I did some research on the issue and it appears Boxrec has deleted the WBA history because the WBA is working with a competitor in the boxing community known as Fight Fax. I've never heard of fight fax.
Fight Fax used to publish a book every year called The Boxing Record Book. It was as thick as what the old phone books used to be. It would have the entire record of every boxer who fought in that year. Some of them are for sale on eBay. You could also order individual records of boxers for $10 each which would be emailed as an attached document. The records were not as complete as on BoxRec because Fight Fax does not list fights that were not sanctioned. However, if there was a title at stake, it would be listed. It did not matter whether it was from a major sanctioning body. Even IBA and IBC belts were recognized. Fight Fax now does their own ratings on its website. That was one advantage that BoxRec had over Fight Fax because Fight Fax did not used to do their own ratings. They were just a record keeper. Now it seems that they are trying to compete with BoxRec in this regard.
Competition is a part of life and typically improves the product. It appears that Boxrec has decided to not try improve their product with this situation and is content on going backwards. I'm dissapointed by this as like I've said before I like boxrec.

yes indeed, it is very dissapointing to say the least.
It also seems very petty to me.

If you look someone like Usyk and his fight profile, you can see that WBC, WBO and IBF titles are still there to be seen but WBA title is not there anymore. And this goes for every fighter who holds/has held a WBA title. Is this a bug? What happened?
Which one? Regular, Gold, or Silver?

Dmitri Bivol has never been a world champion according to Boxrec... unless you count the IBO

For boxrec to erase the records of a sanctioning body at the same time as a former competitor reappears is a strange decision.
In BS I read:: “So I think that he has some good ideas (Turki Alalshikh) but, already, his desire for control and his ego are threatening to undercut these positive aspects. He clearly does not like it when people say no to him – whether that be Canelo Álvarez or John Sheppard of BoxRec. That seems ominous to me.”

Wonder what he wanted to do with Boxrec... Control over rankings?

That's why I wish the management would at least let us know the reason behind their decision.
It's not a difficult thing to do!

I doubt that the WBA would not want their titles listed on BoxRec. The ratings on Fight Fax for male and female boxers do not make sense to me. I know there will probably be changes as they try to improve. It is known that BoxRec does not recognize any of the titles of some sanctioning bodies and sometimes do not recognize secondary titles from other sanctioning bodies while recognize their world titles. I think this decision to erase WBA history from BoxRec was made by BoxRec. I am sure that the boxers who have been or are current WBA champions do not like it and boxing journalists who use BoxRec frequently would not like it either.

Boxrec was a lot easier to read 10-15 years ago.

Every fighters profile record would list a lot more info... Any title, WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO, IBO, WBA, IBA, regional, international, commonwealth, European, domestic national etc.

Also judges names and scores, if known, referees name. Venue too.

...took a little more space up, but was much more informative, without having to click to new pages, or go researching elsewhere.

I don't like this new listing format.

Yeah, i have to expand each fight invididually, and its a lot more messy to read even after that than it used to be.

I don’t think that the WBA can stop someone from writing “this is the WBA champion”….even if they wanted to.

Boxrec has always been comically terrified of being sued. No birthdates, cant mention allegedly, etc etc etc.

Then I guess the GDPR precautions don't apply to all the other websites that give their DOB's?

Of course they apply. Boxrec obviously is being more cautious. One GDPR breach could end this site.

Thank you.
You won't get one.

I was a Boxrec editor for more than 20 years, completely voluntary.

A few months ago in what may have been a precursor of this, the WBA Asia and Continental titles disappeared. A promoter of an event which featured them asked me why. I said I didn't know but would ask. I put the question in the Editors' forum and was kicked out, had my editor's login cancelled, and a polite request via PM for an explanation was ignored.
You were so right Oliver. No explanation has been forthcoming..
What happened to common decency? This is madness.

Remember when they were doing the re-design? Some of us pushed back on what they wanted to do, which was make everything look like it was on a phone, each fight being a big colorful box about 2 inches high so you could only see about 4 fights per page.

They did make it more "phone-like" but not quite as bad as their mockups suggested it could have been.
