I'm guessing that there's more than meets the eye here. I doubt that the WBO have much involvement; after all, they allowed Calzaghe to totally ignore Fremann Barr for 3 years or so. So I doubt they actually care about forcing Calzaghe to face a guy who he's already knocked out (in a mandatory defence, natch) in a round a few years ago.

It seems that the WBO have been lent on by the Germans here, which is significant only for the fact that it shows that Warren has less pull than his counterparts at Sauerland/Universum. Either way, it's all bollocks.

As for people saying the Hatton/Zoo fight is now looking more likely to be called off: Well, I understand where people are coming from. But surely fornicating that one up would signify the end of Mr Warren? There's too much riding on it. I'm not holding my breath though.

Back to Joe: From a fan's point of view, he should just fornicate off the WBO and fight Beyer, or Lacy, or Kessler. But I can't blame him for taking the 700 grand to fight Veit again.

Overall though, there is one overriding message: We, as fans, are being shat upon. Again.

My guess is that it'll be swept under the carpet, with a casual reference towards 'outside factors' ruining the Calzaghe fight. (At least that's my guess as to what Dempsey will say). Followed by half an hour about how brave/tough Eammon Magee is.

As for the Hatton/Zoo fight: If that gets called off, Sports Network will have U.S. T.V. to answer to, and they'll really be in the shit as a major player, so I still can't see that one being pulled.

Cannot believe a so called profesional promoter does'nt get it sanctioned before its announced. All sounds like bollocks to me. But why should they worry they can't lose any credibility they never had any.

THe WBO is a joke, and I always thought they were hand in glove with allegedly, why else would we get Michael Jennings in the top 3 of their rankings ( no offence, MJ is a good bloke but has fought no one).

Nearly every FW fight is for the WBO belt, and once he has hold of them, there never seems to be a enforced mandotry defence. So why is it now that the wbo are suddenly enforcing? Maybe because they are a 2 - bit amateur outfit and forgot their own rules as they were never read???

What a shock, a fight involving Joe Calzaghe fails to materialise.

In sport and in person Calzaghe often comes across as a complete prick. However, in a business sense this is a very good move, in that it was a nothing fight anyway - why risk the big payday for it? Ignoring his sicknote history, I would probably have done the same in this particular case.

I was quite looking forward to spending the night in front of the boxing, to be honest can't say the thought of watching Eamonn hop round the ring is getting me too excited. This whole sorry episode leaves a bad taste in the mouth.

If Sicknote is struggling with the weight dump the belt and move up dont keep ripping off the fans. I thought it was funny that Sicknote announced he had started using a dietician/nutritionist only about a week before the fight, presumably that's working towards a May fight date as there's little they can do in the week leading up to a fight its more long term I'd say. So they've known a while he wasn't going to make the weight I think.

Same here, I was going to a comedy show then coming home to watch 'Fr4nk W4rr3n presents World Championship Boxing'. It was due to be laughs all round this Friday.

Horrible as it sounds to say, I think that's what all fighters who go the WBO/WBU route are all about.

I think this too. I remember something similar occured before one of his other pull-outs. Wish I had a photographic memory so I could remember which one.

There have been so many pullouts its hard to remember the excuses. The guy's a wanker plain and simple and I'd love to tell him so. He might give me a couple of slaps with the inside of his fist but I'd be alright. ;)

I'll be happy to watch Eamonn Magee, he deserves a bit of credit no matter what his performance is like. I take my hat off to him.
