Huni beat this ex-rugby league player in Australia called Paul Gallen who was actually pretty tough, really tough, knocked out Lucas Browne in the first round. it's maybe nothing but it shows Huni can deal with aggressive f*ckers and won't be intimidated. looking forward to the fight :box:

maybe Hrg was too much at this point for Fab

Funny though, Gallen warning Huni 'after the fight, you won't be going to the Olympics' and he was proven right because Huni broke his hand on Gallens head.

The league player with the most skills was Mal Meninga - he looked like Foreman in the ring. :salut:

I don’t think this is a bad opponent, way better than an old knockover job. Hunt looks good from the few times I’ve watched him. What do you guys think?

You can't knock the opponent, however FW knows his onions and must feel Wardley can do a job here.

Huni does have lovely skills but so does the bigger and stronger Frazer Clarke, who Fabio walked through

Huni is considerably better but lacks power.

If he is in shape huni should win rounds if he is not hurt or not gassed in em.

PIERCE O’LEARY, LIAM DILLON TO CONTEST VACANT EUROPEAN JUNIOR-WELTERWEIGHT TITLE ON JUNE 7

Last week, allegedly's Queensberry Promotions had to pivot when Jarrell Miller pulled out of his heavyweight fight with Fabio Wardley and replaced the behemoth American with unbeaten Justis Huni at Portman Road, Ipswich, England, on June 7.

The British promoter is now filling up the undercard which will see Pierce O’Leary and Liam Dillon contest the vacant European junior welterweight title.

The winner must face defend the title against Spain's Jon Fernandez in the first defense of the title.

The prestigious title which has previously been worn by amongst others Junior Witter, who went on to become a world champion, was recently held by rising star Adam Azim, who made one defense before vacating.

Dalton Smith had been tabbed to face Fernandez to fill the vacancy on September 28, 2024, but an injury to Smith saw the fight bumped to December. Fernandez didn't want to wait that long and ultimately, Smith met Walid Ouizza, who he stopped in one-round in Nottingham, England in January. The Brit immediately vacated and is closing in one a world title fight.

O'Leary (16-0, 9 knockouts) has been a professional since 2019. The 25-year-old Dublin-born fighter moved through the ranks before claiming a WBC regional title in 2022.

He has since scored wins over Kane Gardner (UD 10), Hovhannes Martirosyan (KO 9) and Darragh Foley (UD 10).

Dillon (15-2-1, 3 KOs) turned professional in 2017. He went on to win the Southern Area junior lightweight title but was held to a draw by Youssef Khoumari (D 10) for the English title but managed to beat Dennis Wahome (MD 10) for the same belt.

The 29-year-old from London took the unbeaten record of Joshua Oluwaseun Wahab (MD 12) and upset touted Olympian Qais Ashfaq (SD 12) for the British title before losing it to Commonwealth beltholder Reece Bellotti (UD 12) and to Ryan Garner (UD 10) though he has since bounced back with two wins.

Much as I like watching Dillon, he's had most of his major fights two weights divisions below O'Leary, who is due more of a step up.

Its a hard one Huni has good feet , he can box a bit has well , two guys i watched coming up through the ameteurs were Opetai and Huni , i along with many others , so it was'nt rocket science predicted big things for both .

Will admit though i did change my mind on Huni , i just figured the longer he went on he just was'nt developing enough strenght and power , to keep the top boys off him , his skills are there but i just don't see him having enough pop to keep Fab off him and i don't see the cast iron chin he's gonna need .

BUT I HOPE I'M WRONG , I would love to see him do it , go to the top and win all the chocolates

Complete domination by Huni. A mismatch here. They really misjudge how good Wardley is and he will get beaten up badly and stopped here.

Agreed , i was a big fan of Mundine , ESPECIELLY an early Mundine , could'nt believe it when he went up against Ottke , lots laughed when he ended up on his back flat out , but he was just too exhausetd to get up even if he could

Early in that fight Mundine gave a real good account of himself , it really pissed me off when he was critisized , I remember in the gym a lad ( ameteur ) were critisizing him , jumping o the bandwagon , so i asked him . How many fights you had he replied 8 i think it was , and i replied , and yet your still a novice doing 2 min rnds , Shall i boost you up and grab you 3 min rnds on the next show , , do you think you can handle them i asked , he looked sheepish and said not yet .

Then i said well this guy , had 2 ameteur fights , then 12 fights or less , he's fighting a world champ for his title and doing well , fancy your chances ,

Lets not forget how hard it is too win a world title and say what they want OTTKE WAS UNBEATEN , Antony was up there with him competetive after a dozen or so fights , what a great effort

enjoyed watching Mundine beat Green in their first fight. He only agreed to the rematch years later for the $$$. Green needed it for his pride and honestly I think a lot of Australians just wanted to see Mundine lose. talented guy for sure in both sports

FABIO WARDLEY DESCRIBES JUSTIS HUNI AS 'HARDER FIGHT' THAN JARRELL MILLER, REQUIRES 'COMPLETE TRAINING OVERHAUL'

It was late April when Fabio Wardley and his team took to trawling all the rankings they could find as they attempted to secure a suitable replacement for the injured Jarrell Miller.

