Another ex-world champ joins Tszyu-headlined ‘greatest ever card in Aus’ as host city revealed
Tim Tszyu’s blockbuster showdown against Errol Spence Jnr has taken a huge twist — with two more American superstars now officially confirmed for what is suddenly being dubbed “the greatest card in Australian boxing history”.
Fox Sports Australia can reveal an American trio who’ve claimed nine world titles — Spence Jr, Jermall Charlo and Stephen Fulton Jr — will all compete on the card which is set to take place inside Sydney’s Afterpay Arena (currently called Qudos Bank Arena) on Sunday, July 26.
In the main event, Tszyu looks to continue his push back to becoming a two-time world champion by taking on a fella who, dubbed ‘The Truth’, is widely considered one of the greatest fighters of the modern era.
Then in what is an undeniably stacked undercard, Charlo puts his own undefeated record on the line against Australia’s Koen Mazoudier, while Fulton will throw down against popular Queenslander Liam Wilson.
Combined, the American trio of Spence, Charlo and Fulton have lost only three times in 85 fights.
And even, those losses have come against huge names in Terence Crawford, Naoya Inoue and O’Shaquie Foster.
Elsewhere, there have also been whispers of a further addition to what is already a huge “Australia versus American” event, with hyped Aussie prospect Callum ‘50 Cal’ Peters being rumoured for a shot at Michigan middleweight Joseph Hicks.
That has not been confirmed however.
Speaking on Thursday afternoon, No Limit promoter George Rose said the impending Tszyu-Spence showcase is set to be the biggest event ever domestically – despite no belts being contested.
Historically, Australia’s most watched event ever is the 2006 blockbuster between Anthony Mundine and Danny Green, while the most important showdown would have to be the 1908 heavyweight title fight between Jack Johnson and Tommy Burns at the old Sydney Stadium.
Regardless, Rose says his impending July bout will be “the greatest”.
“Make no mistake, this is the greatest fight card ever assembled in Australian boxing history,” the No Limit chief executive stressed.
“Errol Spence Jr, Jermall Charlo and Stephen Fulton all on the same card, in the same city, on the same day … that’s a Las Vegas headliner every single day of the week, and we’ve locked it in for Sydney.
“This is Australia versus the USA, three times over.
“And every single one of the fights is legacy-defining.
“We’ve built No Limit Boxing by delivering the best events on the biggest stages. And on July 26 we deliver the biggest stage this country has ever seen.
“The world is sending its biggest names to Tim Tszyu’s backyard, to Koen Mazoudier’s backyard, to Liam Wilson’s backyard — and they’re about to find out exactly what that means.”
Tszyu also heaped praise on the Sydney card, which is set to be formally announced at a press conference on Friday.
“It’s an honour to headline the greatest fight card ever assembled in Australia,” he said on Thursday afternoon.
“It’s an enormous privilege for me because I know how rare this is, for fight fans to have a card of this magnitude on home soil.
“Every time I step into that ring, I’m not just fighting for myself — I’m fighting for Australia and for everyone who’s ever believed in me.
“Errol Spence Jr. is a legend of this sport, one of the greatest to ever do it, but on July 26 I get to take him out once and for all. Moments like this are history making.
“They are rare, you don’t want to miss it.”
The surprise chance to face Charlo represents something of a Rocky opportunity for Mazoudier, who has won three straight since his 2024 Fight of the Year contender against Nikita Tszyu.
“I know I’m the underdog, everyone knows I’m the underdog,” Mazoudier said. “But I don’t care.
“I’m coming to spoil the party and dethrone a legend.
“I’ve never taken a backward step in my life, and I’m sure as hell not starting now. I’m going to bring everything I’ve got to get the result … I’m going to shock the world.”
While Charlo’s presence on the card was first confirmed by Fox Sports Australia last month, the surprise inclusion of Fulton is new.
A two-division world champion from Philadelphia, ‘Cool Boy’ has previously held the WBC and WBO super bantamweight crowns, before then adding WBC featherweight gold.
His only two professional defeats have come against Inoue, regarded by many as the greatest fighter on the planet, and Foster -- who beat Fulton on points in December 2025.
Elsewhere, Charlo also makes his return for the first time in a year.
Apart from sharing the same trainer as Spence – famed US coach Ronnie Shields – Charlo is also the twin brother of that former world champion who also shares a long history with Tszyu, Jermell Charlo.
Famously, Tszyu was twice meant to face Charlo back in 2023, only for ‘Iron Man’ to, first, fracture his left hand in two places and withdraw before then opting out of a showdown against the Aussie to instead challenge Crawford.
