I can't see how Fury doesn't take a bit hit to his reputation if he swerves this fight. It's already taken a thumping with the Chisora spar.

I tend to think if it doesn't happen in April then it wont happen at all.

I agree. It's not often that the stars are aligned where all the TV companies are on board, all the Governing bodies are on board, the two management teams work well together and one fighter has agreed terms for the fight to take place in Saudi. If it doesn't happen now, it never will. To the outsider, it does look like Fury doesn't fancy the job against Uysk.

It's also worth remembering that when Joshua and Fury looked like they were going to box, only for Fury to pull out and fight Wilder for the third time, Uysk was set to fight Joyce. He is the type of fighter to go in with anyone. He is in the Evander Holyfield, Lennox Lewis, Carl Froch mold. Fury, sadly, appears to be more Riddick Bowe. Its especially frustrating because, like Bowe, Fury can really fight.

It's interesting that Big Doofus has stopped posting. Previously, he had been certain that Fury vs Uysk would happen, but is now as quiet as Fury is when asked about Uysk.

Fury is all about risk reward, he had to take the risk to fight Vlad and Wilder if he wanted a title, once he's got them, it seems he wants the easiest fights for the biggest reward.

I thought the first knockdown in Wilder 3 was easily the hardest one of the trilogy. That took a lot out of Tyson.
Do you both really think so? Personally feel Tyson is by far the least battle weary of today's top heavies. Unless he's been pummeled mercilessly during sparring, think he's daisy fresh for a 12 round war if it came down to that.
Absolutely no way. In general, the body of a tall guy starts to break down earlier - it's inevitable due to biomechanics (longer levers and all that). Fury has reportedly duly struggled with elbow and knee problems recently. Also, you can only do so much ballooning up to 400 lbs then drop some 120 lbs again - but only to still carry around an extra 25-30 lbs of fat. Also also, there's the boozing and the gak snorting for most of his adult life.

Long story short, Fury's constitution is absolutely not daisy fresh. He is in the very last phase of his career. I can't see him fighting beyond 2023.
In 2007 I ran the Great North Run after inadvertently ending up on the p!ss the Saturday night before, still ran 1:37 which was pretty close to my PB.

How Fury has socially conducted himself out of the ring wasn’t where I was going.

Folks were loosely intimating Fury has taken damaging beatings in his career that have taken their toll.

I differ in opinion here, for me he is the least shop-worn of the top heavies out there.

I’d be more inclined to believe of the top heavies he’s mentally more unstable and likely to wilt, but physically, no.

He's been knocked down several times. Usyk doesn't have any miles on the clock. You can't give Fury a pass for getting sparked.

Give him a pass, are you a child?

In my opinion, if Fury is right of mind, he is physically best placed to see out a 12 round war…. If his chin holds that is which I think is more susceptible than the other top contenders.

I think with Fury he’s in danger of being exposed by a good fighter. He’s not pushing himself, he’s training in Morecambe, the opposition isn’t challenging, there’s long lay-offs. I think he knows it really, and therefore needs to avoid Uber skilled Usyk or the wear you down Joyce. He doesn’t want anything to do with Joshua either. I think I’m his head he just wants fighters he is sure he can beat but still get well paid for. Certainly by the time he gets to the age of Wlad when he beat him - 39 years, 248 days - I’d envisage him as a well-padded, balding middle-aged man, well-beaten at least once and retired. The window when he’s still athletically viable can’t be a big one - 2 years tops I’d say.

No worries.

Personally I think all those knock-downs have had more effect than the punches Usyk's been hit by.

Everything I've seen from Fury over the last few years, leads me to think that unless Usyk is prepared to take a pittance, the fight won't happen.

Fury's camp are already talking about a 4th fight with bloody Wilder.

What kind of champion will Fury be remembered as if he fought Chisora 3 times and Wilder 4 times in his prime.

I've lost interest in Fury - his fights with Wilder, especially the first and last one, were pretty entertaining - but he needs to be fighting top contenders, not just wild swinging dangermen.

The last fight with Chisora was an utter shiteshow. Embarrassing.

The thing is, if he doesn't want to be a proper champ, and unify the belts, just piss off and let someone else do the job.

Sadly, despite his protestations about not doing it for the money, that is precisely what he is interested in it seems. Fair play, he has a right to make as much as he wants, but I wish he would stop talking complete and utter shite.

Joshua did a good job of bringing the belts back together after Fury failed his PED test. Fury already said he wouldn't pay the IBF, so that may go vacant.

It doesn't look like there's much prospect of us having a long term undisputed champ any time in the near future - Fury isn't really interested in defending the belts against top opposition, Joshua is I think, pretty much done, and I don't think he will ever attain the perceived heighs pre Ruiz - I think that fight ruined him really mentally, and he's not a young man anyway.

Usyk won't be around much longer, few more fights and he's done, and he is unlikely if he did beat Fury (they would obviously have to fight first) to stay at the top long as he will be retiring soon.

Joyce is old (and slow) as a glacier - Dubois is a limited brawler, not really sure who the next big thing is, there's some young Cuban-American kid whose name escapes me although I've looked him up, Frank Sanchez - who is 30!

There are almost no good young prospects, Dubois might come again, but his limitations have been exposed, he just doesn't have a good boxing brain on him, and is easily derailed.

Hard to see an exciting future for the division.

That's pretty poor though, again, not likely to fight more than 2-3 fights max a year at that pace. At that stage of his career, unless he is a former amateur superstar, who had countless amateur fights - he needs to be out much more often to learn his trade.

I've heard his name mentioned, but doesn't look by his record he's being moved in the way you would a serious prospect, more than likely they'll pad out his record with some dubious 'names' and position him for a title shot that he will lose.

I know it sounds negative, but I'm not filled with optimism with the current heavyweight division, the rankings are filled with old farts.

Don't really understand why Fury is so disliked here. Or at least why he is held to a higher moral standard than all the other stars who don't engage in unification fights.

Because of the incredible volume of bullshit that comes from his tiresome mouth

I've read that Usyk signed for 50% of an allegedly huge Saudi pot, and Fury turned it down. He now wants a larger cut from the Wembley deal.

But here's the thing: how high a percentage would he need from Wembley to match the money he's already rejected? John was saying that Tyson didn't earn much from Klitschko and so deserves a lot more as champ, but it's not like Usyk's a regular challenger with no belts.
