Junior welterweights Sam Eggington and Lee Cutler will meet on April 20 in Birmingham, and are expecting their fight to unfold in a proverbial “phonebox”.
Veteran Eggington, 31, will be boxing in front of his hometown fans at the Resorts World Arena, hoping to improve on his 35-9 (20 KOs) record.
Wearing a baseball cap with No Excuses written across it, Eggington said he had not seen much of Cutler, who is from Bournemouth, but said he was ready for a good fight. At today’s press conference in London, Eggington said: “I don’t really watch too much boxing, so I’ve never really watched Cutler box. I saw bits of him when we were on the same show the other year, but from what the coaches have told me, he likes to come forward and throw shots and we will meet there, and see how it ends.”
Eggington has fought in several Fight of the Year contenders, and hopes are high for this clash. And the Birmingham “Savage” believes he has plenty left to offer.
“I enjoy my boxing. When I’m training and boxing, I love what I’m doing, so the ambition is to keep a job that you want to do,” he said. “The bouts are great, you get paid well, but I enjoy boxing and the ambition is to keep on doing it at a high level.”
Cutler once bought a ticket to watch David Haye fight Tony Bellew at the O2 Arena in London and Sam Eggington defeated Paulie Malignaggi on the undercard. “It seems like yesterday,” said the Bournemouth man, who had lost an amateur fight the night before. “It’s weird how life works out. Now I’m here fighting him. It’s an honor to be here and fight on this sort of stage, and I can’t wait to show what I’m made of. Again.”
Cutler, 15-1 (7 KOs), was the underdog when he boxed Ireland’s Stephen McKenna in December, but wound up winning a thriller over 10 rounds, flooring McKenna twice.
“A lot of people doubted me,” he said. “Me, my coach and my team know what we do in the gym. I’m part of the best country in the stable now, the McGuigan Gym, under Josh Pritchard, and I’m just improving all the time. Every spar I’m getting better and better and I can’t wait to show it.
“Sam Eggington is the biggest name on my record now, or will be, and from there (I will) hopefully go on and headline down in Bournemouth. But I need to get through Sam before I can do that.”
Asked what type of fight he expected, Cutler said: “In a phonebox. That’s what I’ve been working on.”
Eggington replied: “That’s meat and drink, I’ll take that every day and twice on Sunday. I’ve got no bad words to say about him. It’s a fight and we’re both there to win.”

Seems Boxxer may have lost its US TV deal with NBC Peacock. Expired and not being renewed, according to report.

Cameron has been going around as if he won a world title. Getting hair transplants and going on like he has won the fight. I thought he was taking over and Whitaker was in trouble but Whitaker will have been putting in the hard yards for this as he is aiming for bigger things and his reputation as a quitter is now out there. I hope Cameron has been doing the same but I doubt it. If Cameron came in with the same type of attitude and fire as the first fight I think he can win. But hes been spending a few quid, happy with his contract now which probably guarantees some future money, loving his new found respect and fame. I'm not sure he's putting in the hard work in the gymnasium as Jim Watt would say. I think Whitaker will come in fighting negatively. Cameron should take over and win it. If I see some evidence that he's actually put in a training camp then I'll pick him. To me it seems like he might have peaked in his mind. This could be what he sees as hes "made it". He's been seeming too happy and content and saying he's basically made it now. I want a hungry fighter in the ring who is coming in with the mentality of a pitbull having seen a piece of meat being thrown in the garden. I don't want a pitbull thats been getting grooming classes, hair transplants, and competing in dog pageants for the last few months. Make no mistake, Whitaker will know what people think happened last time and every day he will have been getting the work done since.

I reckon Whittaker will win, I think he probably underestimated Cameron and came close to losing so he should prepare properly this time. Whittaker on points.

id lean whittaker too, but it's worrying that he had such a problem with cameron. cameron until then had been beaten by every notable opponent he'd faced. i think whittaker lack of power to hold off a charging opponent, and what seemed last time to be a major lack of toughness, could make a night hard at any good level even if he comes prepared for it

Normally I'd say lightning doesn't strike twice. I'd expect whittaker to fix the main problem from the first fight (total complacency ahead of it) and arrive prepared to outfox Liam on way to decision win.
But the way he seemed to mentally crack when the fight turned against him is a red flag. He's done emotional things before in the amateurs. Maybe has an issue with controlling his emotions, keeping mental fortitude.
He's changed trainers as well after that last fight. That one is always 50-50 for me. Sometimes a good thing but sometimes indicates a boxer hopping around looking for "the magic bullet" rather than addressing his own issues or shortcomings.
He's a better boxer than Liam but seemed ill-equipped for a brawl. Be interesting to see what he does he. I still expect he wins a decision but it's not a dead cert.
If he doesn't win, it's over. Even if he has a poor performance or wins a dodgy close decision - that's not going to rehabilitate his brand. He needs an emphatic win here in full whittaker-showboat style.

