Re: If Not Usyk, Then Who Fills Fury's April 29th Dance Card?

It's going to be DDD. ![[icon_witsend.gif] :witzend:](./images/smilies/icon_witsend.gif)
Lol, that can't be true.
the greatest love story in boxing

Maybe nobody. Perhaps without a Fury fight he retires. Perhaps he boxes one of the mandatories and keeps the plates spinning whilst he waits for a WBC title fight to unify 4.5 belts. What he certainly won't do is mouth off about all the people he is going to smash to bits as a fighting man blah blah and then not do anything he said.
The bout was never going to happen anyway. Fury could have fought Usyk last year but pulled out of the negotiations to demand an easy fight against the nowadays chinny uppercut magnet Whyte. When his hands are not tied ( = fighting Wlad in Germany or fighting Wilder to build his career back up after his PED ban), Fury only fights people he knows he can beat. All Fury cares about is his artificial 0-loss record and money.
I have noticed that fans have started to call him Dreary Feary on social media. I think a lot of boxing fans have seen through him now.887986 wrote: ↑24 Feb 2023, 18:33The bout was never going to happen anyway. At this point, I wish nothing but bad luck and misery for Fury in his professional life. May his WWE gimmicks flop, and may he lose popularity which will hit him where it hurts him the most: his market value. The way he has been wasting everyone's time and derailed everyone's plan in the HW division is inexcusable and I hope boxing fans will never forgive him for how he single-handedly prevented us from seeing what could have been the biggest and most important HW match of this century so far.

I would not have minded the Ngannou fight if it happened immediately after Whyte. Or if it happens immediately after Usyk. I have a feeling since Ruiz has signed with Eddie Hearn he might get a two-fight deal with Fury where Tyson gets both Ruiz and Joshua or some combination of Ruiz-Joyce-Joshua since Joyce is with Queensbury and it be easy to make.
You wouldn't have minded an elite boxer fighting someone who's never boxed before?HomicideHenry wrote: ↑25 Feb 2023, 01:40I would not have minded the Ngannou fight if it happened immediately after Whyte.
It’s a nonsense! The stance in UFC is totally different to boxing so they don’t get push off-balance too easily and get taken down. Ngannou would be all over the place just trying to get his feet right when moving, and Fury would be hitting him at will and having the easiest spar of his life. It would be a seriously awful spectacle which would only last until Ngannou was completely exhausted.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑25 Feb 2023, 06:31You wouldn't have minded an elite boxer fighting someone who's never boxed before?HomicideHenry wrote: ↑25 Feb 2023, 01:40I would not have minded the Ngannou fight if it happened immediately after Whyte.
It's a good job Fury's not in for the money.polecateddy wrote: ↑25 Feb 2023, 06:52It’s a nonsense! No because many good or great champions had crossover bouts like Mayweather, Ali, Walcott, Moore, Holyfield, Berbick, etc. Novelties are not a bad thing. Besides, had the Ngannou fight took place immediately after Whyte it'd of been perfectly acceptable because Whyte was the mandatory challenger for nearly three years. As long as you're doing mandatories and truly important fights, you can throw in a gimme (ie, Chisora) or a novelty.keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑25 Feb 2023, 06:31You wouldn't have minded an elite boxer fighting someone who's never boxed before?HomicideHenry wrote: ↑25 Feb 2023, 01:40I would not have minded the Ngannou fight if it happened immediately after Whyte.
Mayweather, Ali, Walcott, Moore, Holyfield and Berbick,'s 'novelties' were either a one sided beat down or a disaster. If you love boxing, you can't advocate this.HomicideHenry wrote: ↑25 Feb 2023, 07:02No because many good or great champions had crossover bouts like Mayweather, Ali, Walcott, Moore, Holyfield, Berbick, etc. Novelties are not a bad thing. So they get a pass but Tyson Fury doesn't?keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑25 Feb 2023, 07:13Mayweather, Ali, Walcott, Moore, Holyfield and Berbick,'s 'novelties' were either a one sided beat down or a disaster. No, none of them get a pass. All the novelty fights were farce.HomicideHenry wrote: ↑25 Feb 2023, 22:31So they get a pass but Tyson Fury doesn't?keithmoonhangover wrote: ↑25 Feb 2023, 07:13Mayweather, Ali, Walcott, Moore, Holyfield and Berbick,'s 'novelties' were either a one sided beat down or a disaster. I call horseshit.
I also don't think it is right to say one isn't a proper boxing fan if you happen to like crossover matches. I know some people like to get pretty snobby with boxing acting as if it's complete and total blasphemy to do anything else but have boxing matches if you are a contender or champion, but if we're going to go down that same road then a contender or champion should never be able to do commercials or act in television or movies, etc.
If it was good enough for John L Sullivan to have a match with William Muldoon or Bob Fitzsimmons to have a match with Ernest Roeber, etc then we shouldn't be so snobby about modern heavyweights engaging in similar matches that only bring in more attention or fans to the sport.
