Virtually no-one will pay annually though, with good reason. They’ve already proven they lied about having no PPV, so why would anyone ever sign up for a full year and trust they won’t just do it again?
So for most people who want to pick and choose their months (quite rightly, considering there have been months with absolutely zero new content), the price has doubled.
I pay for Prime yearly and I will pay for this yearly. I love watching boxing and they show boxing. Matchroom and Golden Boy do some great shows. Annually it's twenty seven pence per day. Weekly, it's more for a sandwich from Greggs. What is the big deal?
The big deal is you are committing to something with no guarantee of quality.
Plus the risk that for the first big fight that happens they will run PPV.
Was going to dip back in for a month for Wood v Lara but won't be doing that for 20 quid! The rest of the line up is poor so not fussed about missing out. Think they've thrown the baby out with the bathwater here.
It’ll probably work out cheaper for people to pay £19.99 for the fights they want to see on a ad-hoc basis. I doubt I’m there would be 5 in a year I’d be overly fussed to pay for. Assuming they don’t add PPV fee afterwards

Amazon Prime is a great comparison though. The fact that DAZN now costs more than double the price of Prime on a monthly basis just shows what poor value it is.
You can only determine value to someone based on how much of something they use or watch.
I pay for Netflix and watched something on Saturday on it. The last thing I’d watched on it previously was near 3 months ago. So I’m not going to renew next month. I could fully understand people cancelling DAZN in January when there was just one Golden Boy show on there for boxing.
That’s exactly why Netflix and Prime etc are popular - you can dip in and out whenever you want on a month by month basis. DAZN have just completely killed that casual market for themselves with these price changes. It makes zero sense from a business perspective.

Exactly. I wanted to watch the 'Arsenal: All or Nothing' series on Amazon a few months back... signed up for £7.99 a month, watched it in a few days, cancelled. Job done.
I wouldn't have done it if I had to sign up to a full year.

Yeah - it will limit the amount of casuals that join who can’t justify paying £19.99 a month or £100 for 12 months.
It doesn’t massively bother me though as aslong as we get 40 or so shows included for the £100 then it still works for me.
I’d imagine this will bring in more revenue for DAZN but subscriber numbers won’t increase much.
You can only go on facts whether the increase in fees and new contract arrangements are worth it, look back over the previous 12 months and see whether there were enough decent stuff to commit for a year and look at what is proposed and look who Matchroom now have in their stable and you can work out what you will get for the next 12 months.
Personally I won't, I would have done if I could dip into and out for 8 quid but if it floats your boat that's fine. Whether enough boats are floated that is a game changer

have we actually got this, so far, though (or anything close to it?)
i don't feel like there has been nearly that much, though I haven't been the best at keeping up with whats on and doubtless have missed a few euro cards/ etc

We got about 40 last year between Matchroom and Golden Boy.

Will they replace the Spain and Italy shows?
Who knows - hopefully. I’d like to think they do more Mexico and Australian shows.
Fans of boxing only were dreading DAZN buying BT and drastically increasing the price. They never bought BT, introduced PPV and gave YouTube Boxing a home… and still the price skyrocketed.

Just done a quick check. May be out by a few but I think 2022 was…
Matchroom (8 USA, 13 UK, 2 Spain, 2 Italy, 2 Mexico, 1 Australia and 1 Abu Dhabi) so 29 of which one was additional PPV (Canelo vs Golovkin).
Golden Boy did about 15 I think across the USA and Mexico.
And a couple of misfits if that gets anyone going.

wont affect me directly anyway as I dont subscribe to dazn or sky / bt .
Dazn are just another business needing or choosing to rejig the income / cashflow , but bcos its eddie people get shirty .
I can remember Sky giving away sat boxes dishes and free sports back in the 80s until they had enough people hooked and then overnight it went to a paid model .
They arent in business for any other reason than making money and lots of it .
Dazn still seems cheaper to me than Sky depending on your exact deal .
The complete Sky Sports pack is included at a knock down rate of just £20 per month – next best offer price (£25) / out-of-contract price (£33). BT Sport is now available direct from Sky and is included in this deal. BT Sport costs just £25 per month – next best offer price (£28).Jan 30, 2023

You can’t compare what Sky Sports package gives you compared to DAZN UK.
