The Briedis win is massive, especially with a broken jaw for 10 rounds. In recent interviews Jai sounds like a caged tiger prepared for anything. I can't see anything but a win for the Aussie. You got a prediction, handsofstone?

I'd have to favour Opetaia tbh but the fact that I've only seen him fight once leaves some questions, Briedis was a great win obviously but Briedis seems more interested in clout chasing Jake Paul these days, maybe he underestimated Opetaia

weird how beating the world #1 is something to just be disregarded

jai is very good. i was calling him over briedis well before the fight. olympian at 17, showing all sorts of unteachable talent in the ams and in his previous pro fights. then beats the top man in the world. it's a mystery that this guy is good? his opposition wasnt great prior to briedis but it was better than thompson has faced and he never had any sort of scare like jordy did vs ducar against it. showed lots of heart and toughness vs briedis too.

disappointed by how few women's fight there are on this card tbh

Opetaia for me but it may go the distance.

I don’t have a massive issue with women’s boxing but have said before they should limit it to one women’s fight on a main card.

A bit crazy how many are on this one though.

I’m interested to see the main event and I like the Cheavon Clarke fight too. But the rest?

Would have been the perfect card for Johnny Fisher in a 10 round title defence. I think they’re saving him for a US show next time out though.

He beat the guy at the top, who's only loss was to Usyk. If you only see that as a decent win, there's something wrong with you.

I’d seen a bit of the chat on the canelo charlo thread and was all set to resubscribe to DAZN for a month to see that fight and Warrington Wood - excellent value at £20.

I’m only vaguely aware of Opetaia but having a bona fide world title fight to watch on Sat only added to my perception that I was getting a good deal. But then I read yours and maggie’s comments and so now I know I face the prospect of sitting through what is it 3 women’s fights, which will all go the distance, along with the attendant hype about what great stuff we’re watching from the DAZN pundits before I get to watch the world title fight and it puts me off resubscribing.

Why does Eddie stack his cards with women’s fights ? Is it just a cheaper way to fill cards or is he bringing more advertising revenue to DAZN as big businesses seek to display their woke credentials by advertising on what is primarily a night of female boxing ?

He’s a shrewd guy, he must’ve crunched the numbers and decided that for every fan like me who’s put off by having this stuff foisted on me there are more fans out there who like (or will tolerate) it.

Out of the 4 women’s fights I think only 2 will be on the main show. The Scotney fight is poor but I don’t mind the Rhiannon Dixon European title fight. Even still one women’s fight on the main card is enough.

A show like this isn’t generating much in the way ticket sales. Probably be 2,500 people there tops and it’s not a big show for DAZN either so I’d imagine they were looking to keep costs down. Ad revenue is a small % of a show’s income.

Would have been a perfect show for Johnny Fisher as co-main.

Despite the poor undercard (saying that I quite like the Cheavon Clarke fight), you’d still get a fair bit of value for £20 if you sub tomorrow I think.

Opetaia was getting mentioned as a possibly opponent for Fury back in May. Now he's topping Ladies' Night against a relative novice.
I've never seen Thompson before, but it sounds like he's picked up good sparring experience against Fury and Usyk, so it could be interesting, certainly with his size as well.

He fighting Thompson

Liked Jai when he was a young kid in the ameteurs , but too be honest i never thought he would get anywhere , UNLESS he left Australia and based himself overseas ,, Seems like i was wrong and more than happy to be wrong .

But good day tomoro , of to bed in a minuite its 11.30 get up at around 4 am , watch the Opetia card , or the majority of it .that will finish dunno 7-8 am
, gonna be warm so shove the kayak in the sea have an hr or so padling around hopefully catch some squid , lucky just near me 3 minuites drive is a good spot with a lot of reef , just under the water , big abundance of squid , i've been catching them there for 25 years , seems like i'm the only one who ever goes there , i ALWAYS go out there in my kayak , never go in my boat , and neither do others , its easy to lose anchors bit of a secret spot , , come hme brekky shower , chill out and put the Canelo fight on ,usually start around 10.30 -11 , that will take me usually them cards to about 2.30 ,,

bit of a nana nap in the afternoon ,, wake up around 4-5 pm ,, fire the bbq up few beers couple mates coming around settle down and watch the rugby league grand final .. Went fishing last week caught our quota of big whiting 30 on the boat , and around 20 squid , , swapped half the whiting for 2 kilo of prawns ,

So thats food for the barby took care off, nice whiting , squid , and prawns .

Life is good at the moment , sport all day topped off with a barby and beers

Firstly, what a nice change to have a face-off for the cameras then a bit of amiable chit chat and a respectful handshake.
You have got to expect Opetaia to get the win but largely because Thompson has yet to step up to the very top level and has only had 3 or 4 against people who might have wanted to win so its a bit unknown what level he is currently at. That said, Jai was in the same position one contest ago.
Odd that Thompson is the giant but it's Opetaia who looks tighter at the weight.
I expect Opetaia to win, probably on points. He likes to box and pot shot but best bet against a giant is to just maul them like a bear and I think he has the engine to do that.
