Wilder stopped him in the 7th, dropped him in 2nd and 6th.
Edit. Just seen clip, ref jumped in while Herndon on his feet, looked like a poor stoppage

Re: Deontay Wilder vs. Tyrell Herndon | BLK Prime - 27 June 2025
I watched the full fight. Horndon was knackered and ready for getting stopped from early in the sixth but Wilder has no nuance whatsoever and couldn't put one of his sloppy shots properly on target.
The stoppage in the seventh was early but tbf to the ref, Herndon had been giving off negative vibes for some time.
AJ v Wilder is the fight, they both look in shape and can sell a show. Casuals will buy into it. Two gunslingers with crap defences, questionable chins and big personalities. Ker-ching.

Did Wilder look any better than he did against Parker and Zhang or still gun shy and tentative?Jimmy2025 wrote: ↑28 Jun 2025, 02:01 I watched the full fight. Nothing was coming back at him. He was less reckless than when he was younger. That could be wariness, probably was. Sloppy but powerful as ever.Controversial wrote: ↑28 Jun 2025, 02:23Did Wilder look any better than he did against Parker and Zhang or still gun shy and tentative?Jimmy2025 wrote: ↑28 Jun 2025, 02:01 I watched the full fight. Wilder looked trash again but at least he got a win this time, his power wasn't up to much despite the knockdowns, Herndon was terrible although the stoppage wasn't great, but who cares I guess?

It was a good moment to stop, for me. Herndon wasn't doing anything out there other than sticking his head between Wilder's legs hoping to be powerbombed or something. As someone said somewhere else, he was just a moving punchbag. Wilder couldn't connect cleanly either and didn't seem to have the old power so it just dragged on and on. That fast snap punch from Deontay has probably gone forever.handsofstone wrote: ↑28 Jun 2025, 05:14 Wilder looked trash again but at least he got a win this time, his power wasn't up to much despite the knockdowns, Herndon was terrible although the stoppage wasn't great, but who cares I guess?

Just seen more of it, Wilder jabbed a lot more than I remember him ever doing and seemed to throw more but as you say he didn’t have anything really coming back at him. I thought his legs didn’t look right though. Can’t see him doing much anymore especially at 40Jimmy2025 wrote: ↑28 Jun 2025, 03:26Nothing was coming back at him. DEONTAY WILDER: TWO MORE TUNE-UPS AND A 'LOT MORE WORK TO DO', THEN ANTHONY JOSHUA FIGHT
Deontay Wilder got back into the win column Friday with a seventh-round stoppage win in a tune-up fight against Tyrrell Herndon.
Following the victory, just the second in six fights since 2020 for the embattled former heavyweight champion, Wilder (44-4-1, 43 KOs) emphasized he's not diverging from the plan he came in with, outlined by two more tuneups in 2025 before a big one in 2026.
"It felt really good and it was a blessing to get back in there and get the rust off," Wilder told The Ring from his dressing room after the fight at Charles Koch Arena in Wichita, Kansas.
"I'm satisfied with the performance, but I'm also not satisfied because there is more to come. I wanted him to throw a little bit more but I appreciate Herndon for dedicating himself. I wanted to work on some countering with the overhand right hand. I don't think he was expecting me to throw the hooks that I was throwing. I wanted to display more than just a right hand."
Wilder rebounded from back-to-back losses to Joseph Parker in 2023 and Zhilei Zhang last June to drop the outmatched Herndon in the second and sixth before ending matters during the seventh in a main event fight staged by Global Combat Collective and BLK Prime.
"A lot of people don't understand how severe my shoulder injury was, or what I have been through, and they'll never understand,” said Wilder. "They don't want to hear any excuses from the fighters. I did the best that I could do to cover it up in my last several fights.
"My shoulder was at like 20 percent. But I'm a fighter and a warrior. I had to do my thing. Now that it's all recovered and healed, I'm able to hold my hand up. I wanted to make sure I got some rounds in, and not be predictable with the right hand."
Wilder turns 40 in September and still has aspirations to become a champion now that he's also overcome mental health issues. He said he's planning for another fight in September, with South Korea being discussed as a possible location, and a December bout at a location to be determined.
"We're going with the plan that we have," Wilder said. "I definitely need a couple of more tuneups. There is a lot more work to be done so I can really feel satisfied and feel that I have truly returned."
Wilder wants the meaningful matchup in 2026 to be against former two-time unified divisional champion Anthony Joshua (28-4, 25 KOs), a fight more than seven years in the making.
"It could be against Joshua," said Wilder. "If the fight was set up, we'll be ready to go down those roads. A lot of money is on the line, but sometimes it's not about the money because we have to make sure things are right. We're in the hurt business.
"When we’re ready, everyone will know. … We're just going to take it one fight, and one step at a time. But I have returned, just stay patient with me. I'm back, baby. I'm headed right back to the gym once I get home."
Wilder's manager Shelly Finkel said that he's already received calls within hours of the win inquiring on the former WBC titleholder's availability.
"It's not an issue of opponents for us," said Finkel. "If you look around the landscape, there are not many big heavyweight fights that you want to make. There are a few. Deontay can figure into any of them ... We don't want to fight for the sake of a payday. We want to fight, win [titles], and defend it once he wins like he did before. I hope that the things that have derailed him have made him stronger, and now, he's going to show it."

