I bet apart from myself and Eric no one in the boxing circles has this Eastman debut fight.
This is one reason his tapes cannot go into a skip. There will be rare footage no one else has captured or still got.

His collection will have a ton of interesting fights featuring future professionals and champions.
I always find it fascinating seeing amateur bouts between two guys who later went on to be successful professionals.
The invention of the internet more or less ruined Eric’s business.
He should have gotten an investment maybe.
Digitalised them all and posted them on YouTube.
Made money of it.
Came across as quite a stubborn man when he posted on here, and as others alluded to, he knew better. Sad to see him do go fund me's when he was in ill health and the family doing them for the funeral now, one of the characters of the sport that we'll likely never see again and may he rest in peace.

Eric was mates with Dave Hall. Dave is from Doncaster and he sent me loads of tapes to convert.

Unfortunately I'm not going to restart it I tried it twice. With my 2500 fights and the fights I put on with Dave Halls content we I amassed over 3500 fights in all. A media company who own the rights to Tony Tubbs fights reported me 3 times along with Eric and a few other music companies.

The copyright to boxing bouts seems odd. Can remember both Eric and allegedly (or his representatives) going ape over shows that were on sky being sold via tape traders. Warren claiming he had the rights, similarly Eric saying that he had a deal with the bbboc, but the end credits said copyright bskyb so surely both were wrong. It was confusing.

With small hall shows there were no television camera present so I'm guessing no one had the rights to recording rights.
The issue for my channel was entrance walks, often songs are played but I'm again guessing on shows were these songs declared declared as a licence product for entertainment purposes. You just can't play songs for free, again I'm guessing. This is why you require a wireless licence if you have your radio on in a public place. Working for the NHS I know we can't play radio 2 for example where the public can hear.
Everyone wants a piece of the pie if you are making money.
On my channel I did state before every show I put up it was for educational purposes and I was not profiting from the content I was putting up. I was not monitorising my channel.

There’s a guy I know. He started a channel called Fight Club 24/7. On Instagram. He has YouTube as well.
I don’t know if you remember. But when Dustin Porier was fighting once. Conor McGregor put a tweet up. He was watching the fight and pacing around the room.
He reposted it on his IG and they blocked his account for copyright based on what was on McGregor’s tv.

I put a lot of classic British bouts along with a few US classics on the FB group Ex-Boxers. As there are a lot of ex pros on there I would post some of their fights.
I started to get reports from various sources again because of the music content on the ring walks. Most got removed and warnings given.
Waste of time trying to share footage now.

I have 100s of tapes from 90 to around 2000 from all the shows off uk tv. They are going in the skip in a couple of weeks. Just sitting in huge plastic crates.
Ah the days of setting vhs timers.

I remember phoning Paul Boyce (promoter) if I could tape two of Scott Gammers higher profile cards as it was not on tv (vs Julius Francis and vs Mark Krence). He was really thankful that I asked and had no problem with it. Unfortunately my video skills were not like Eric's so they were really not viewable.
I always found Eric's claims that he had exclusivity over Bbboc cards (whether televised or not) slightly odd....even for bills he couldnt attend.
PS just to note I didnt receive any conversations/threats from Eric over the Gamner fights, there is no way I could sell them given the quality of my recording.

The promoter of the event owns all the rights to that event. It's exactly the same as a music concert, you can't record it and think you own the rights to that recording. Most / all promoters would turn a blind eye to Eric and Ken Morton who used to video a lot of Northern shows. Ken would always send you a copy of his tape of your show in appreciation. But turning a blind eye to someone selling a few tapes by hand does not imply a right to commercialise those recordings.

I remember dumping all my Boxing News, had full collection from early 80s to around when it went to colour publication

Boxing Monthly sellers must have made a killing with vhs and dvds back in the day and were breaking the law. Boxing Monthly must have known this but money talks i guess.

The rights belong to the photographer/videographer unless written agreements in place.