He needs to do a prime Naseem on him to redeem his career and reputation, outbox him and finish him inside the distance then can say the first match was a fluke and something was wrong.
A hometown decision or similar won't be enough, interesting fight to predict

Nice post
Agree about mentally cracking, these flashy fighters need an answer when it is really being put on them.
The whole tide of that fight had changed just before (and I believe he copped out) the out of ring incident that stopped the fight.
The only guys this century in my opinion that could back up that flashy showboating were Mayweather and Loma.

Speaking of trenches, there wouldn't be many ahead of Sam Eggington if you were looking for someone to be stood next to you. Top lad.

The problem for Ben is he lacks power so is unlikely to get him out of there. Cameron is also way too good to do all the flashy stuff against, the stuff that gained Whittaker all the views.

Whittaker was suited to the ameteurs , flashy , fast , quick twist muscles , and above all , BIG GLOVES and refs that will put a count on at the drop of an hat , then in the pro's old , slow or just not very good opponents who he could show boat on look good and just become a complete tosser who took pride in humiliating lesser opponents , he became the one thing that is guaranteed to get me personaly hoping a boxer gets ko'ed , a BAD WINNER , his management shold of took him aside and told him theres a difference between cocky , arrogance and showboating .
This fight Cameron for me , he has been the first pro who understood how to beat him , by just simply putting it on him , don't chase and make him look good , just simply keep balanced , take one give one and let him fold when he gets hit , and thats excatly what happenned , Only thing beats Cameron this fight is Cameron , if he chases him and looks clumsy he may but to start with Quitiker is gonna go in lacking he one thing his style of fighter needs confidence , Cameron hits hard early lets Whitiker know he's n another fight , his confidence will go quickly he will get tentative , slow down and quit again .
Plays his cards right Cameron stoppage , if Cameron starts seeing stars in his eyes and eying the future , he could let Whittaker back in , , Hit hard hit early , rough him up , throw him around , rag doll him and it will be an easy night at the office .
Think this all depends on Cameron , , a grit the teeth i'm gonna smash and hurt you Cameron , scares Ben , a cocky i've already got it won Cameron , allows the Ben to take over ,, Ben has the skills , and speed to get the result , Cameron has the power , chin , and confidence not to let him ,
This one is gonna be a mental game and i think Cameron is mentaly stronger , just hope he's not eying future fights and taking his eyes of the prize

I took the time to rewatch the first fight tonight and I came out thinking that Whitaker is overhyped. He is not very accurate with his shots and doesn't pack much power. One thing I think he realised in the fight was that Cameron doesn't like it to the body. I think he will be going to the body a lot in this one. It looked like Cameron definitely started to take over when he upped his workrate in the fifth and Whitaker did slow down and was more stationary. I have absolutely no doubt that Whitaker jacked the fight. Took his way out. I would pick Cameron again but I simply don't trust him for reasons I've previously said. I think he has probably been enjoying himself after that performance and respect. Can't forget that he tested positive for cocaine twice according to the BBBoC, heres a question - has he had a few sniffs in the last few months? I hope not but he had a lot to celebrate. I found his explanation of his positive test funny in the BBBoC report
"He claimed unintentional ingestion via handling cash contaminated with cocaine, which he bit his nails after touching"
"UKAD’s expert, Professor David Cowan, stated that the level of cocaine metabolite in Cameron’s system was too high to have come from banknote contamination"
It's not really a PED though is it. I thought the ban was harsh.
I do hope Cameron does us all a favour and gets rid of Whitaker and he really can do it but he needs to have taken this seriously. Stay with Whitaker, expect to lose the first 3, consistently jab, high guard and then start coming on after the third. Make Whitaker work. Whitaker won't know how to survive when hes tired and hurt and will look for a way out. Whitaker was starting to get hit with the overhand right in the fifth and I thought it was interesting how his gumshield went to the floor a few moments afterwards from a jab. Really interesting coincidence, although I don't really believe in coincidences in boxing. He's experienced enough to be able to do something like that to buy time. Shortly after that he was over the ropes. His heart is suspect but more importantly, his stamina is suspect. Get him tired, and he will fall apart I think.

For Whittaker, if he is to reach the higher level that he has been hyped to do, he will need to go into the trenches.
He isn't a banger, and will need to go the long route, so he will need to demonstrate a big engine, different plans, be able to make adjustments, and big balls too

Was obviously happy with his trainer , when he was given cannon fodder ,, after he shows a complete lack of heart and determination , its his trainers fault , Andy Lee may well be turning into a decent trainer , BUT he can't teach HEART ,

Sucks when a boxer drops his team after a bad performance.
Cameron has set a clear path to beating Quiticker for future opponents. If Quittie can't find a bit of power then everyone is gonna put it on him and weather the storm.
I also hope you and yours weather the storm too Coneye

Yep agree , its always gonna take a decent boxer to put it on him , because he's so fast , , but a guy who can keep his balance show good defence, be pateint , and HIT HARD will always be the one too do it ,
Were not near the storm , but Jeez last couple years it seems , Half of Australia is either on fire or under water , Insurance costs here are skyrocketing

Cameron on talksport saying that Boxxer accidentally sent him a contract for a 12 rounder and are trying to change it to a 10 but he's not budging, good for him