With Wardley’s dream outing on the pitch at Portman Road on June 7 hanging in the balance, there was no chance of moving the date and much less cancelling it altogether.

Now after agreeing a deal to face fellow undefeated puncher Justis Huni (12-0, 7 KOs), the Ipswich man believes he has not only arranged a harder fight but one with greater rewards than facing Miller, who withdrew with a shoulder problem, ever represented.

Huni, 26, sits higher than Wardley (18-0-1, 17 KOs) with the IBF, WBC and WBO and jumped at the chance to travel to England to fight for the interim WBA world heavyweight title. It was that enthusiasm, Wardley says, that secured him the fight over the other potential replacements.

“Honestly, when we heard the news about Miller, we were just looking through Boxrec, The Ring, the WBA rankings, WBO rankings, WBC rankings - all of them,” Wardley tells The Ring.

“We were just seeing who was in the upper echelons of the rankings and then looking at their current status. So that meant, who has a fight lined up already, who is available, who might be available. Then we could stick a list together and rule people out for a variety of reasons.

“Either they had a fight, they’re not fit, they’re not ready, they don’t want it, they haven’t been training, they’ve just had a fight, contractually they’re not in the right place, this, that, the other. There are 101 reasons why people can or can't fight. We had to rule a bunch of stuff out and then get to a very short list, really. Huni was on there, and we as a team made the final decision on him because I felt like he was probably the best one of the lot.

“He offered the most and to be honest I liked how keen he was. We were speaking to many different teams so you hear the vibe from them. Some umm and ahh about it whereas Huni, credit to him and his team, were very immediate.

“They said send us the contract and I was impressed by that. We didn’t have much time so we needed someone to make the process streamlined and who was not just turning up for the sake of it. He will be here to do a job.”

The late switch of opponent has meant a ‘complete training overhaul’ for Wardley, who had been preparing for the 26-1-2 (22) Miller. Although the 36-year-old Big Baby would likely have provided him the toughest test of his career to date, Wardley did feel he was a reasonably predictable opponent. The same, he believes, can not be said of Huni.

“I think all round it’s a harder fight,” Wardley adds. “And there are way more variables with Huni.

“I knew what type of Jarrell Miller was turning up. There were not too many tricks he was going to pull out the bag. Don’t get me wrong, he is very big, strong and effective but it’s simple to put a game-plan together for. It doesn't make it easy but it makes it simple.

“But with Justis Huni, he offers a variety of different problems to solve and figure out, different ways of going about things, he can turn up in a couple of different fashions. He has looked slightly different from fight-to-fight so we not only need a Plan A, but a B, C and maybe D.

“It means stylistically it’s going to be complete training overhaul in terms of planning, prep and getting ready for an opponent like Huni. I’ve been training and sparring so those boxes are ticked but it’s the technical side, the details, that need changing and they are more difficult and more complicated things to get right.”

Queensberry are expected to bring the two of them together for a press conference at Portman Road, home of Wardley’s beloved Ipswich Town, this month as they start the promotion for a new fight.

Wardley and Miller had clashed at their initial press conference, with the American upset by a ‘diss track’ he had heard which he thought his opponent had cooked up. It turned out be an AI creation which Wardley had never even heard but it did not prevent the brash American from slapping his opponent as they came face-to-face.

Wardley is expecting an altogether quieter afternoon when him and Huni meet for the first time - but he did warn the Australian not to bother wearing a Norwich City jersey after what happened to the other two men who opted to don the colours of Ipswich’s bitter rivals.

“I don’t expect Huni to turn up ranting and raving like Miller did,” Wardley said. “From what I can see he’s pretty respectable, calm and reserved. Who knows, he might turn up with a massive chip on his shoulder.

“If it’s another Norwich shirt, I wouldn’t bother. Two people have done that now and it’s not a good omen. Frazer Clarke got knocked out and now Miller has got injured.”

And what about a Huni diss track? Wardley laughs.

“I’m working on it,” he says. “I need to find out a few more details about him so I’m asking around to get some really personal bits. But it’ll be coming out soon, maybe a collab with Lethal B or something. I’m working on it.”

I agree that Huni is better skilled than Miller.
We will have to see if he is as durable.
I like how this fight will propel Wardley higher up in all the rankings - so it does have benefits if he wins.

Do you think Huni will be a future champion? If you think he's going to completely dominate a KO artist in the top ten i suppose you do.
I've had an eye on him for a couple of years & he looks decent. I think this is a better fight than the fat lump Fabio was fighting before.

I don't like his lack of power. I also don't like that he doesn't move much. But the difference in handspeed here will really be night and day. He will work the body and he is more than willing to have a dust up. It's just a very bad style matchup for Fabio but a lot would be. He's just not that good. He's only got a punchers chance here. It's extremely likely that he gets steamrolled. I am not sure Huni will be champ though. He's got skills but hasn't displayed good movement or good power. He's looked like he could be chinny. He's a live dog against anyone though. I'm very surprised they made this fight.

Bit bummed it isn't Miller still, but maybe that happens for the winner of this.
