

Just throwing this in there as I've seen no one mention it (Or I haven't read everything 😁) but with a fall like that you don't have to hit your head on anything to get concussed. The snap on the head, faster than the brain, not seeing it coming, hitting your back/body hard (equiv is hard tackle to body in rugby) can do the same as actually hitting the head.

With the size of Whyte this is a possibility. Not saying it should be an excuse but does show some lack of understanding of concussion especially of Whyte (& his team's) behalf if they'd claiming he hit his head. Ergo the reddit thread claiming he didn't hit his head and therefore it doesn't matter is a moot point.

As others have said the push is illegal, the ref should be seeing that.

Whyte had shown himself happy to foul Fury as well, so it was in keeping with the nature of the fight. If I'd been the ref I'd have known the rules for such a thing, but supposing I were reffing as-is, I'd have given Fury a warning on his way to neutral as an ad-hoc way of giving Whyte a long count.

I think in this case, after a pretty dull fight, we can agree with the others and put it down as a ‘So what?’. But should Fury or anyone else do it again, this should be the precedent that gets it pulled up as a foul.

Re: Whyte's delusion about being in the fight, to be honest I don't entirely disagree. Fury landed a couple of decent headshots, and Whyte one or two good digs to the body, but as much as Fury clearly pulled away on points, neither were visibly hurt until the KO, and I wouldn't call Fury physically dominant. Technically dominant, sure, but I felt that was half down to Whyte's appalling fitness.

One of the worst things about the dreaded Harrison-Williams-Skelton merry-go-round was not knowing which Danny'd turn up, and this Whyte was certainky edging into Kipling territory for me. A shame, because he could've done so much better at 240 max.

If AJ ever fights Fury, at least he's unlikely to fall into the same trap as Wilder and Whyte of coming in heavy. If anything, 212 Wilder shows it's the opposite end of the weight spectrum that might trouble him. AJ at 238, say.

He gave him a wee push, big deal. Stuff like that happens in most fights,

What are folk suggesting?

That it stopped Whyte winning the fight?
That the fight should be a no contest?
That Fury should be disqualified and Whyte awarded the victory?

You've got to be pretty biased to try and engineer a Whyte victory based on what we saw on Saturday night. It's was about as one sided a world title fight as you'll ever get.

Agreed. I had a relatively minor enduro crash a couple of years ago and was surprised to have whiplash from it. Also lost half a tooth without realising for a while. I think being unconscious is often better for the body through relaxation, but then maybe the opposite for the brain?

Had it been a competitive fight, Ewen, with Whyte not gassing so hard, it'd stand out as more egregious. Just because Whyte was trailing on the cards and knackered doesn't mean we should totally dismiss it. Clear foul.

Yeah that's a fair point. However I think Whyte is dramatically overstating the impact of the push which probably doesn't help people's reaction to it.

No, none of the above. If i were the ref I'd have treated it in the same way as a low blow. No knockdown scored, Whyte given a couple of minutes to recover, soft warning to Fury not to push again.

I don't really care enough about this fight to be overly bothered by the outcome, and think the outcome would've been the same in any event, it was a great shot by Fury that shook Whyte to the soles of his boots. But the fact is that the push was a clear foul, it sent a hurt fighter (who was stumbling forward) sprawling backwards across the canvas, it's too much of a foul to just ignore imo.

Ref was having a hard time controlling it , lots of dirty rough stuff going on ,, it was a clear punch and a clear shove , Ok ref could of stopped and warned Tyson ,, but what then let Whyte carry on , the ref gave him ample opportunity to carry on it was,nt a quick stoppage Whyte was clearly out of it , and stuff him he only wants another payday ,,, facts are the guy got 7 million plus and could'nt even be bothered getting in shape for the HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE OF THE WORLD .

Fook him and Fook all the others like him , theres guys out there who work there bollocks off have to fight top competition , have to be in shape to go to war for 8-10 rnds for peanuts compared to what this guy got and they do it while there working full time jobs .

He does'nt deserve any fight never mind a rematch for millions thats if anyone would be stupid enough to pay to watch it

Had it continued even with 5 minutes to recover, surviving the 10-15 seconds remaining in the round without taking a shot and then having another minute in the corner to recover, I think Whyte would get quite violently KOd as the shot badly concussed him. He’d have been on wobbly legs after any kind of shot landed and he’d then have been finished.

Had the fight been called a no contest or a dq loss it would have been much more of an outrage than the asterisk there seems to be next to the Fury win.

Others will have their own opinion. Mine is that Fury won legitimately by tko.

He was out on the way down ffs. Fell on the seat on his pants.

Definitely a push but plenty worse in terms of fouls before then. Didn't affect the TKO whatsover.

Even discussing it demeans us all. Move on.

The push was just Tyson going there you go, job done.

No bearing on the fight whatsoever.