Not a bad showing from Wilder. The win keeps him in the picture and gets him in a winning mindset again.
Clearly Herndon was well short of world class, but he fiddled his way through for a bit and Deontay got some rounds in.
Wilder could still figure in a sizable fight.

I think the AJ fight still sells due to unfinished business.THEBUTCH wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025, 06:02 Not a bad showing from Wilder. The win keeps him in the picture and gets him in a winning mindset again.

Other than that, he's obviously done at championship level. And has lost twice at the level just below.
So, you'd think it would need to be the level below that – Wardely, Torrez, Bakole. But would any of those be willing/able to pay enough for him? Unless Turki wants it I suppose.
I'd imagine he's thinking AJ or nothing.
Re: Deontay Wilder vs. Tyrell Herndon | BLK Prime - 27 June 2025
AJ v Wilder would definitely sell. Maybe not a stadium anymore, but a big arena is still feasible.
Both are probably done at world title level and have fallen below the chasing pack of contenders, but against each other is an entertaining possibility....and the winner gets a lifeline for another big arena night.

Wilder needs to fight AJ. It’s still somehow a big fight once you get through the promotion. And as much as I think AJ would just punch holes in him he would still be a live dog with that whipping right hand.
Are there any other semi meaningfull semi winnable fights out there for him that could extend his career?

There already talking about Dave Allen. That's a winnable fight. It's also a Loseable one, but I'd say Wilder could be the mild favorite there.gregregegg wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025, 19:35 Wilder needs to fight AJ. I don’t think he can afford to gamble the “Dave allen” style step up. It’s too loseable… and gambling an aj fight on a Dave fight is surely not the play.gilgamesh wrote: ↑29 Jun 2025, 19:36There already talking about Dave Allen. That's a winnable fight. Dave Allen would get in too close for Wilder to launch. And after Wilder's last showing, where I uttered "please make it stop" I am not sure he is at Dave's level.

i dont see why wilder would fight anyone remotely threatening until he can cash it out big
at this point, he's well established. a big fight isnt going to depend on him proving himself vs some danger man.
expect opponents like these

Dave Allen ??
Beating an unproven English title level heavyweight is one thing, a damaged goods Wilder is quite another.
Bomb Squad still has serious power and mixed at a level that Allen has never been able to compete at.
Herndon was hell bent on not getting nailed and used all his survival & defensive know how to ensure he didn't up prostrate....Allen's shell tactics against a power puncher like Wilder is doomed to failure.

Those punch stas are insane, is it any wonder Warren and Hearn are falling over themselves to get Wilder over. He's finished.

Yep, you'd think the likes of Chisora, Whyte, Joshua, Okolie, Itauma etc would all want to face him now. Even Hunter, Ajagba, Anderson and Torrez should be looking at him too to boost their name value in the US.Twinkle Toes wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025, 07:19 Those punch stas are insane, is it any wonder Warren and Hearn are falling over themselves to get Wilder over.
